About

Gregory Porter on Tour

With his rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deepest traditions of soul, jazz and gospel, Gregory Porter has established himself as one of America's most versatile and acclaimed vocalists. His artistry and sensitivity is plain to the ear whether he's putting his stamp on beloved standards by heroes like Nat "King" Cole or demonstrating his own writing talents with original songs strong enough to stand with the many classics in his repertoire.

Produced by Troy Miller (Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula), All Rise is Porter's sixth studio album and fourth for the iconic Blue Note label. Like his 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit — the Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — Porter's latest is a confident display of his many gifts, starting with his ability to convey feelings of both exaltation and sadness with uncommon directness and warmth.

Selling out venues to capacity, like Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), as engaging and charismatic onstage as he is on his recordings, Porter performs in support of All Rise throughout 2020 in venues across the U.S. and Europe.

Gregory Porter in Concert

Though Gregory Porter has been widely heralded as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary jazz, his roots in soul and gospel are just as deep. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he got his start in music singing in the church where his mother was a minister. After a promising athletic career was cut short by an injury, he came to New York in 2004 and began building his profile through appearances and residencies at clubs in Brooklyn and Harlem. Porter's albums for the Motéma label — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012) — introduced listeners to a remarkable talent whose baritone voice maintained his warmth and richness regardless of the style and setting. His first album for Blue Note, Liquid Spirit (2013), marked a wider breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic, winning Porter his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. In 2017, Porter released Nat King Cole & Me (2017), a collection of songs recorded and inspired by his lifelong idol. His sixth studio album, All Rise, is released in the spring of 2020, with Porter performing new dates in the U.S. and Europe.

  • Christmas Just Ain’t Christmas Without The Ones You Love

by Rolling Since 2017 on 12/21/24Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Second time see Mr. Porter live and honestly I was a little nervous because the first experience was not the best. However, there is something about being in New Orleans during Christmas and the magic filled the Orpheum and exuded through GP background singers and musicians a like!! The vibe was amazing and the performance was exceptional. Wonderful mixture of Christmas songs and his hits. So glad we decided to make the trip down and see him again.

Musicianship of Gregory Porter is Sublimely Superb. Orpheum is great acoustics, seating leaves a great deal to be desired. Last year the venue was Sanger at same time and much better.

  • Memphis By way of Alabama

by Shona B. Johnson on 12/21/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge Gregory Porter fan. I was extremely grateful that I was able to purchase my tickets through a reputable vendor. For the past five years I have made it a priority of mines to attend one of his concerts while in the US. And yes, this means I actually get a group of ladies together and we fly to wherever he is. I absolutely love this man's sultry voice. I had never been to Memphis, so my gal group and I flew there and enjoyed the city as well as the Orpheum Theater. However, I must say the city was somewhat desolate. Thus, unless something spark my attention I have no plans on returning.

  • Huge Fan

by BunnyBee on 12/20/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

On 2/14/2022 I flew from Memphis to DC just to see him in concert for the first time. I was very impressed and became obsessed. ! On 2/22/2023 I drove to Nashville to see him. Then on 6/9/2024 I flew to Atlanta to see him. Shortly afterwards, it was announced he would be in Memphis 12/17/2024. I purchased tickets for that show as well. Out of them all, Memphis was my least favorite. It was more of a showcase for the band members than a performance by him.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed!

From the first note to the last. We were engaged all throughout. The band was exceptionally talented as well.

  • Smooth Crooner!

by MiaB on 12/20/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Oh Gregory Porter was so classy & outstanding! He reminded me of Luther Vandross without all the glitz. His voice is so smooth & soothing! I felt like I was floating in the air. I had my eyes closed most of the concert so I could feel every bit of his voice. I will see Gregory Porter every time he comes to Memphis! Just a classy & outstanding concert! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This was my first time seeing Gregory Porter. It was an amazing show, I only wish it had been longer. I could have listened to him for hours. If given the opportunity to see him again I will, and I recommend that other’s experience his performance also.
