Flawless.... a masterful performance. Effortless Beauty.
The entire performance was 5-star! AWESOME work by the soloists, choir and orchestra. The conductor was at his zenith during the performance. What a wonderful way to spend an evening!
Indianapolis is fortunate to have a world-class symphony. They were superb, as usual. "Messiah" was a wonderful performance by the ISO and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. It's hard to believe the Choir is made up of volunteers.
We're absolutely delighted to have discovered UCLA's orchestra and chorale. We'll be attending every performance they give from now on. We found their rendition of Handel's Messiah to be gorgeous, enthralling, inspiring, and completely satisfying. Loved it!
Over-all performance excellent.Orchestra & choruses performed at a high caliber. Soloists were outstanding. The first half was good but the second half really sparkled. A must see in future!
It was a packed audience. My only concern would be for the elderly, as it is a long walk from the parking lot. Also, assigned seating would be appreciated when you are on a tight schedule and wish to sit together. The student director was great, the soloists were marvelous and the combined choirs were stupendous. The orchestra and Conductor were very professional and superb.
Absolutely fantastic. All the stress of the week fell off. The music was performed well and was comparable to other renditions which I have heard performed by very prestigious groups in the past. Now I and my family want to attend more concerts at UCLA.
Several hundred UCLA students on the stage of Royce Hall showed us all why Handel's Messiah has endured as a perennial classic for over 250 years. The UCLA Philharmonia and several choral groups brought the majestic sounds of the Messiah to life to an almost full house. It was an inspiring performance.
Woderful. Salantien is a great conducter. Strong performance
It was wonderful, the venue was great, however it is disappointing such large symphonic events aren't associated with The Majestic.
I have loved this music since I sang it with my high school choir in 1957. It has been a Christmas tradition for me to "hear" the Messiah somewhere ever since. At Christmas in Vietnam in 1967 I played a tape my mother sent me so many times it just gave up. This performance was outstanding. It was most likely the best performance of Handel's Messiah I have ever had the opportunity to attend.
As someone who attends the Messiah every year, I must say this year's performance at University Methodist Church was ruined by applause. Handel's Messiah is supposed to be presented with NO APPLAUSE until the audience rises for the Hallelujah Chorus and then at the end of the performance. This audience applauded after EVERY solo, after EVERY presentation by the Mastersingers. This completely disrupted the timing of the orchestra, the soloists, and the choir. I don't know why it wasn't noted in the program or announced before the performance ((for those who apparently did not know ) that the audience should hold their applause until the appropriate time! At the very least, an announcement should have been made at Intermission, so as not to disrupt the entire performance.
The sheer number of well trained, beautiful voices in the two choirs that performed with the San Antonio symphony made this a majestic performance. The symphony was spot on and members clearly enjoying the vocalists. The tenor was spectacular, the bass was also quite good--loved his last aria. I enjoyed watching the tenor listening and appearing to enjoy the music--even though I'm sure he's heard it many times! I'm afraid the mezzo soprano was not up to the task, sounded muddy in lots of passages although she had a nice clear, strong high notes. The soprano was technically good, although I'm not of fan of her particular voice.
I'm already looking forward to next year's performance.
Messiah 2009 was one of the best I've heard. Amazing Tenor and Soprano soloists, and as usual, the symphony and chorus were awesome.
