About Garden Brothers Circus

Garden Brothers Circus on Tour

You don’t become North America’s longest-running circus troupe by resting on your laurels, and for its 2021 extravaganza, the Garden Brothers Circus stages its most extreme, over-the-top show ever. Garden Brothers Nuclear Circus: Humans Gone Wild features such breathtaking feats as the “Human Slingshot,” “Motorcycles in the Sphere of Fear,” and the infamous “Wheel of Death” (a massive, vertically rotating structure on which acrobats perform death-defying stunts). But it’s not just humans going wild in this show - the Olate Performing Dogs (as seen on America’s Got Talent) will also make an appearance. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Garden Brothers Circus without such classic carnival attractions as jugglers, trapeze artists and a demonstration from the world’s strongest man. Bring the kids early to meet the performers, get face-painted like a superhero and take a ride down the Monster Slide.

Garden Brothers Background

America had the Ringling Bros., and Canada had the Garden Brothers. Both began as small family businesses before setting the gold standard for big-top entertainment in the 20th century. But with the Ringlings’ circus leaving town for good in 2017, the Garden Brothers now stand as North America’s longest-running carnival revue. Its roots date back to the 1920s, when Scottish emigré William Garden and his wife Jean began touring as a song-and-dance act called Garden & Shaw, sowing the seeds for the official launch of the Garden Bros. Circus in 1938. After William passed away in 1954, his Montreal-based sons Ian and Bill assumed control of the operation and turned it into a touring juggernaut, with Ian playing double duty as animal trainer and ringmaster, while his wife Micheline oversaw the technical aspects. After three successful decades at the helm, the couple passed down the reins to their children Richard and Ian Jr., who eventually handed them off to a cousin, ensuring that the Garden Bros. Circus has remained in the family after a century of spectacles.

We took our nearly 10 year old daughter to her first circus ever (caught off guard when Ringling bowed out) and she was thrilled with the one-ring circus (never having witnessed the larger variety). Clowns set her into fits of giggles that rang from the back of the car until she fell asleep. The men acrobats wowed all of us and the elephants, camels and ponies thrilled her all the way through and watching the elephants try to pick pocket the trainer of extra peanuts brought on more fits of laughter. Great price for a small top and thanks to all the performers who are remarkable in each of their gifts.

  • Get rid of the animals

Love the circus and brought the kiddos to see the elephants. However, upon arrival, I can't imagine a less-happy-seeming group of animals. NOT saying they're mistreated in any way, but that part of the show could easily go -- the acrobats, clowns, motorcyclists, etc., were very enjoyable and it was a great show. On a lesser note, even if the animals stay, there's no reason to have camel rides, elephant rides, etc., anymore. I know it's a big moneymaker for the Garden Bros., but that's not what animals do. Go to the Zoo for animals, and maybe the circus will go animal free. I probably won't go to another with animals.

  • Overshot expectations

Took my 5 year old grand daughter to her first circus. Based on the price and some of the reviews I was not optimistic it was going to be much but not many options left ... especially with elephants! Got there a little early and she got her face painted and grabbed a sno-cone with a cool lighted glass to take-home. Those were a little pricey but given cost of admission reasonable. Each act either had us both laughing or gripping our seats. The under two hour time frame was perfect. We had a terrific time!

I really enjoyed myself but it would been much nicer if we had some personal space in there. VIP seats are too close to together. I loved the cushion in the seats.

Was a great show. Not too long so my kids never lost interest. Not too crowded so it was comfortable. Loved the elephants, gymnasts and bikes, my kids loved the clowns and jugglers and seeing all the animals. Great experience.

  • Fun and Enjoyable

by TallBean on 6/13/17Baxter Arena - OmahaRating: 4 out of 5

The show was fast moving with a variety of different performances. They had clowns, acrobats, live animals, and motorcycle stunts. Our family enjoyed it all. Plus there were activities and animal rides during intermission for the kids.

  • good show

by shirbert on 6/13/17Baxter Arena - OmahaRating: 3 out of 5

The show was pretty good, I would of liked to see more animals & clowns, my granddaughter liked it. It needed to have more action packed things, more kid stuff. It was not like the circus used to be when my sons were little. The items on the floor to play in and ride on were expensive. She did the bounce house and she loved it. They need to beef up the show before next year. The different sand items were really good, that was a lot of work.

the whole show from start to finish was just incredible.

  • Kids loved it.

My 14 and 10 year old boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The acrobats were amazing and our favorite. Not as big of a circus as the Shrine Circus. But a good one to see as the Shrine Circus is no longer performing. My boys want to go again next year.

Too expensive, and not enough animal acts (only elephants and camels, no tiger or lions)

  • Awesome

It was a smaller circus but we thoroughly enjoyed it. They did a great job and every aspect of a larger circus was there.

  • Such a fun circus

by Anonymous on 3/27/17The Santander Arena - ReadingRating: 5 out of 5

The Garden Brothers Circus was a perfect circus. We took our 17 month old and 5 year old. The best part of the circus was that it had 'acts' instead of a 'theme' like the big circus ( that is no longer in business) had. Garden Brothers had magician, animal acts, acrobats, daredevils acts and clowns that were so funny that the 5 year old laughed until his sides hurt! We loved the animals! For those who are haters about animals, these animals looked good, well cared for and most importantly they willingly performed their jobs. We opted for ringside seats. The extra cost was well worth it. the 17 mo old was engaged and entertained, the 5 yo felt he was part of the action rather than just in the grandstand. I highly recommend this circus for children of all ages .

  • Definetely not going again

A bad experience. I understand they were trying to make as much money as thy could, but 1. kids were bored for the most part 2. acrobats looked like they had only one practice before the show 3. show was longer than we were told, because the beak in the middle of the show was way too long 4.cotton candy sellers were walking with such long poles between rows constantly that kids couldn't see much. 5. clowns were funny

  • It was fun!

    I have a 12yo, 7yo, 4yo & 2yo. All enjoyed it & laughed at the clowns.

  • Too much of a money pitt!

by ericaasmithh on 3/14/17Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Winston SalemRating: 3 out of 5

I read reviews on this event before going but, decided to go anyway! I thought the actual acts were great but there was too much going on around that they wanted you to spend money on. The prices for train rides, bouncy houses and face paintings are ridiculous not to mention the over priced toys, cotton candy and snow cones that they wave in your face and children's faces during the show. I ended up spending $12 for 2 children to ride the train and $20 on 2 snowcones, and $12 for a drink and nachos from concessions. Not to mention the $36 to get in and the $8 for parking. The Garden Bros circus is over priced but entertainment was good.

  • Great Time

    by Steven2GardenBros on 3/11/17Indoor Circus - Winston SalemRating: 5 out of 5

Drove 5 hours to see the Garden Bros Circus and sat in the B section VIP. Great seats and we recommend the VIP section. It was amazing and had the best time. We were right there at all the action and the wife even rode the camel and elephant! The clowns were more like comedians and they were funny, the acrobats were amazing, motor cycle riders were fantastic and the magic show was professional. The animals were our favorite but all the acts made it a wonderful time. Thank you so much to all the workers and entertainers for such a great time!
