About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

    George Strait & Reba

by kat62 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Reba's portion of the show was fabulous and i particularyly enjoyed the duet she did with Leann Womack. George seemed like he was out of steam or not feeling weel. His song selection was very odd. I enjoyed the whole show, but Reba was the star last night.

Parking was pricey but the show was great. Both Reba and George sounded as good as ever and as good as recorded.

    Reba/George

by Plummer on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

I was not impressed at all with Lee Ann Womack. I thought Reba was great. I have seen her 3 times, and she has never disapointed me. I thought George was good, but not great. The sound system was not as good as I have encountered there in the past. I was there for the Eagles concert last year, and the sound system was much better then compared to last night. I did think the stage in the middle of the floor was a good idea.

GEO WAS GREAT BUT REBA WAS AWESOME

by ARebaFan on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

The show was longggg! - pushing 5 hours ... LeeAnn Womack opened with about 30 minutes of her hits... I like her, but she does not have quite the phlash that Reba & George have... Reba did about 1 1/2 hour show... her duet with Womack was awesome... Reba really engages with and knows how to work the audience. I saw her years ago when she was headlining... she hasn't lost an ounce of energy or style! George is still king! Hard to argue with his endurance ... with almost every song he sang, I was transported back to those significant moments in my life (good memories!) that his hit was on the top of the charts... he has so many #1's it's impossible for him to sing them all... he's laid back, low energy - I loved it!

    Awesome!

by socograndma on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

If they came back next week, I'd do it all over. Both were fabulous. Reba looked tremendous in her jeans and boots; then came her encore in her sparkling red dress - awesome! Only one song in the encore, a little disappointing, but not enough to complain about. George, omg, looks phenomenal! Sounds wonderful -- and his encore of three songs was tremendous. Reba worked the crowd a little better than George -- but who cared!

King and Queen of country---they've still got it!!

by Vern36 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Great show! Both George and Reba sang a lot of their greats. They were entertaining and the sound was awesome. The place was packed and the energy was very catchy. LeAnn Womack and Reba's rendition of "Does he love you" was awesome! Melissa Peterman came on stage with Reba and sang the Reba show's theme song....very entertaining.

    Country at its best

by rideflhx on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

If you like real country music, this is the show for you! If you are looking for country / rock or country / pop, well, you're not going to find it here. Lee Ann, Reba, and George all delivered a remarkable performance. For those who criticize George Strait as too laid back, well, they simply don't get it. True George Strait fans (and there are a lot of us - see record sales statistics) appreciate his style and want nothing else but the George Strait that we saw last night. He's all about honesty, class, and being a true American. Reba's personality sparkles and shines. Her voice is wonderfully distinctive and perfectly suited for country music. Watch out George, she's trying to steal the show! And Lee Ann - I loved the moment when she recognized that Reba and George were to follow, saying she was just happy to be part of it. Now that's very classy and very humble. You feel like you could go honky tonkin' with her and have a great time.

It was a classic country concert where singing and in George Strait's case, crooning, were the center of the event. It was a relaxing evening of good music and honest entertainment.

    Reba was GREAT!!!

by golfman123 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

The concert was a wonderful combination of Country Music. The two superstars of Country did not disappoint me. Being a hugh Reba fan, I thought she was outstanding. She is just a wonderful live performer and knows how to get the most out of each song. The contrast between Reba and George's performing styles was very evident in this duo event. It was great seeing them together.
