  • So So

by TheJDman on 12/28/16New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

Music was great. Hard to understand the words. Not sure if it was the sound system or them not holding notes. Depressing at end when someone on stage collapsed.

by ArturoE on 12/21/16New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The NJ Symphony Orchestra, Montclair State University's Choir, and all the soloists did an amazing performance of Handel's Messiah! We were so uplifted! What a great way to celebrate the Christmas season.

  • Good Job in a Dead Auditorium

by Kleiberfan on 12/9/15Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 4 out of 5

The combined chorus and chamber ensemble did a fine job under the conductor. They were precise and involved. One complaint, which I always have concerning the Saenger: the acoustics are not good at all, in my opinion. The sound from the stage goes out about thirty feet and then drops dead. No reverberation at all, even with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra performances. Too bad, because the musicians and singers are fine. I don't know what is to be done; acoustical panels and so forth don't enhance the sound quality much.

  • Choral Society rocks with Messiah

by RickArm on 12/8/15Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

By the time the Hallelujah Chorus came around, the audience was chomping at the bit to stand up in unison and sing along with the Choral Society of Pensacola. It brought chills up my spine!

  • A Real Disappointment

by MaryThompson on 12/8/15Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 1 out of 5

I bought the tickets a couple of months ago with the expectation that the show would enhance the Holiday Season. The "spirit" of the Holidays is the most important thing to me. I thought this show was terrible. The orchestra was fine, as well as the choir but the solo artist left a lot to be desired. There was NOTHING visually to help get in the Holiday Spirit. You would think that the stage or theater would have at least had a poinsettia or two. No. Nothing. Zilch. I'm going to give away the tickets I bought for the Christmas Story because this event depressed rather than uplifted my guest and I.

  • Soul stirring!

    by Dado6 on 12/8/15Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

Magnificent performance by the PSO, the Choral Society, and especially the soloists of this miraculous piece by GF Handel. Anyone who appreciates the true Messiah personally will be overwhelmed by the excellence of this timeless work. I was moved to tears several times during this performance.

  • Better than I would have expected for a college

  • Amazing performance

by deboperalover on 12/10/14FAU - University Theatre - Boca RatonRating: 5 out of 5

Once again, FAU chamber orchestra and choir gave a remarkable performance. The orchestra didn't overpower the choir but set the right tone and the choir was amazing. Everyone in my group loved this performance.

  • Such a blessing to have participated

by donsryche on 12/2/14Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

I haven't sung in the Messiah since college. It was so neat to participate with so many other likeminded people. Everyone there was so much fun. The orchestra and soloists were good and the conductor was great and easy to follow.

  • Bucketlist item... completed.

by Artster on 12/2/14Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

The sing-a-long was great. My first time participating and it was a little different than I expected. I wished I had read the score beforehand. It was very quick to follow in the songbook I rented. After the first couple of chorus parts, I quickly slipped into my comfort zone and enjoyed the rest of the performance. An incredible feeling for someone who is not in a choir group, to sing with a couple hundred others in unison. It was great and my friend enjoyed herself as well. I've already purchased my own score and will be looking forward to next year's concert.

  • My second and last time

by JeffinFishers on 12/28/13Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 1 out of 5

This is my second time to this show so I knew what to expect, but for over $100 for two tickets I would expect something with a little more attention to detail. Other than a few lit Christmas tree's on the side of the stage their was nothing in the way of decorating. The stage and backdrop was plain and boring with no decorating whatsoever. Also understand that if you go to this show it's a very somber event. I had just gone to Yuletide where the production was spectacular and this show is the opposite of that. I'm sure most of the people there loved it and know what type of show it is so I'm just warning all of you who have no idea what it's like, don't expect an entertaining event. In fact the lady next to me slept through 85% of the performance. It's a real snoozer so just research before you go and understand what type of performance it is. Some may love it, but I won't be going again.
