I have attended the funkfest for the last few years at the Greek. This one was much better than the one last year. On the whole, it was well-organized. Keeping the same instruments on the stage for the first four bands made a huge difference, and also allowing the bands to perform for 30-45 minutes, rather than forcing them into an hour long set was a big improvement. My favorite, of course, was Morris Day, but I really did enjoy all of the other performers, as well. It was nice to see Klymaxx back after so many years. Kitty looked a little unsteady on her feet, but she could still sing. In the past, they have had a dj set up in the corner to play music in between sets. I missed that. This crowd is usually totally into old school R&B and they love to all stand up and sing along with the songs, but they didn't have the music in between this time around. The Greek is a beautiful venue. Can't beat the feeling of being outdoors, but also in an intimate setting at the same time. For the most part, the crowd is fun. There were a few scary moments...some members of the audience were a little angry, even at the beginning. I had the same experience last year. The "angry crowd" tend to congregate around the North side. As long as you stay on the South, it is fine. Staff were very helpful. I'm looking forward to the next Funkfest!
