    Went in Blind, Amazing Show

by Love It!!! on 12/5/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Went in Blind, Amazing Show. Had no idea what this was but friends kept telling me I had to see it. From the very first song I knew I was in for a show. Probably going to go watch it again.

    Show was life changing!!!

by BR on 12/5/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Only complaint is I wish no cell phone/video/photos during the show was enforced better. Girl in front of me pulled her phone out during the show to video and it was distracting and annoying.

    Better than we expected

by Mimi on 12/4/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Hubby and I have seen the play on Disney more than twenty five times because we loved it. When I learned it was playing in Chicago, I decided to get tickets for our anniversary celebration but didn’t have high expectations for it to be as good as the Disney version we were used to seeing with the Lin Manuel cast. We absolutely loved the performance. I laughed, cheered and cried.

    Great Play-Bad Souvenir Help

by pffffffffffft on 12/3/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Play was outstanding. Help at the souvenir stand acted like they didn't want to be there. I made my purchase and seemed to be bothering the help.

What else can be told about Hamilton. The story is a new way to tell us what history keeps under the rug. It's a most to see and share.

    Hamilton

by Rich on 12/2/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Seeing the play a second time and very up close was fantastic. The actors made the characters their own. It was a magical moving experience. I could see it a third time and still get more out of it.

Great show well executed, not the strongest singing

by Cyclone Traveler on 11/30/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Everyone knows about Hamilton and most people seem to love it. It's a phenomenon, a zeitgeist, a bit of a masterpiece, and an incredible telling of a fantastically interesting bit of American history. The music bops, the melodies hook you in, the staging is efficient and fascinating, and the blocking and choreography are great but ultimately play second or even third fiddle to the tunes and the story. The version at the Chicago theater had a compelling cast of actors/rappers, but unfortunately, the music (at least the singing - the pit was great) was the weakest part of the whole show. The rapping was great and the Schuyler sisters stole the show, but each of the leading men and some of the ancillary women could use some brushing up with vocal coaches. Missed notes and poor intonation, poorly or inappropriately dramatized and stylistically inappropriate interpretations took one out of the show and tossed a wet sponge at otherwise emotional highlights of the show. The actors were all perfectly capable, but some of the casting choices were questionable and even unfortunate, as some people's voices and interpretations lent themselves to comical interpretations not befitting certain characters. The content of the show and the acting, as well as the rapping, carried the show, however. It was still satisfactory in most regards. Would recommend.

    Missing passion

by pat on 11/29/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Burn by Eliza was beautiful but missed the hurt. Emotions just missing. George Washington sorry cannot carry those big songs. Music was great. Everyone else was great. The venue...they scream at you as you walk in the door confusing the hell out of people on where to go. Had to use the rest room after and my daughter had to refuse to leave because she was waiting for me. They came up to her 3 times standing at the top of stairs telling her everyone had to leave. 20 people were in line in the restroom.

    A different show from before

by Carmen Foster on 11/29/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Hamilton is a great show! The stage is beautiful, the performers are amazing, the orchestra performs wonderfully, and the singing is spot on. I had seen Hamilton in 2019 when it was touring on Broadway in the US. So loved the performance! This time I found it more sexually oriented in the performance numbers and singing. A bit of a turn off. Plus more F-bombs and off-comments are in this production than in before. The music also changed a bit where in some of the in-between numbers have a scratchy record sound that is exaggerated so much that it reminds me of nails scratching on a chalkboard. I would like to see the original performance.
