Strictly for child and preteen FROZEN movie fans
by Silverlaker2 on 4/6/18St. James Theatre - New YorkKids and preteens squealed and cheered. But I am an adult who goes to the theatre often, and the script for this show was embarrassing — certainly not Broadway caliber. Thankfully the actors playing the leading roles are strong singers and have engaging personalities. But I was left unmoved — the deafeningly loud sound and the sketchy story line that wavered from sentimental to goofy didn’t allow for any genuine feelings. I would have rated it lower except the lighting effects were spectacular. Note that there is a vulgar, Mel Brooks type of number at the start of the second act that may make adults who brought small children feel squeamish. Overall this was like a Disney theme park show except with stronger pro actors and more expensive effects. For the same cost of these tickets, you could fly your family to Disney World and have an entire day of entertainment. Sight lines in the St James theatre are excellent from all locations. No need to pay for premium seats — in fact, sitting further away gives a better view of the stage effects, and the acting is so exaggerated that you don’t need to be close. Note that the mezzanine has good views but very cramped leg room. For little kids, extra seat cushions are provided.
