  • Great Performance poor sound

    by Acquasparta1 on 9/11/16Toyota Oakdale Theatre - WallingfordRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I are huge Gary Clark Jr. fans.... and we were very much looking forward to the show, but two out of the last three shows we have seen at the Oakdale have had poor sound quality. The Opening act "Sisterhood" were excellent , and the overall mix and vocals sounded great, but we could barely make out anything Gary Clark was saying or singing. Gary and his band were tight, great dynamics and they played an excellent mix of songs.... Just very disappointed in the sound mix... vocals were buried, and we think his voice is great...it's just too bad we could not hear it very well..

  • Just no words..

Let me start off by saying that this is my third time seeing Gary Clark Jr and he never ceases to amaze. Just an absolutely soul melting experience. Endless guitar solos, killer sets and just great music.

  • Pure Talent

by BeyondAmazed on 9/4/16STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

I am convinced that Gary Clark, Jr. will be one of the greats. His talent is palpable; the music seems to flow through him. He is inventive, versatile, and evocative with his voice and his guitar. Blown away. Heard him in concert a couple of years ago, and was thrilled to see how he has stretched, especially in his relatedness not only to the music but also to the audience. You must see him live!

  • Gary Clark RAWKED THE HOUSE!!

by AcidRayn on 9/3/16Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

2-1/2 hours of pure rock. Down and dirty. Zap was on point!!

  • Gary Clark Jr thrills again!

    by DPF1 on 9/2/16STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Gary previously at some of the best midsized venues including the 9:30 Club in DC. This show, and venue, compared extremely well. He is the consummate blues guitarist of our time in the mold of BB King, Albert King, and Robert Johnson! The sound and sight lines at Stage AE were terrific. It was great to see the varied generations represented at the show, although I wish all fans would put down the electronics and bask in the music.

  • Dude you need to see him to understand

by Rhycjmfdbkrxkueqsc on 9/2/16STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

He blew the roof off the place. Hour long encore. He's my hero

  • Great Guitar Player But Needs Better Show

by BayouBlues on 8/5/16Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

His hardcore fans were thrilled but guitar virtuoso GCJ's show lacked in energy. All songs sounded alike and much to my dismay I became bored. I had really been looking forward to this show, expecting to hear exciting Texas Blues. Think Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland or Stevie Ray Vaughn. GCJ's 4-piece band kept it basic and it quickly became monotone. I was especially surprised that drummer Johnny Radelat who lists Sheila E. and Zigaboo Modaliste among people he loves, showed up with such a minimal drum set. This show needs a more energized rhythm section (think Zigaboo with the Meters or Omar Hakim or the great, late Soko Richardson who did wonders for John Mayall and Albert Collins together with bass player Johnny B. Gayden). Gary did not seem to have much fun, neither. The band did not interact much with each other, Gary barely moved from his spot and his wide-brimmed hat acted as a barrier to the audience. His guitar skills are amazing but his show skills leave a lot of room for growth. I am not the only one who felt this way. Lots of people left before the encore.

  • WOW # 2 !!

by gsparky on 8/5/16Humphreys' By The Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Is by far one of the best guitarist of our generation. The fact that he can also write and sing his own songs at such a high level is mind blowing. This show was shorter than last nights show...but still off the charts. If you have a chance to see him especially if he is the headliner GO!. I hope to see him again soon!

  • WOW!!

by gsparky on 8/5/16Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen Gary Clark Jr over 20 times it always gets better. Tonight he played for 2 1/2 hours of mind blowing riffs. I can't express how great it is to see him live. I will see him again ANY chance I have

  • Still great, but....

by PSUJunglist on 8/5/16Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to quite a few Gary Clark Jr. shows over the past ten years, ranging from nightclubs like Antone's in Austin and large venues like The Greek Theatre in Hollywood. The guy is phenomenal. His stage presence continues to flourish and his playing has steadily improved. My only issue is the change in crowds who come to his shows, mainly the Chatty Kathy's. The last two shows that I went to of his were full of talkers. Every time GCJR tried to play a solo, people decided it would be a good time to try and yell over the music. I guess I don't understand why people would pay good money to see a great artist and talk the whole time. Regardless, GCJR still gets 5 stars, but people...save the chatter for intermission or after the song. End of rant.

  • Uninspired and Terrible Lighting

by Lutjens on 8/5/16Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

While Gary Clark Jr. is an amazing Blues Guitarist and very good singer, I felt that there was no fire in the performance. Also, I had expected some kind of thematic ties to the 'The Story of Sonny Boy Slim' title of the tour and there was nothing of the sort noted. If you want to hear Gary Clark Jr on fire and in top form check out the Double LIVE CD. When I go to a concert I want to SEE THE ARTISTS AND NOT BE BLINDED BY LED LIGHTING being projected out from behind the artists. If I had not had a ball cap on to screen the offensive lighting I would have left the concert. Even during the few times that Gary was up front and shredding, sans the blinding backlights, there was no frontal illumination of him. Going forward I'll save $ and enjoy the Gary Clark Jr LIVE Double CD.

One of the best concerts I've seen in a long time! Gary is a phenomenal blues and funk guitarist. If you like his style of music he is a must see!

  • Amazing show!

Gary Clark is an amazing musician and singer. Love his style of music. He even brought out Micki Free to play with him.

  • Gary Clark Jr was absolutely amazing!

by DDFW on 4/5/16Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

I had seen him open for Kings of Leon the last time they came into town and he was good but as he was the opener was limited. I was anticipating a different show this time and this exceeded my expectations in a huge way. He and his band were outstanding. My wife said he was the best guitarist she had ever seen. This is big praise as we had front row seats for Claption/Winwood in Omaha several years back. I was blown away....

  • WOW

by suelive on 4/4/16Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark Jr. exceeded my already-high expectations. First time I have seen him perform.

  • Disappointing

    by Robdoc99 on 4/4/16Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 1 out of 5

To begin with, I expected more from the venue. The Uptown Theater is dingy and old feeling, and not in an "It's really got character" sort of way. The warm-up band started late. I never did catch her name due to the pretty poor acoustics in the venue, but she was a good enough singer with some solid help behind her. But the material was dull and unoriginal. Just like every other old-time country song you've ever heard. The headliner didn't hit the stage until after 9:30--pretty late for a Thursday night when the tickets say 8:00. Two guitars, drummer and bass with only one vocalist left the audience with one stripped-down song after another. Clark made little attempt to engage the audience. Play a tune, change guitars, play the next tune, etc. And many of the tunes seemed to be one interesting musical idea beat to death for five minutes or so. Overall, wish I'd stayed home and saved the money.

  • Powerful Guitar Rhythm ignites crowd!

by TSontheGo on 4/4/16Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark Jr. lets his guitar do all the talking. He looks pretty ordinary until his starts to play, then he transforms into Jimmy Hendrix. The crowd catches fire! Gary Clark Jr. brings an evening of powerful guitar riffs and blues rhythms that move the feet and stir the soul. Highly recommend this amazing musician.

  • Guitar master

by Samtwain on 4/3/16Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I've ever attended and one of the three best guitarists I've ever heard in person. The other two? Jimi Hendrix and Pat Metheny. Enough said.
