    Great performance.

The smaller venue made the event seem more personal; enjoyed the performance, and sound was great.

Truly great performance of Handel's Messiah

by Anonymous on 12/10/13Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

My wife and I have been enjoying live performances of Handel's Messiah for almost 40 years. This may have been the best performance of all! The vocal and instrumental virtuosity, coupled with a highly creative interpretation breathed new life into this familiar oratorio. The conductor, who also played harpsichord, provided liberal freedom of expression to the soloists, resulting in thrilling performances. The choral sections were also very creatively interpreted. The best example of this was the contrast in vocal intensity and clarity demonstrated in the two sections of the #46 Chorus "Since by Man Came Death". Having the choral singers muffle their voices with their musical scores for the Grave portion, and then belt out the Allegro section unencumbererd was a stroke of conducting genius. Also, the This great performance by the BSO really set the tone for our entire Christmas season. Thank you!

Very good concert. The written program was also very useful, including all the words to the music.

    Messiah experience amazing

by altochorusmember on 5/7/13E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

I got to sing in the performance, and my husband was able to enjoy hearing it. The dedication and intensity of all performers made it worth the effort. Conductor, Dr. Frank Jacobs, moved us swiftly, with never a dull moment. His special efforts to ensure that text and overall message were both clear and musical made it an emotional, spiritual, and musical experience.

    Was worth the drive!

by Ridgca on 5/7/13E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

We drove 500 miles and it was worth it to hear a rare performance of the complete Messiah. All aspects were near if not perfect. The soloists were in character, the orchestra was balanced and well skilled for the task and the Choir truly sang as one voice as the choir sections were not segregated but mixed. The results of the efforts of the many talented participants under the creative leadership of Dr. Jacobs should make all in the Akron area proud to have the Summit Choral Society as part of their community. Bravo again!

    Great Performance at Great Facility

by Rm1032004 on 12/17/12Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

This is a great Christmas tradition for those who love classical music. Each soloist put their unique spin on each piece which was just amazing. Do not bring children (or drag them) to this performance who do not like this kind of music. I heard one father ask his teen son if he was staying awake. This performance is for lovers of classical music. Clowes Hall is also amazing. I sat in the 2nd terrace and could hear the slightest sound from the stage. It was fantastic.

    Messiah - Another stellar performance!

by Luvsmuzk on 12/19/11Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

The December 17th performance of Handel's Messiah presented by the ISO and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir was phenominal. This was the absolute favorite performance in the 8 years we have been atteninding this specific performance. The guest conducter was superb; especially appreciated the flow of the program. It was also an improvement in the program that a greater emphasis be on the choir versus the guest soloist. The majority of us come to see the symyphony and the choir so in past years when the soloist were the primaries with the choir being secondary it was disappointing. These combined performances of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the ISO never fail to be absolutely superb.

Hard to hear parts of Messiah

by LuvOpera on 12/19/11Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

The ISO always does a beautiful job on the Messiah. My only complaint is that I couldn't hear the bass baritone very well. I wasn't that far back. I wonder if they needed to put a zone mic for him? I was once again ensorcelled by the music and voices. Thank you.

The perfect event in Advent Season

by Spencer12345 on 12/28/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

This is was a beautiful performance and I would highly recommend it. The only reason I gave it a 4 of 5 stars is because the sound seemed a little soft. We were in the 2nd tier, but in some spots, I found it hard to hear.

    Bringing in the Christmas spirit

by twinge on 12/21/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

Definitely one of the best ways to start the christmas season. Was hoping for a more Romantic version of the overture but the Baroque version was lively. A great way to remember that christmas is nothing without christ

    A MUST Christmas Tradition

by Barb7983 on 12/21/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

Wow! Handel's Messiah is a must-experience Christmas tradition. The ISO and choir was perfect and the soloists performed their arias and oratorios with each not trying to outshine the other. At one point the microphones picked up the trumpet section to a point where it drowned out the strings, but that minor problem was soon corrected. I would have preferred to have the musicians on risers as well so I could see them better from the floor. But experiencing Handel's Messiah live is always a treat and something I hadn't done for several years.

    Amazing

by TKC2010 on 12/21/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

Handel's Messiah by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra gave us goose bumps. It was amazing. We've decided Handel's Messiah would become a new annual holiday tradition for our family. Two of the the soloist needed a microphone -- hard to hear them during some of their performance.

    Simply Marvelous

by consumer1 on 12/21/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

The ISO once again did not fail to show what it is made of. The display of talent in vocals and instrument were spectacular. Handel would find himself proud if he could only hear his peice performed as it was on Saturday. I took someone as a Chrismas present to her and she was very pleased.
