Aida at the Hollywood Bowl was super!

by gdayinla on 8/14/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Dudamel is amazing - casual black top, while the Phil was in white jackets. Fun for everyone. The soloists were excellent, the choir was huge and sounded big, and the Grand March was a triumph!

    Awesome Aida

    by Azdave56 on 8/14/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

First time to the Hollywood Bowl. What a great venue! Gorgeous, famous, historic site. Just a lot of fun in a relaxed atmosphere where people can bring either simple or elaborate picnics, wine, etc., in a setting where you're surrounded by lovely hills as the sun goes down. You can even glimpse the Hollywood sign off in the distance. The performance of Aida that we saw included the LA Philharmonic, with the rockstar conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and some world-class soloists. At the very beginning I was a bit concerned about the acoustics--I was having some trouble hearing, but that got adjusted very quickly. The four big screens on either side of the stage helped bring the singers and the musicians up close and personal. If you're not an opera buff, seeing a performance of an "approachable" opera like Aida in that venue is a great introduction. We took a very efficient and inexpensive shuttle bus to and from Pasadena because parking at the Hollywood Bowl is a nightmare. We were back to our car 20 minutes after we boarded the bus. Couldn't have gone better.

    Dudamel was full of thrills!

by amantedellamusica on 8/14/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was my first time going to the Hollywood Bowl for an event like this and it was AMAZING! Even if you're not an opera enthusiast, you would enjoy Dudamel and the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl. The environment was superb. The audience at some points were entertaining themselves especially after a few glasses of wine. It's definitely a lot of fun to attend the HB for a concert of this caliber. I've been to rock concerts before but I was never able to appreciate the venue or the green scenary that sorrounds it.

    Aida was unforgettable

by EricAtz on 8/14/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Funny enough - this was my first Aida. I"ve heard so much about it and finally had the opportunity to enjoy it. And I did - enjoy it. The music was un-real. Dudamel really put it "all out" and the music touched me. The singers were great and all in all - a memorable night !!! THANK YOU

    Customs

by Anonymous on 8/14/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Enjoyed the evening. One improvement is suggested. Put the lead singers into customs. Aida should be dressed like a slave, we have a king, we have a general. Putting them into appropriate customs would have added to the atmosphere.
