Gregory Porter on Tour
With his rich baritone voice and his mastery of the deepest traditions of soul, jazz and gospel, Gregory Porter has established himself as one of America's most versatile and acclaimed vocalists. His artistry and sensitivity is plain to the ear whether he's putting his stamp on beloved standards by heroes like Nat "King" Cole or demonstrating his own writing talents with original songs strong enough to stand with the many classics in his repertoire.
Produced by Troy Miller (Jamie Cullum, Laura Mvula), All Rise is Porter's sixth studio album and fourth for the iconic Blue Note label. Like his 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit — the Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — Porter's latest is a confident display of his many gifts, starting with his ability to convey feelings of both exaltation and sadness with uncommon directness and warmth.
Selling out venues to capacity, like Warner Theatre (Washington, D.C.), as engaging and charismatic onstage as he is on his recordings, Porter performs in support of All Rise throughout 2020 in venues across the U.S. and Europe.
Gregory Porter in Concert
Though Gregory Porter has been widely heralded as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary jazz, his roots in soul and gospel are just as deep. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he got his start in music singing in the church where his mother was a minister. After a promising athletic career was cut short by an injury, he came to New York in 2004 and began building his profile through appearances and residencies at clubs in Brooklyn and Harlem. Porter's albums for the Motéma label — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012) — introduced listeners to a remarkable talent whose baritone voice maintained his warmth and richness regardless of the style and setting. His first album for Blue Note, Liquid Spirit (2013), marked a wider breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic, winning Porter his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. In 2017, Porter released Nat King Cole & Me (2017), a collection of songs recorded and inspired by his lifelong idol. His sixth studio album, All Rise, is released in the spring of 2020, with Porter performing new dates in the U.S. and Europe.

Beautiful voice and personality. The band was wonderful. I feel blessed to have witnessed his talent and this event in person.
The experience at Chicago Theatre is just elegant. The acoustics and entertainment are top of the line. The staffing was very helpful, professional and knowledgeable about seating locations and the concession lines moved quickly. While the seating could use an upgrade in seat height and width, the sight view from any row is much better than most. It’s just the right size venue for Gregory Porter and his oh so talented musicians.
The Meyerhoff was perfect venue to see the always amazing Gregory Porter and his talented musicians and backup singers.
I purchased tickets as an early Christmas gift for my adult son. Family tragedy hit in November as we lost my 29 year old nephew to suicide. This concert gave us a chance to move from the devastation of intense grief to the reality that life is for the living, soak up all the joy you can. Thank you, thank you. Also the musicians especially that R&B medley on the base, had us jamming! God bless
I was very disappointed with this show, not what I was expecting at all. This was not billed by Ticketmaster as a Christmas show. Although I love Gregory Porters voice, I would have never gone if knew this was strictly a Christmas performance.
This was a fabulous show and from the moment Gregory Porter came onstage, we were entertained! His voice is so smooth and his tones are near perfect. The band was so talented and it's difficult to pick one as the most outstanding, as they were all great with their instrument. This was my husband and my first time seeing Gregory Porter in person, and we were NOT DISAPPOINTED at all!!!! He had wonderful audience contact and interaction, and his personal stories just drew you into him and the music even more. Just a wonderful experience and can't wait until we're able to see him again!!! The Chicago Theatre was a beautiful venue for this performance and sound quality was awesome!
Gregory Porter put on a masterful show. His voice is a once in a lifetime experience. The musicians in his orchestra were absolutely stellar, and put on quite a show themselves. I cannot wait until Mr .Porter returns to Chicago for another concert. BTW: The only downside to this concert were some of the people who attended. They were loud, late, rude and in some cases drunk.
He was great, however sometimes the band was to loud and could not make out the lyrics nor hear the backup singers. I'll see him again. ,
Enjoyed every minute of it.Sorry that i did not get the VIP tickets.
Gregory Porter is ALL OF THAT! The voice, the presentation, the band and backup vocalists were all in sync and gave a hell of a concert. My only negative, the damn audience members who showed up in the middle of the performance. I wish the Chicago theater would adopt the Lyric policies and make people wait outside until there is a break in the performance. I don't understand how someone can purchase front row seats and come in 15 late and disrupt the entire concert!
I chose the box seats in O seats 3 & 4. Excellent seats for anyone under 5’8”. Great view, easy access to washrooms and snack bar. Only one level up the stairs. Sound was great not too loud. Doors open one hour before the show but you are allowed to your seats a half an hour before the show. Excellent show & beautiful historical building.
Porter has such a beautiful voice and his genuine loveliness and kindness radiate through his singing. Loved the concert.
Good experience Enjoy the event His music is heavenly
Wonderful performance!! Enjoyed every moment. The entire band was fantastic as well. We are always there when Gregory Porter comes to town. Looking forward to the next event.
This is the second time I have seen Gregory Porter in concert, my wife's third time. He has never done a bad show. He is an amazing singer with amazing musicians. Would go again anytime, anywhere!
A powerfully uplifting voice. Seeing a video of "The Alley"a year ago, left her mesmerized. So I surprised her. Now she's telling everyone she knows and meets. He was excellent, the band, spectacular. A great way to start a Christmas season. We're fans forever...and may God continue to bless his work and his career
The Chicago Theater is a great venue and Gregory Porter NEVER disappoints!
The show was phenomenal!! Gregory Porter's voice is a rare treasure.
His voice is EVERYTHING PURE MAGIC Now the parking was horrible But the show was WONDERFUL
I love Gregory Porter and his talented musicians (especially Chip). I was also happy that the concert was in Baltimore and in such a comfortable location. However, I was disappointed that there were no new pieces. I also thought that the background singers added little to the performance.
