About

Green Day redefined punk rock in a post-grunge world. Rising from the Bay Area punk scene in 1987, the band released several EPs before coalescing into their long-standing lineup of vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. The trio shared the independent album Kerplunk in 1991 before releasing their major label debut Dookie in 1994. Behind singles like “Longview,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around,” which each topped the Alternative Airplay chart, Dookie reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Dookie earned Green Day three Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the album continues to stand as the band’s best-selling release with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Green Day followed with 1995’s Insomniac and 1997’s Nimrod, with the latter boasting the band’s biggest creative shift with the rare acoustic single, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” After 2000’s Warning, Green Day spent the next few years developing their first of several ambitious projects, the 2004 punk rock opera American Idiot. The album became Green Day’s first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and it logged two Top 10 singles with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” American Idiot garnered seven Grammy nominations and won two, including Best Rock Album. The band won the Best Rock Album Grammy again with 2009’s concept album 21st Century Breakdown. A stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway in 2010 and won two Tony Awards and a Grammy for the cast recording. Furthermore, Green Day were first-ballot inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

    Green Day was unforgettable!!!

by MayMay on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

It was awesome!!!! The lights-whooo!!! The fireworks--I could feel the heat! It was just so cool!!! The digitized background was really good, too. And so were the videos that went with the song. The crowd was really good, too, -- like when they turned off the cameras so it was a private affair! So great! He had the audience's attention the whole time, and it was awesome when he said the band is now from Seattle!! And don't forget the drunk bunny--hilarious! Good mix of old and new songs, too.

Greeen Day First concert of tour

    by raycb3 on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

My first Green Day concert, their first concert of the tour. I was very impressed, Billie Joe always does well and he did not dissapoint. I have been to many concerts, this was my first alternative band experience. I really enjoyed it, I thought I was going to be the "old" guy there, but the demographics were simply amazing. Lots of fireworks, some BIG bang effects and great music. They did almost every song I wanted to hear. They were tight as a group and seemed to have a lot of fun doing the show. I love the new album and of course Dookie, which are the only 2 I have, but I've head them on the radio for years and knew most of the songs. They interact very well with the audience and left a memorable experience for my money.

    Green Day rocked the house

by katyottie on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

Ive always been a fan of Green Day but never saw them live. I must say I missed out because this show freakin rocked! The digital backgrounds were awesome and the pirotechnics (sp?) were the some of the best Ive seen. But I think the best thing about Green Day was their interaction with the fans. I thought that showed how truley awesome and appreciative they are. So overall I give this show a must see because there was never a dull moment. GREEN DAY ROCKED!!!

I was very impressed by the visual displays in the background. The band did a great job of getting the crowd excited and involved. They played a good mix of old and new stuff. Bottom line, they sounded good live.

    HOT! HOT! HOT!

    by CYPRO1 on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

This show was awesome. The stage and light show was spectacular!! They played songs from every era! Billy Joe was the greatest with crowd interaction. He invited many different people on stage. A young boy named Akiva, a girl and a guy to sing with them at different times which I'm sure was the most unforgettable moments in their lives!! It was one of the best shows I've ever been too. I brought my 15 year old daughter and 3 of her friends and they loved it.

    by Sarah1962 on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

I loved the music and the pyrotechnics but the interaction with the crowd was amazing. Billie you are as I thought such a nice guy and I love the music/lyrics. This was the first concert I've been too in years and it was special as I took my kids (15 & 13) to their first concert and it was great. Thanks Green Day!! I'd come see you again if I could this show you have is great.

    Greenday is amazing

by jfulton on 7/5/09KeyArena - Seattle

This is the second time that I saw Greenday live. I go to alot of concerts and they by far put on the best show. They know how to please the crowd and play an array of favorites and new songs. I lost my voice from screaming along. Don't miss out on them if you have the chance. I drove 3 hours to see them and it was totally worth it!

    Green Day was Fantastic!

by Alice on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Green Day opened their concert tour in Seattle, WA on Friday July 3rd, 2009 in the Key Arena. I am a Green Day fan and, as my daughter is as well and she was the perfect partner in crime to attend with. Plus, at age 12, this would be her very first concert. The 'Green Day' experience started while waiting in line. The Green Day tour bus was parked in front of the Key Arena and provided a perfect back drop for some great pictures. Closer to the Arena, Verizon Wireless had a booth set up with the Verizon Wireless Toyota FJ Cruiser. They were taking pictures that would appear on the screen inside the arena. The Key Arena staff were friendly and enjoyable to chat with. Their performance was incredible and enjoyable throughout. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre' Cool created the feeling of intimacy one would find in a club setting in an arena setting. The music was loud. Wonderfully loud! They truly sound fantastic live but not 'canned' like so many of the popular acts out there now days. Once in awhile, the volume would overshadow the vocals but not very often. The special effects were excellent and provided a perfect compliment to the music without over powering the musicians. In addition to the excellent music, they involved the audience in multiple bits. Their warped sense of humor was fantastic. From beginning to end, most everyone was on their feet (both general admission and assigned seating) at were more a part of the concert than attendees. To anyone out their who might question if they should attend: I would highly recommend this venue. I enjoyed it so much, I might fly to the Vegas or California venue just to hear them again!

    Billie Joe is unbelievable

    by almst40 on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

What a great show - I don't really know too much about Green Day's music (I probably only knew 3 or 4 of the songs they played) but it totally didn't matter. They put on a fantastic show.

    Green Day--best EVER!!1

by mahjong on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

This was the most amazing concert I've ever been too, and I've seen quite a few bands over the years. Billy Joe not only has a wonderful voice, but he is a fabulous showman, working the crowd to a frenzy. No other band demands such audience participation and is able to make the ones chosen to get up on stage feel comfortable and safe from mockery. The set up was unreal, as were the backgrounds. Incredible pyrotechnics. Great job Green Day! I'm ready to quit my job and become a band groupie-LOL

    Green Day rocked!

by MamaPajama on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre Cool were in amazing form as they kicked off their 21st Century Breakdown Tour, interspersing cuts from their most recent album with past work from American Idiot, Dookie, and past albums. Billie Joe worked the stage and the crowd adeptly, as the band powered through two solid hours of nonstop playing. The accompanying pyrotechnics and lightboards were well-timed with the music, and enhanced the overall show. Fabulous show!!!

    top class rock n roll

by earlywater on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

To see Green Day live is nothing like listening to their records. Its like watching a movie in 3d. There's lights, Billy Joe's antics pulling people up on stage, improvisations, and all that on top of professionally rendered rock n roll. Shouldn't miss them if they're touring your city.

    worth the trip to Seattle

by vegmom on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Awesome kick off to the tour! We hoped they would come through Portland, but they were totally worth the drive to Seattle. It was my daughters first concert, and she LOVED it.

    Incredible

by KarmaGypsy on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

I made my husband see this show and this was our first time seeing Green Day live. I'm a big fan and he is not - so I'm going to post his review as it's unbiased. After the show, he mentioned to me that he has seen a lot of concerts in 80s and, in his words, he called Green Day "very professional." He mentioned that they were tight, very entertaining, minimal pauses between songs and did a long set at two and a half hours. He even laughed a couple of times at Billie's antics. He's still not a big fan, but he said they did the show very well and he was impressed by their performance.

    Good concert

by Eugene on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Overall it was good. Lots of energy and profeesionalizm of the group. They really rock! Bad things: 1. Sound was too loud. 2. I missed big screen to see details of what's going on on stage.
