    Forget it!

    by Reviewer05 on 7/15/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The Piano Concerto sounded like they all needed more practice. The pianist, conductor, and orchestra were out of synchronization. Lang tried to improvise but it sounded like someone pulling teeth. On the next performance, the 1st violinist also struggled throughout the piece. The orchestra had no flares, no fire in the performance. They sounded flat, and whimsical. The wind section was fair, the brass was good, the string section was good, the 1st cello was also good. But in total, this orchestra needs some tweaking if they want to compete with the Pacific, San Francisco, and the LA Chamber Orchestra for best California Orchestras. I wont view this orchestra and pianist no more, until they step up their performances. I suggest to not try to improve the works with strange indications on the score. Keep it simple and Honest; and the music will come out all right.

    Amazing!

by LizEtri on 7/15/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Two superstars on stage! One thing about the crowd.... I know the car situation is horrible but if you plan on leaving before the last 5 notes, please clap on yur way out. They do practice 27 hour a day to bring this music to live. I know you mean well, but showing greater appreciation would be more appreciated. What if we all left 3 minutes after the show ? :) Pop/rock concerts have more devoted fans. Dudamel top of my list is a magician and Lang Lang a beast of its own.

    Spectacular performance

by YourGrandmother on 7/15/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Dudamel was in great form, and Lang Lang is unforgettable--he made an incredibly difficult Tchaikovsky piece seem fluid and effortless.

    LA Phil at its best

by Russiamusik on 7/15/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Lang Lang delivered a amazing performance in his fashion: dusting off the highly classical Tchaikovsky piano concerto. It certainly takes someone with a different culture and background to play it with such "Tom & Jerry" approach! What a performance for an ensemble like the LAPhil to follow and adjust to his vision! ps. I fund the sound of the orchestra a bit weird at times during the concerto (sound settings?) Everything was back to perfection with the Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade. Incredible work in the details and use of each instrument timbre, magnificent orchestral interpretation! Very impressed with Mr. Dudamel's work!

Dudamel, Lang lang and the orchestra was amazing. The 2nd music wasn't familiar to me so I enjoyed it less.

    Wonderful!

by Goldies on 7/15/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The evening was most enjoyable. Lang Lang did a wonderful job playing the Tchaikovsky piano concerto and of course the LA Phil was terrific as usual. The second half, with the orchestra playing Scheherazade, was a total pleasure. It just transported the listener into the story.

Wow.....what a spectacular afternoon at Walt Disney Concert Hall! Truly the most beautiful venue for music performance. It doesn't get any better than Dudamel conducting Rite of Spring! He and the LA Phil were electrifying!!

Rite of Sprint is an experience

Seats up close with a large orchestra is unbelievable. No amplification and the sound and the fury surrounds you.

    A night to remember

by Anonymous on 7/31/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Mendelssohn has been always one of my favorite composers, and on this evening Dudamel was a conductor, so it all sounded even better. There was only a temporary little glitch at the beginning of the violin concerto when the violin's decibel level was too low. Otherwise, this was a truly enchanting midsummer night, amplified by the classy visual effects.

    Sublime!

by bluecurls on 7/28/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The program was excellent! The Carmina Burana and the modern music of Whitacre were performed flawlessly by the L.A. Phil, the L.A. Master Chorale and the Children's chorus. Dudamel was more than just a conductor beating out the measures: he was like a director bringing out the most profound emotional and spiritual expression from his musicians. I was moved and transfixed as were my companions.

Live Concerts Are Always Fun. Even Classical Ones!

by Idunn on 7/25/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Dudamel was his usual electric self. It was too funny to see him get embarrassed when he heard a few cat calls from the audience. Some people love them some Dudamel! That's why the Bowl is always fun. Don't get me wrong, the Walt Disney Concert Hall can also be a thrilling experience, but the Bowl is way more relaxed. And nobody got cheated as O Fortuna was performed twice. Good stuff!

    Carmina Burana at the Bowl

by YMSD on 7/24/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This concert was really good! So glad we went!!! The fisrt 2 pieces were really cool and a nice compliment to the main piece "Carmina Burana." We loved Equus, especially. Dudamel was fantastic at the baton; his energy and musicality palpable even from the back of the audience. The LA Phil played cleanly, powerfully and in tune... Such a great orchestra! The soloists were good, as well... Our favorite was the baritone: he was fabulous :) The LA Master Chorale did sound good, however the choir was a bit smaller than expected and in certain moments, lacked the powerful sound traditionally expected for the CB. In the "piano" sections, the sound they produced as an ensemble was beautiful, though. And the Children's Choir was good, too. They were accurate and sang well in tune; a delicate, pretty sound... just what's needed for this piece

    Nothing compares

by sandramendi on 7/24/15Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

When i moved to LA, people keep talking about two unique experiences i need to have in town....one, The Hollywood Bowl and the next, a show with the wonderful Dudamel. I made it!! i really made it! i had a great show with Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl. He is magnificent and super talented, beside handsome, and the venue has no comparison with great acoustic under a see of stars. Got more tickets to see more Dudamel under the stars... My birthday gift, this upcoming saturday, and this time with Fireworks.
