About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

George sang a lot of songs we didn’t even know & not some we expected. The acoustics were not good. A lot of echoing.

King George! Such a great concert! Music for hours! We saw Willie Nelson too! Such a great lineup! Carrie Underwood belts it out and Little Big Town was so fun. Amazing night! Only complaint was the acoustics,I don't know if it was mercedes benz stadium design or the sound system, but it was difficult to hear and understand the vocals.

    So much Fun

by RJS on 10/26/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

We had a great time! Wish George would have sang more of his original songs and less covers. He has too many hits to sing other songs ;)

    Excellent

    by TW&DW on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

The concert was amazing. The concessions were great. They kept the lines moving, which kept you at your seats listening to the performers. So glad we got to see all 4 performers.

    Phenomenal from entrance to exit

by George's biggest fan on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

The Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta was truly top notch. From entrance to exit. Staff was friendly and helpful. Facilities were exceptionally clean and maintained. Concessions you cannot beat the prices. Everything was so cheap. And George Strait there is just nothing to say about this iconic legend that would do him justice. Truly the best. Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town and Willie Nelson were just the cherry on the top to an absolutely extraordinary night.

Concert Awesome - Ticket Directions Terrible

by John on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Got an email that says to go to gate two for the vip ticket. Went there and was told that I had to go to gate one. And from there it was total chaos to get to the vip section. 12,000 + steps later we finally got there and I don’t think we got everything that we were supposed to get because we were late because of all the confusion. Finally getting to see George Straight through the whole concert calmed me down. That was awesome.

Not the best one out of 11

by Elvitta on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Hello. We are George Strait fans! We have been to 11 George Strait concerts in our 25 years of marriage, and my husband has been to 21 concerts. George Strait is really the only music he listed to. This past concert in ALT had a different vibe. The opening acts were great (although Carrie Underwood didn't seem to fit with George Strait) and the crowd liked Willie and Carrie. But George sang so many slow songs in a row, and he sang more songs the audience didn't know. He has 60 number 1 hits, surely he can sing those just mix them up? I even welcome songs not on the radio but were on his albums. I know those. Thank you.

    Awesome Show!

by Jkite on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Once in a lifetime show. All four artists were top notch. Mercedes stadium was impressive. Easy entry, tons of food and beverage vendors so short lines, exit just as smooth. My only issue was the sound quality. Maybe to be expected in such a huge, cavernous venue, but the echo definitely detracted from the experience. Still, in all, an excellent show in almost every way!

Fantastic concert! Unfortunately, we were too late for Little Big Town due to traffic & closed roads. However, Willie, George Strait & Carrie Underwood were fabulous!

    Not great

by Helga L on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Floor seats - too narrow, couldn’t see the stage Too expensive for the seats we had on the floor Opening acts too long before George Strait took the stage Didn’t play my favorite song - “Amarillo by Morning “ Too crowded all around, people fighting in the seats behind us

    Not worth the money

by Dilly on 10/25/23Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

This isn't a knock on the performers because they were fine and the stadium is nice but, the sound in the arena was terrible. Couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics during any of the performances because of feedback and the how loud the music was. I've seen George Strait many times and this was the first time I've ever experienced the sound that bad.
