About

Green Day redefined punk rock in a post-grunge world. Rising from the Bay Area punk scene in 1987, the band released several EPs before coalescing into their long-standing lineup of vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. The trio shared the independent album Kerplunk in 1991 before releasing their major label debut Dookie in 1994. Behind singles like “Longview,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around,” which each topped the Alternative Airplay chart, Dookie reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Dookie earned Green Day three Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the album continues to stand as the band’s best-selling release with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Green Day followed with 1995’s Insomniac and 1997’s Nimrod, with the latter boasting the band’s biggest creative shift with the rare acoustic single, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” After 2000’s Warning, Green Day spent the next few years developing their first of several ambitious projects, the 2004 punk rock opera American Idiot. The album became Green Day’s first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and it logged two Top 10 singles with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” American Idiot garnered seven Grammy nominations and won two, including Best Rock Album. The band won the Best Rock Album Grammy again with 2009’s concept album 21st Century Breakdown. A stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway in 2010 and won two Tony Awards and a Grammy for the cast recording. Furthermore, Green Day were first-ballot inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

    Green Day was AMAZING!!!

by Mable on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

The show was amazing. It consisted of a half hour of the bravery and two hours of Green Day, oh yeash there was a a guy in a pink bunny suit between the bands. Green day is one of the best live bands ever, they played most of their hits and even got the crowd involved. The show was full of surprises witht he pyrotechnics that they had. They even got the crowd involved, even having a few people come up on stage to either sing, dance or play guitar. The bravery were amazing as well. In the end it was an amazing show, and definately one of the best I've been to. I think it was a great start to the tour.

Just as awesome as every other time!

    by getALife996 on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

This is the 3rd time I've seen them live, although I've been a huge fan of their music ever since the mid 90's. Their shows are always some of the best I've seen. Not only is their music great, but these guys know how to entertain. They do a great job of mixing the music also. They always play a good amount of the classic greenday, with of course the new stuff. If you haven't seen them, and you are a fan of their music (ALL of their music), you should definitely see them. If you've only heard their last 2 albums (21st Century Breakdown and American Idiot), you should listen to some of the 90's Greenday also. A lot of that gets played. I don't think the kid and her mom next to me ever listened to the old stuff, just the calmed down new stuff. They ended up leaving like 3 songs in, and didn't look impressed. Their is a big difference between their music, so listen to it all. If you like it all, you will absolutely love their show!

GreenDay - Key Arena - Awesome

by Nicksy on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Opening act didn't suit the venue, and the feedback was terrible at times, but when Greenday took the stage, all of that was forgotten. Encore was awesomeness. They are a big crowd pleaser and know how to work a crowd

    Greatest show on tour

by jackilona on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

I expected a great show and was not disappointed. Billie Jo pulled people on stage and included them in the show. Most amazing was a young guitar player. Billie asked if he knew how to play and if he knew their material. The kid got up onstage and rocked it, the whole band was amazed! They played lots of the old stuff while incorporating songs from the new album. Pyrotechnics galore, well rehearsed, tight performance

GREEN DAY! GREEN DAY! GREEN DAY!

by GreenFaerie on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Green Day's performance was flawless! Their energy was high and Billie Joe was perfect. They never disappoint at a show. We had an amazing time and enjoyed every minute of Green Day's performance. I got to give kudos to Tre as he played none stop for a few songs and never missed a beat. The Bravery was good but we could tell their recorded songs are over-produced. They should stick to the raw sound of their music. The Key hosted and did a great job of supplying beverages and memorabilia, although some attendants were very rude to patient consumers. We know there are a lot of people, but if they don’t know what they want, move onto the next person who does and come back to them when they have decided. I would like to thank the staff profusely for stocking the bathrooms with enough toilet paper for the event; a small detail that means a world of difference for affecting the overall experience. To the guys in Green Day, you keep that energy and passion that bleeds from your music and continue recording these insightful and thought provoking tunes. You had succeeded time and again in touching people’s souls with the raw power of your lyrics and music. As a side note, please, please, please create a downloadable set from your latest album for Rock Band on the 360. I love your music and playing it is so deliriously fun!

    Best Performers I've Seen!

by RenewedLoveForGreenDay on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Green Day was amazing! I will never forget this concert. Though Billie Joe didn't drop trow like other concerts, Green Day blew me away. Everything was amazing, except for the three people in front of us who seemed to think they were part of the show. They had tons of audience interaction and brought multiple people from the GA area on stage to sing and dance and squirt people with squirt guns. One kid got to play Jesus of Suburbia with them, using Billie Joe's guitar. All in all, pretty amazing.

    Green Day Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    by arcane69420 on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

These guys really know how to put on a great show. Billie interacted with the crowd probaly more than I've ever seen an artist do. They played a perfect set of old and new songs. The energy of the band was unbelievable, which rubbed off on the crowd. Our Seattle crowd kept it real for Green Day and showed them all the love they deserve. I will go see Green Day again and again.

Green Day - show for the Century

by Jetthenet on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

This show was more than worth the price of entry. The Bravery was a great choice for an opening act. The main event though was epic. Lights, background, and pyrotechnic where a plus to every Green Day song Billie would play on the stage. Energetic and charismatic, if you're not a fan before the show you will be by the first 10 minutes.

Green Day totally ROCKED!!! One of the best shows I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of concerts!!! They had the audience in the palm of their hand, played a great variety of old and new song and brought people up on the stage from the crowd to sing and play guitar! Those kids will have memories to last a lifetime! What an awesome bunch of guys that just keep rocking! AMAZING.

Green Day, Rock and Roll by the #'s

by TheQuadfather on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Green Day's opening night of their latest tour was a high octane great show. They worked through most of their new album, and a lot of "American Idiot" They covered some older tunes, and even The Isley Bros. "Shout" People between 8-18 probably thought they were wintessing the 2nd coming........... The sound was great, as was the light and pyro show. They played very well. My only thing in the neg. to say was that it was a little too formalaic. A little bit like Power Pop Punk goes to Vegas. But if you are a middle ager reading this, and you've got an adolecent,, by all means they will love it.

    Freeeekin Awesome!

by StillLifeWoodpecker on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

I must say I was worried about opening night of the tour in Seattle while watching the opening band The Bravery. I wasn't familiar with them but downloaded a couple of songs off iTunes to listen to on my way to the concert. Nice band reminiscent of The Alarm from the 80's, but their stage presence was "thrown together" at best. Even the Green Day set that was hiding behind The Bravery's big banner seemed underwhemling and low-tech. Boy was I wrong! The piano chords intro to 21st Century Breakdown rang out from a dark stage as the guys took the stage and then POW! The whole place came alive to "Born into Nixon I was raised in hell..." and what turned out to be an AWESOME 2.5hrs of Green Day music and an amazing video and pyrotechnic display. Man, Billy Joe can really work the crowd. The place was ROCKIN!

by Muzets on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

This show was absolutely awesome! This was one of the BEST concerts I have ever attended. This wasn't just a band playing it was an outright feast for the senses, well worth the ticket price. I would go to every performance if I could. This was probably the best show of the year, ya gotta see it!!!

Green Day show great - video sync a little off

by DrummerD on 7/4/09KeyArena - Seattle

Green Day put on a fantastic show last night at the Key Arena. They worked the crowd, got the audience up on stage to play and sing - I'd never seen that before, and it was really cool. The band had good interplay, and the sound was very good for an arena show (so many are not equalized well). My one gripe was the video effects that would be shown sometimes as a background for some songs - the videos showed the band members playing the song, but it was always a bit off of what the sound was, by almost a full second. It's a minor thing, I know, but it distracted me from really enjoying the songs.
