Hadestown On Tour

COME SEE HOW THE WORLD COULD BE.

Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new show by celebrated singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today... and always.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell's beguiling melodies and Chavkin's poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, Hadestownis a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.

    It was solid

by MusicalsRfun on 10/1/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Our performers were obviously talented, but I had a hard time really getting into it through the first act. Hades was by far the funnest character along with the narrator, Persephone, and the muses- but Eurydice and Orpheus felt a little lackluster (don’t think these were the actors, just the characters in general). Once we hit wait for me, I gave the first applause of the night, and the second half of the play was wayyyy better than the first. Overall I think the play was solid and I don’t regret seeing it, but something just felt like it was missing from the storyline to make it more compelling.

Did not enjoy the show, left at intermission

by Ann on 9/30/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

We had fantastic seats, and were looking forward to the show---6 row center, but felt assaulted by the music. It was blasted way too high, we could not understand the lyrics and as such could not follow the narrative of the musical. My husband had a feeling when he saw so many songs, and there was not a review of the play in the program. The basso profundo was a rare treat. Choreography was mediocre and most of the performers, with the exception of the male lead who was the love interest of the female lead, were phoning in their performance. Such a disappointment.

    Hell isn’t THAT bad.

This is my second time seeing the tour! Band, vocals, staging, etc. were phenomenal. I’ll see it every time it comes to the Bay Area.

    Thank you

by Kesa on 9/30/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

This was my first return to theatre in several years since the pandemic began. I’ve wanted to see this show since it won the Tony and I’ve been eagerly following it. What a joy to be in community with artists in the sanctuary of the theatre again. Thank you for bringing this show to us. The cast was outstanding—especially Hermes, and Persephone and the prowess of the Fates. Such artistry. Just thank you.

    An entertaining evening

by mrla on 9/29/23San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Hermes high nasal voice was often difficult to understand I would have liked a set change after intermission - perhaps ambitious for a touring company. Musical accompaniment was outstanding Very fun night at the theater

My favorite Broadway musical of all-time

by Dave on 9/28/23SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

This production never disappoints. It was my third time seeing it. My only disappointment was the part of Hermes in the Sacramento version. The guy sang through his nose and we couldn't understand a word he was singing. Other than that, it was great!

Great show except for the sound system.

    by MusicalFan on 8/30/23

We enjoyed the acting, singing, orchestra and set design. We couldn't understand the majority of the lyrics in Hermes' songs and we had some difficulty making out the words in Persephone's pieces too. All the other actors could be heard clearly. Something in the sound system needs to be adjusted.

    HADESTOWNTASTIC!

by Chantal, Kassandre & Michel on 8/30/23

We drove 2 hours to see this show. While we would have loved to see it in Montreal, we were happy to see it in Ottawa. We've been listening to the original Broadway cast album for years and this cast was just as impressive. We really appreciated the mise en scène and shed many tears. Please come to Montreal so we can see it again from the front row!!

Good experience, could use a couple of tweaks

    by MV on 8/30/23

We secured excellent tickets [in the first five rows] for a Sunday matinee performance, and travelled from Montreal to Ottawa for it. In terms of the venue, it was easy to find, with ample parking. A slight downside was the absence of parking information on the NAC website, but fortunately I was able to obtain that information when I received my reminder call several days before the show. I also spoke to an NAC representative at that time, who kindly let me know about the road closures due to the Pride parade that day. In terms of the show itself, it was a terrific performance from a seasoned professional cast and talented musicians. Two small technical issues were rather muddy sound quality, particularly in the miking of the Hermes character, as well as the use of dry ice/fog on stage throughout the show. The latter completely overwhelmed us in our seats at certain points of the performance. It would’ve been good to know in advance about this aspect, so we could take appropriate precautions. Overall, this was a great experience that would’ve been even better with a few minor adjustments.

    Hadestown - Improvements of Venue

    by KDEK on 8/30/23

I was impressed by the actors ... they were amazing. Perhaps they were too powerful for the AV at the Ottawa NAC ... Hermes was very hard to understand as his voice boomed through the audience and was perhaps was distorted by the treble of the speakers. It was an enjoyable performance though ... powerful powerful message.

    Incredible

    by Scarlett on 8/30/23

Went with my grandmother, this is the second time I've seen the show. I loved every performance. "Wait for me"just before the intermission gave me chills, and so did Eurydice's "Flowers."We had a Eurydice understudy and she was phenomenal. And Hades had such a rich voice. The whole cast was wonderful. One thing is that my grandmother couldn't understand what Hermes was singing in the first number, seemingly due to the sound being really loud so she couldn't make out the words. Only during the first number though, afterwards it was great. First number is just introductions anyway. I loved this performance, would go again if given the chance.

    Mythologie grecque revisitée

    by Catalina on 8/30/23

The show was amazing !!! Great interpreters, powerful lyrics, amazing settings !!! and wonderful musicians who even offered an extra little tune once the musical was over. A big chunk of the audience left while they were playing, and that was really disgraceful.

    Good show

    by valmo on 8/26/23

The first half was not superb or terribly interesting. The second half was quite good. One of the biggest issues is the acoustics at NAC. This is the second Broadway I've seen lately and when the singers hit the powerful notes, the sound is distorted and almost painful to listen to. It's a shame really because it distracts from the show. I was tempted to leave at intermission, but my husband wanted to see what happened next so we stayed. We were glad we did. Good acting. Great dancing. Singers were good, just the sound....not good at all. And to think NAC renovated not that long ago.

    Fantastic show with wonderful music!

    by PapaDubs on 7/3/23

We didn't really know the story of Orpheus and Eurydice so were entranced as the story unfolded. All of the actors' voices were wonderful and Hades baritone was stunning. We loved seeing the musicians on the stage and even embedded in some of the plot. If you haven't seen this musical, you must.

Seriously so good. The lighting, the performances, everything. The actors who came out the stage door after were so so so nice. Shoutout to the trombone player, absolutely FANTASTIC performer.
