About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

    Best concert ever!!!

by Kim on 11/21/23Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

The concert was amazing. I was impressed with the arena concerning the accommodations that were available, easily accessible. We did have some issues with getting an Uber afterwards, but the concert and venue was great.

    Amazing

    by Higgy on 11/21/23

We saw George at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth and everything was amazing. The venue is beautiful and George sounds just like he did in the 90s when I saw him live for the first time. He really is the King is Country.

    Awesome Experience

by George Strait fan on 11/21/23Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

We flew from Atlanta to Fort Worth just to see George Strait in concert. We have been fans since the early 80's. George still has it. He never disappoints. We saw him this year in Nashville (got rained out) and Atlanta, but Fort Worth, by far, was the best. We will definitely catch another show or 2 in 2024.

    Epic

by Strait Fan on 11/21/23Dickies Arena - Fort Worth

Concert was great! I understand the four-sided stage concept ( 4 microphones) but it would have been nice to watch the whole concert with him in front. We got his back 3/4 of the time -- everyone did equallly. But hey -- i saw GS live how bad can it be?

    Atlanta, 23

by Real Gene on 11/2/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Was really a great event. The lineup of performers was incredible. The only downside I have seventh row seats on the floor really great view and sound terrible for getting snacks a beer or going to the bathroom and the chairs were terrible I guess that’s Mercedes-Benz bad.

    Lightening shortened concert

by Bebe on 11/1/23Nissan Stadium - Nashville

Had 4 tickets. Paid over 300 for each ticket. Flew in from Texas. Had to leave stadium after 1 hour of George Strait’s concert. No partial refund. Took 60 minutes to evacuate. George was great, but too short.

    GREAT SHOW

    by pampered165 on 10/31/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Love George only issue was his sound system wasn't set right and it muffled a lot of the songs for the higher seating. Carrie Underwood's system wwas loud and crisp. So It was the system that george was using that made it hard to understand some music.

Love George - Acoustics not so much

by KnP on 10/28/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Absolutely love George Strait, bought the tickets during first day of presell so excited for concert. Little Big Town, Willie and Family, and Carrie Underwood were all fantastic and sounded amazing! However, when George came on the acoustics in the Benz had totally changed. I don't know if it was his sound guys or what, but the bounce back of the music was terrible. If the drummer hit the drum 3 times, it almost sounded like 5. Everyone around us was talking about it. It didn't happen with the other acts, and they were great, but we were here to see and HEAR George, but the sound was a HUGE disappointment! Still thankful we saw him, but the sound definitely put a damper on the experience big time!

    Historical Show

by Candi on 10/28/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

How do you describe perfection? Engaging, exciting, perfect voices, memorable songs, down-to-earth, genuine, honest, talented, and so much more!! The King's voice is still the same. Carrie is an awesome entertainer and so beautiful. Little Big Town was tremendously engaging with the audience. And Willie......what can I say? I felt honored and humbled to watch this American legend perform. The only issue I had was that the gates should have opened at least an hour earlier to allow for a larger crowd for the LBT performance. The stadium was barely a quarter full when they came on stage.
