About

Gregory Porter on Tour

With his rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deepest traditions of soul, jazz and gospel, Gregory Porter has established himself as one of America's most versatile and acclaimed vocalists. His artistry and sensitivity is plain to the ear whether he's putting his stamp on beloved standards by heroes like Nat "King" Cole or demonstrating his own writing talents with original songs strong enough to stand with the many classics in his repertoire.

Produced by Troy Miller (Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula), All Rise is Porter's sixth studio album and fourth for the iconic Blue Note label. Like his 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit — the Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — Porter's latest is a confident display of his many gifts, starting with his ability to convey feelings of both exaltation and sadness with uncommon directness and warmth.

Selling out venues to capacity, like Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), as engaging and charismatic onstage as he is on his recordings, Porter performs in support of All Rise throughout 2020 in venues across the U.S. and Europe.

Gregory Porter in Concert

Though Gregory Porter has been widely heralded as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary jazz, his roots in soul and gospel are just as deep. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he got his start in music singing in the church where his mother was a minister. After a promising athletic career was cut short by an injury, he came to New York in 2004 and began building his profile through appearances and residencies at clubs in Brooklyn and Harlem. Porter's albums for the Motéma label — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012) — introduced listeners to a remarkable talent whose baritone voice maintained his warmth and richness regardless of the style and setting. His first album for Blue Note, Liquid Spirit (2013), marked a wider breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic, winning Porter his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. In 2017, Porter released Nat King Cole & Me (2017), a collection of songs recorded and inspired by his lifelong idol. His sixth studio album, All Rise, is released in the spring of 2020, with Porter performing new dates in the U.S. and Europe.

  • Did Not Disappoint

    by Shann H on 1/3/25Dolby Theatre - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

"An Evening with Gregory Porter"was one of the best concerts I attended in 2024. Just like my title, he did not disappoint. He sang all his popular songs with style and grace. The band was amazing, especially when each band member displayed their musical talent by playing a solo. The base player's solo turned into a few old school favorites that led the audience singing along with Gregory, who also shared funny antecdotes along the way. Mr. Porter received a standing ovation as he exited the stage, only to come back on stage to sing two more popular numbers. He ended with "Be Good", a definite favorite of one fan who yelled the song title out throughout the concert...lol. The evening was both heartfelt and inspiring; one I'll always cherish. Thank you Gregory Porter for your voice, your style, and always conducting yourself as a gentleman. I salute you! Happy New Year to you and yours.

Wonderful! Truly a blessing!! Lovely venue, great concert!

  • Heartfelt and beautiful - hard to hear!

by NancyEL on 1/2/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Gregory Porter is a wonderful singer who sings from the heart! The concert was well planned and moving. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that the sound was flawed. Everyone I have spoken with about the concert has agreed that the band itself was too loud and we had to struggle to hear the vocals (both lead and the background vocals). This is not the fault of the musicians - it was the sound crew. Gregory Porter uses his music to spread love and kindness - loved his message!

  • An Evening to Always remember

by Sue on 1/2/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

From the moment Gregory’s voice resounded it was a magic performance. The voice, the original lyrics, the musical and vocal accompaniment all in harmony! We loved this evening! Bring Gregory back to Searrle!

  • Good concert, bad sound system settings

by Suzie Bonney on 1/2/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

The concert was good. I couldn't tell what the singer was singing because the sound was too mushy. The drums and bass were way loud.

gregory porter always puts on an amazing show, and this one did not disappoint. extremely talented musician/composer/performer. (too bad the paramount sound system is never up to the job for anything more than a duo . can we get him to benaroya hall??!)
