  • Like always, Green Day didn't disappoint!

    by rnadia12 on 7/27/13Milwaukee Theatre - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a HUGE fan of both Green Day and the Theatre. When I found out American Idiot was going to be made into a musical I was overjoyed(especially because it was going to be a Broadway show)! When I found out American Idiot: The Musical was coming to my city I was beyond excited. As a person who has seen many plays and musicals, I had never seen a musical that had very few dialogue. In this musical the songs truly do tell the story, and the monologue and dialogue are just extra. The set design was one of the best pieces of art that I ever seen. Green Day and Tom Kitt(who also did musical arrangements for Next to Normal, my second favorite musical, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and two Tony Awards for Best Score) did a phenomenal job with the musical arrangement. Overall American Idiot is the best musical I have ever seen. What I love most about American Idiot is that is does not how old you are, if you're a Green Day fan you will love it!

To me, this musical is as great as Rent. I'm in love with it!

Loved the show. it brought back a lot of great memories. That was a good and bad time for the USA. But we all lived through it.

  • Awesome stage and musical talent.

by ShowzGoer on 6/10/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The stage is intricate, and the use of the television sets throughout compliments the music and adds a dynamism to the stage. At one point, the whole stage becomes a television. The many costumes and costume changes add another layer of visual complexity. I was also impressed with how much musical talent was present on the stage.

  • awesome show

...lots of lights and action to the tunes of Green Day. One important thing to note, there is no intermission. Beware, plan accordingly. :)

  • American Idiot was toe tapping good!

by dbmommyof3 on 6/8/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time I had taken my adult son to the theatre let alone a musical, let alone one that it is based on music by Green Day. He had given me the American Idiot CD and I loved it so much that when I heard about the play, I had to take him. We both were tapping our feet and singing along (quietly) throughout the whole show which goes from start to end without an intermission. It was so creative how they took the music and made it into a musical, along the same lines as The Who's Pinball Player. I guarantee you will leave with a smile on your face and tapping your feet all the way home.

  • exceeded expectations

by edgarshoes on 6/6/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

so i was ready to see a musical(period). and that is exactly what this was a musical version of Green Day's American Idiot, with a few other songs mixed in. I wan't expecting much, but I was suprised at their creativity and some of the voices. ALthough I have to say the two guys that sang first were a bit out of tune, but everything shaped up later. towards the end there was a number with al women and it got too loud and it kinda hurt my ears, but overall it was a good show. i know our daughter enjoyed it, and basically we went for her. i am not a fan of GD, but the show was worth it.

  • Punk Rock Opera

by C3POhhhh on 6/5/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

It's a very loud show; tell Grandma and Grandpa that are season ticket holders to the local theater to stay home or give the tickets to punk rock Billy grandson. If you like Green Day, you'll like this show.

  • Green Day's American Idiot was a SURPRISE!

by BestMelody on 6/5/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen them all: Phantom, Mama Mia, Cats, Les Mis! I had no idea what I was getting into with this one. In the beginning the verbiage was quite strong meaning a lot of the "F*ck" word which I am not used to but it set the mood for the story line. The show moved along quickly with a good plot (no intermission) and there were times that I was excitedly anticipating the next scene. The music completely compliments the story and you do not have to be a fan of Green Day to enjoy this show. It was excellent!

  • Much anticipation and sooooooooo worth the wait!!

I've been wanting to see this show since the idea of it was first announced and so happy it came to San Diego. The touring cast and musicians were incredibly talented and did justice to Green Day's music.

Excellent, music, dancing , story line all came together. My son went to school with Armsrtong in Berkeley 1989 he was talented then and has grown into a professional musician and producer,

  • NOT MY CUP OF TEA....

by dennyd3 on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

Sorry for the yelling, but my ears are still bleeding!! I guess I'm just too old for this type of show. Also, I did not feel that the language was necessary to the "plot" and I failed to find a good coupling of on stage activities. The production was excellent, the sets were fit for the style of the show and the actors were VERY good singers. For some reason, I could NOT catch up with the story line, so I was bewildered throughout the entire performance.

  • An American Idiot

by harvster01 on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Best musical we've seen in a year. Right up there with Wicked! High powered all the way through. Bought up some strong emotions.

A great musical with excellent musicians. The main cast was excellent, although the male lead was not the best voice of the cast. The story was abstract and went well with music. The addition of captioning was unexpected and somewhat distracting.

Good Music, reflecting a sort of Punk American Era with the Album's music as a story. The musical has some scenes that are not for children or teens in my opinion... But none the less a good musical.

  • American Idiot is great, especially the music and

This musical was amazing! I really felt like I was at a concert. As much as I love Green Day, I feel like I probably won't get the chance to ever see them in concert. I felt that this was as close to a Green Day show as I could get. The actors were terrific and it was fun hearing Green Day songs sung by different people. I found myself wanting to sing along too. :)
