About

Fantasy football is supposed to provide an outlet for good-natured competition and camaraderie between friends and colleagues, but that's not always the case. In FX's comedy series, The League, deception, one-upmanship and a win-at-all-costs mentality rule the day on the virtual gridiron and then extend into personal relationships, marriages and the workplace.

The League was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia,

Eurotrip) who serve as executive producers and directors. The series is produced by FX Productions.

The premise of FX's The League-five male friends who bond over a fantasy football league seems to promise an endless parade of bro-tastic humor and fart jokes, not to mention references that would fly over the head of anyone who hasn't spent a Sunday afternoon worrying over the tiniest of NFL statistics. Thankfully, the show's loose comedic vibe and ensemble of gawky funnymen just short of their big break doesn't allow The League to devolve into a primordial ooze of Axe Body Spray, Doritos, and Peyton Manning's passing yardage. Four of those comedians - man of a million grating-yet-hilarious characters Nick Kroll; Human Giant's Paul Scheer; Internet sensation Jon Lajoie; and spiky-haired anecdotalist Stephen Rannazzisi - appear here to promote the show's upcoming second season, if not to give their individual laugh stats a little boost as well.

    Bang, Bang, What's the Hang?

So, first off you would enjoy this show if you don't watch The League on FX, but to get the most out of it, it would be best if you like the show. The show consisted of four of the main cast members doing an opening with audience participation and then each doing a stand up routine and then ending with more audience participation. They even showed some choice clips from the upcoming season. They are all very funny guys in their own right, but you can tell that some of them are a little rusty or they're new at the stand up game, but it was still pretty entertaining. I think they were blessed that there weren't a lot of hecklers at the show that night though. The guy who plays Kevin on the show was a step above the rest and he seemed very confident and he did very well. Taco also seemed in his element when performing songs, but when it came to talking to the crowd he's more reserved and added a slow jab now and then.

    Hilarious!

This show was amazing! I'm a huge fan of the show, but I wasnt quite sure what to expect with the live version. I definitly wasn't dissapointed. They started off by taking some questions from the audience about fantasy football and then showed a special premiere of the season. Then all four actors (the guy who plays Pete wasnt there) had their own comedy routine, which was hilarious! I hadnt laughed that hard in a long time! They concluded by taking some more questions about the show. Their interactions with the audience were funny and really couldnt stop laughing.

The guys were very funny and did some initial banter together and then each one did stand-up. Can't wait for the new season!

    Hilarious stand-up!

by SpudLauncher on 10/7/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

The show was absolutely hilarious! It wasn't a live episode like we originally thought. It was a 4 person stand-up (one at a time), but it was still worth it. Very funny show and cool to see most of the cast.

Great Show! stand up was killer, had me rolling

Such a great job by these guys. From the get go they let the fans know they werent fake people from a tv show (people screaming ruxin and taco were shot down by simple "ya i play that character"), def set the tone for the night. They handled the crowd in what became a fusion of the always sunny tour and Charlie Sheens warlock tour, taking the best of each and putting their own spin on it. Loved the stand ups, dont know how long each ran but they kept it about the same for each. Theyre def just promoting the new season but its a good group that put on a very entertaining show. Well worth the 30$

League stand-up performance was absolutely hilarious!!! Even better than the TV show! Only small downside was the Q&A portion at the end which was a bit unstructured.

The night was great. Funny, interesting and made me love the show even more, which I didn't think was possible.
