    Guys and Dolls simply wonderful

by jschijns on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Attending a revival you are never sure if the play will be true to form, an improvement, or a decline in the original. This play was clearly an improvement while still staying true to form. The acting was excellent and the cast was clearly excited about their roles and loved the storyline. The theater has very small very steep seating in mezzanine would be my only "warning" so if you are tall or robust you may not be very comfortable.

    What a Delightful Surprise!

by stelladorable on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

We actually went to NYC to see West Side Story and had some available time so we got tickets to Guys and Dolls. Seem the movie a thousand times, and knew that it would be enjoyable, but who knew it would be this terrific! Loved the actress who played Adelade (the Playbill said it was her first Broadway show) and who knew Oliver Platt could be so charasmatic and fun as the schemer Nathan Detroit. Loved the actor who played Sky Materson too. In the end, I enjoyed Guys & Dolls MORE than West Side Story. This show should be a definite for those who enjoy Broadway musicals.

    For Lauren & Oliver

by cmeg on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

I hesitated when asked to say whether or not I would recommend this event to a friend, because it would depend on the friend: if he or she was a huge of Lauren Graham (like me) or Oliver Platt, then I would say yes! Definitely go see it!! But if, say, Graham had been out on the night I went, I would certainly not have enjoyed the show as much. She was so great, though. The songs and dances were fun and the costumes great, but ultimately, without the allure of star power, it was weak. The jokes fell flat, and the set design was a bit tacky. Fun stuff, but not something I'd usually pay Broadway admission for.

    A great story and execution!

by LouMar on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

We loved the singing, dancing and the plot it supported! The stage was decorated perfectly to fit the scene, and the actors "sold" their parts terrifically - highly recommended!

Old Fashioned Fun with Guys and Dolls

by violethawk on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Even though the NYTimes review made my heart sink, I bought tickets for Guys and Dolls anyways, wanting to give this musical a chance. I'm not even living in NYC anymore, so this was a serious choice for a short weekend trip. I was not disappointed! The talent, along with the sterling original music, are solid. It's true; the chemistry between gambler Sky Masterson and our Salvation Army heroine didn't blow me away, but it honestly didn't matter - the entire experience was just so enjoyable. The dancing is fabulous, especially in the Havana scenes. Oliver Platt sung "Sue Me" in such a touching, heartfelt way, and I'm glad I didn't miss Mary Testa in "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat." It's too bad the musical's not continuing its run on Broadway, but I'm very happy I gave this a chance. Let's hope it returns sometime!

    Great Production

by Duvid on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

A great time. The music, dancing and singing were top notch. The production values were as good as any I've ever seen on Broadway. I highly recommend this show. It's a guaranteed great night out.

    Guys and Dolls was terrific!

by katb on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Thoroughly enjoyable. Wonderful performances by Graham and Grant and also Beirko and Platt. However, Mary Testa stole the show in her main scene. Great fun. I Highly recommend it.

by mirla on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Normally I am not that fond of musicals but wanted to see G&D for old times sake. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, the setup was fantastic, I loved the scenery and the creative ways the scenery was thought out.. The acting was great and very clear. I have recommended the play to a few friends who enjoyed it as much as myself

    Lauren Graham was the best!

by lgfan on 7/12/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

If you have enjoyed Lauren Graham in the TV Series Gilmore Girls, you have to see her in Guys and Dolls. We flew to NY from IN just to see her in Guys and Dolls and were not disappointed. She steals the show!

    "Guys and Dolls" was disappointing

by UpNorth on 7/11/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

I didn't believe that this wonderful musical could be spoiled but I really regret to say that I thought this production came close. Oliver Platt seemed badly miscast and there was no chemistry between either Nathan and Adelaide or Sky and Sarah. Too bad because they are all very talented performers. I really liked the flashy settings very much but thought that some of the directing was over the top.....especially in the great "Sit Down you're Rocking The Boat" number....It just doesn't need all the constant moving around the stage. I never saw the movie but have enjoyed a number of other stage productions of this great show. This was not one of them.

    Depressed with Detroit

by BEARSFRIEND on 7/11/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

A sad revivial of a great play. I wanted to love the show, but the interpertation of the Nathan Detroit charcter was an extreme diaspointment. The actor seemed to want to say his lines quickly so that he would not forget them. Nathan Lane was brilliant, Oliver P was very very weak.

Guys and Dolls has great energy

by MrPortland on 7/11/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Having even seen the original this cast brought the wonderful spirit and creative energy to this production. Updated dance numbers were well coceived and fit well. Show was well cast though I couldn't ever forget Stubby Kaye as Nicely Nicely Johnson. Good Broadway entertainment !!

    G&D was mediocre.

by Angig120 on 7/11/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

Although each individual was good at their character, the chemistry was seriously lacking. It made if far less believable. I ended up watching the monitors with the conductor rather than the show a couple of times.

guys and dolls- a must see!!

by stef on 7/11/09Nederlander Theatre - New York

I've seen the musical Guys & Dolls twice and want to go see it again. I've been to many Broadway performances and thought Guys & Dolls was one of the best musicals i have seen. I have already recommended it to many friends. I absolutly adore Lauren Graham and am so thrilled that she is making her Broadway debut in this play. She plays Adelaid amazingly well. The other lead actress Kate Jennings Brown is talented as well. The dancing is wonderful and the songs are great. I enjoyed the songs Adelaids Lament and Marry the Man Today. This show is a must see!!! Get your tickets now!
