  • American Idiot is trash

by Denniskp on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

Both my wife and I were disappointed in the theme of the show. Drug addicts, promiscuity, and disrespect. Not our cup of tea.

  • If you love Green Day you'll love this musical

by Musicalfan60 on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The staging is terrific. I love Green Day and to see this album in musical form makes sense. Would highle recommend.

  • LOVED it!

by MMMMM1232 on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The music and acting we excellent. So energetic--fun but profound at the same time.

  • I Love This Show!!

by MC619 on 6/4/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

This was my third time seeing "American Idiot," and while the current show didn't feel quite as special as the original Broadway production I saw in 2010, this cast is better than the one that toured last year. I'm not a huge fan of musicals, and as a long-time Green Day fan was reluctant about what this show would be, but it's excellent. Every time I see it, it takes me back to the 2002-2004 time frame. Excellent music, excellent staging - everything about this show is just great. If you don't like loud music, you might want to bring some earplugs. But no matter what, don't miss it!!

  • American Idiot was awesome!

by Kz45 on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Really enjoyed this show. Even better then I had expected. High energy and fun. Great music.

  • Interesting -- but the plot was a bit obscure...

by Ramonaplaygoer on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Good music, lots of energy. If I had not read a review, I would have been a bit lost on the plot. I would recommend it. I couldn't believe that it had been an hour and 45 minutes when it was done. If you like the music, don't mind profanity and aren't offended by simulated sex, you'll probably enjoy it. Not for the faint of heart.

  • Green Day's American Idiot Broadway Show was GREAT

by helgagold on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The music was amazing.... The lyrics told most of the story. The lights were great. The singing was beautiful. I was sitting in the 20th row, that was my mistake. Would have loved to be closer. I have heard that the music was going to be loud. I thought it could have even been louder. I walked away completely happy feeling like I just witnessed something very artsy. Thank you for putting this out there. I am looking forward to the the Movie. If that is still happening.

  • American Idiot gets Real!

by Wunsch on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

A very good musical that keeps the story real. Unlike having a mystery phantom, or a magic lamp, or talking animals, this story is about Real Teenagers trying to get out into the world and make something of themselves playing music. Problem: One gets his girlfriend pregnant, one joins the military and gets sent to fight foreign enemies, and one gets deeply involved with drugs. Sound familiar? It should, it is part of our lives. Real possibilities and real occurrences. I like the music provided by Green Day and it is in a language I can understand. The dancers are physically imperfect. Not a bunch of ballet artists. Girls with hips and thighs. Guys with bellies. They did mostly some type of Krump dancing and it worked to impress the angst of each dancer. Definitely different and a bit loud. Not a show for grandma and keep your young children at home since this show is NOT for young kids. Sexual scenes, foul language, etc. is part of the show being real. I enjoyed it enormously.

  • Enjoyable

  • American Idiot is the "Hair" of our time.

by firedoc46 on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

We saw American Idiot in Costa Mesa about one year ago to the day and being a huge Green Day fan for 20+ years, my expectations were very high. That performance impressed me greatly and the show at the San Diego Civic Theatre was just as amazing. Great job by all of the performers and the band. Fantastic storyline and message as well. Would definitely see it again and again.

  • Nonstop action.

by KWH300 on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. It never had a boring moment. It was an 1hr 40min long with no entermission and you don't even notice. It holds your attenion so well the time just flies by. And if you love Greenday you will absolutely love it! I plan on going to see it again if I get a chance.

  • American Idiot was ok

by mmmmmm3 on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I took my 14 year old daughter to the play as she loves Green Day. The show was pretty good and full of excitement however, I was very unimpressed with the amount of profanity. It was completely unnecessary. I can see using a few words but it was constant throughout the entire show and in every scene. There was also a sex scene that was pretty tasteless and unnecessary. Definitely not a show for kids under 16 in my opinion.

  • Good, Not Great

by BootcampGirl on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

The music was amazing, especially if you like Green Day as much as I do. The performers were wonderful - both in song and in dance. However, the only the reason I'm giving the show an average rating is because of the lack of a solid story line. It was very difficult to follow the plot which was really all over the place. It certainly did not lend itself to being a strong story with characters you could truly embrace and dive into their personalities. I enjoyed it, but would not see it again. The San Diego cast, nonetheless, were amazing singers and musicians - very well done!

  • American Idoit Head Banging

by Anonymous on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

All my expectations of a Broadway show were let down. They should have thrown in some acting instead of going from one song to the next without stopping. The costumes excuse me what costumes there weren't any they used the same clothes for the entire show. The setting was the same for the whole show, hello what am I paying big bucks for just to see the same scene for the whole show? The dancers needed to do a lot less head banging and more acting. The head banging got old real soon since it seemed to be their favorite way to dance. I won't be going back to see it again.

  • "American Idiot" rocks San Diego!

by Roseraves on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Terrific production: voice talent, sets, choreography all top notch!

  • Holiday!

by Jamazon on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed this high-energy, talented cast! Live band on stage rocked. The women characters were better singers than the men characters. Totally loved the dream sequence with the characters flying and dancing: WONDERFULLY done.

  • American Idiot lived up to its name

by desertvoice on 6/3/13San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

In a word, HORRIBLE. It was loud, could not clearly understand the lyrics.

I loved it! The cast sing so well and everything was perfect.
