Gregory Porter on Tour
With his rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deepest traditions of soul, jazz and gospel, Gregory Porter has established himself as one of America's most versatile and acclaimed vocalists. His artistry and sensitivity is plain to the ear whether he's putting his stamp on beloved standards by heroes like Nat "King" Cole or demonstrating his own writing talents with original songs strong enough to stand with the many classics in his repertoire.
Produced by Troy Miller (Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula), All Rise is Porter's sixth studio album and fourth for the iconic Blue Note label. Like his 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit — the Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — Porter's latest is a confident display of his many gifts, starting with his ability to convey feelings of both exaltation and sadness with uncommon directness and warmth.
Selling out venues to capacity, like Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), as engaging and charismatic onstage as he is on his recordings, Porter performs in support of All Rise throughout 2020 in venues across the U.S. and Europe.
Gregory Porter in Concert
Though Gregory Porter has been widely heralded as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary jazz, his roots in soul and gospel are just as deep. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he got his start in music singing in the church where his mother was a minister. After a promising athletic career was cut short by an injury, he came to New York in 2004 and began building his profile through appearances and residencies at clubs in Brooklyn and Harlem. Porter's albums for the Motéma label — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012) — introduced listeners to a remarkable talent whose baritone voice maintained his warmth and richness regardless of the style and setting. His first album for Blue Note, Liquid Spirit (2013), marked a wider breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic, winning Porter his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. In 2017, Porter released Nat King Cole & Me (2017), a collection of songs recorded and inspired by his lifelong idol. His sixth studio album, All Rise, is released in the spring of 2020, with Porter performing new dates in the U.S. and Europe.
The show was great. The acoustic was amazing. The venue was wonderful.
View was perfect. Intimate venue, not sure if it's one bad seat in the building. Concert was amazing! Gregory Porter was phenomenal and sounded incredible.
Gregory Porter and an all star band delivered an amazing evening of soul, gospel and jazz. I was expecting Gregory to bring down the house; I was not expecting to see five other musicians who I would pay to see play again as the featured artist. Amazing, silky, soulful, gorgeous and a highlight of my DPAC experience this year. Thankyou
The concert was great! It was our first time seeing him.. and it was a great experience.
Staff courteous and attentive. Facility clean and comfortable. It was a lovely experience and I look forward to attending again!
Hello and thank you. I waited to see Greg Porter for awhile, love his music and watched many YouTube videos of him performing in other countries and states. I enjoyed the show but the band played too much instead of Greg singing. I was expecting to see his name in lights on a back drop curtain. The stage presence was dull, people arriving late causing others to uncomfortably stand up and down, twist and move. I understand unexpected circumstances and hope things will be better next concert. Also, he did not sing one of my favorite songs Probably Me.. Thanks
What a BEAUTIFUL night! Mr. Porter DID NOT disappoint! The music, the atmosphere, the people, the VIBE! It was MAGICAL!
These tickets were for my husband’s birthday, my husband likes Gregory Porter, especially the song “Maybe it was Me”. Even though he didn’t sing that song it was a great performance. We had a wonderful date evening together.
This is my second time seeing Gregory Porter in concert this time around outstanding looking forward to his next concert.
This man is so gifted. He sings from the heart and you can't help but be drawn in. His voice, his spirituality, his soul is all 💯.
Gregory Porter is a modern day performer. He puts his heart and soul into performing for his fans, his audience. The lyrics of Porter’s songs are relevant and meaningful. Makes you wanta holler throw up both your hands!!!
Gregory Porter is always awesome, but the ushers really should have paid more attention to patrons recording the performance, it was extremely distracting to have three cameras either in your face or periphery.
Gregory Porter gave an awesome performance. The voice, the song selections, the musicians, etc. were perfection.
Love the concert but for the price it could have included a guest singer to give you more for your money. The concert lasted about an hour. He was fantastic but was expecting more for the money.
The smooth silk voice of GLOWING Gregory Porter was our perfect “DATE NIGHT “. My husband and I truly enjoyed Gregory Porter Live for the second time. Our first live experience was at the DC jazz festival.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 we look forward to seeing him again soon, he’s phenomenal performer!
I loved every moment of it. I've only been a fan for a short period of his career, but he is worth the effort. I had the opportunity to see him in Dallas a few months ago and again in New Orleans on December 20th. For me, he is what is missing in today's musical pallet. I can't wait to see what's next from him. Kudos Gregory Porter!
The music was spectacular. Mr. Porter brought his soulfull talent to the stage. He set the tone with stories on how his music originated through life experiences. I throroughly enjoyed he and his band. Being this concert was promoted as a Christmas show, I just wished the stage was decorated in holiday cheer. I blame theater for that. I'm hoping he will produce a live concert album, because his songs were better than the original recordings.
A wonderfully crafted show! I clapped, laughed, cried, rejoiced in the miracle of the christmas season. His soothing baratone voice and the awesome musicians/artists engolfed the room. It was not just a concert it was a gift of self care. The lovely encoure leaves the audience wanting even more! Gregory Porter fans know not to leave so quickly! Would have loved a few more songs. My husband and I never get tired seeing Gregory Porter live performances.
Concert was amazing but I had a disapointment about sound system.
Gregory Porter, the jazz legend in the making with the rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deep traditions of soul, gospel, and blues did not disappoint during his 2023 Holiday Tour to the Detroit Opera House. Porter’s superb band, featuring Chip Crawford, Emmanuel Harrold, Jahmal Nichols, Mr. Ondre Pivec, and Tivon Pennicott provided the perfect accompaniment for Porter's soulful singing. This unforgettable performance was a musical gift that left me and the Detroit audience spellbound. If you have a chance to see him live, don't miss it. He will make you feel the spirit of Christmas and the joy of jazz.
