    Incredible night at the Opera!

by JLEO55 on 6/26/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

This was a truly unique experience. First of all the Civic Opera House is an incredible venue and it was great to finally have a reason to come down and check it out. The lobby environment was set up really well with a DJ and a some interesting photo booths that to free motion capture "selfies" that you could send to yourself. The show itself was incredible, a really interesting mix of breakdance and classical movement. I didn't realize there was an underlining story, but this actually added a bit of drama and depth to the show I wasn't expecting. Some of the movements and breakdancing were so insane that the crowd literally starts cheering throughout the performance! My only complaint was that I wish it was a bit longer. But all in all a great event and I definitely recommend to any audience. For those with really small kids (under 3) some parts might be lost on them and the show is a bit loud.

Flying high with Red Bull Flying Bach

by Dreadrave on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

A crazy twist on classical music! Definitely not what your mind would expect. The choreography was great, and the show even had some hilarious comedic moments. For an opera theater the Civic Opera House has a booming sound system for the electronic interludes.

    Unbelievable!

by AMK2014 on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

What a great event---with my classical piano background and my lack of knowledge of breakdancing-I was completely blown away by the performance. Wild, invigorating, off the charts great!!!!!!!! Everyone should see this show at least once!!! Great for young, old, music snobs and street dancers!!

    Excellent Dancers, poorly done

by ILDave on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

The dancers were phenomenal, but the choreography was poor. The piano player was charming but mediocre. There were a few moments where the choreography and the music were worth watching, but for the most part it was a showcase of individual dancers excelling and wowing. There were a couple parts where they showed filmed dancers in slow motion, and these parts were overly long and extremely boring.

    Disappointing letdown!!!

by BeReal2 on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

When I saw the commercials on TV, I thought this was going to be a spectacular show. I was greatly disappointed. Granted, they were a skillful bunch and some moves were of high technical difficulty. However, the overall dance performance was amateurish. The group steps weren't in sync, and they kept repeating the same moves over and over. I actually overheard a perfect analogy from another audience member while leaving. He said that he, "felt like (he) was watching a live version of X Factor.

    red bull flying bach

by anon78 on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

Performers were great. Too much dead time with the lone ballerina. I know the ballerina is there to give the other members a rest. Their performances must be very taxing. If they would have more members in the troop they could eliminate the ballerina and keep the show going on a higher level. Would have liked to see more popping and locking.

    pretty good

by chicagocajun on 6/25/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

I was interested in the concept of break dancing and the music of Bach. I didn't realize that there was going to be a "story line" to the show and that there was going to be so much modern dance. I did not enjoy the modern dance segments. There was an entire song where images were projected on to a screen. I found these segments very boring. The event bills it self as break dancing meets Bach. The show is 70 minutes and there seems to be about 20 minutes of break dancing. I found the transitions awkward. The show was good and the break dancing was amazing. I was expecting a whole show of break dancing. I would not go again or recommend this show.

I thought it was going to be more than one group performing, it felt like a first year college recital that was a tad bit confusing regarding the plot.

The pre event was amazing. But I started to feel sick right before the show started so we had to leave, so I am unable to review the show. Hopefully next time this show comes back we can try to see it.

The Flying Steps know how to put on a show!

It was my first time at a Red Bull event and first time at the Civic Opera House in downtown Chicago. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The blending of classical music and urban dance was unlike anything I've ever seen. The show was top notch and I'd highly recommend anyone who likes dance shows to go and watch this!

    Check it out

by RFRob on 6/24/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

Excellent, excellent musicians and dancers. One of the dancers was injured and could not perform, and there was no understudy to replace him, so the choreography was noticeably off with an odd number of dancers performing the paired sequences. The performance is about 70 minutes, which is somewhat short given the pretty steep ticket prices. I understand how physically demanding the dancing is; I just didn't want it to end.

Flying Bach for a good time

by kkasi on 6/23/14Civic Opera House - Chicago

The Lyric Opera House was filled with a mix of the well-dressed opera goers and more casual dance enthusiasts. A piano, a harpsichord, and occasional recorded Bach with a beat were the audio and an attractive group of talented young dancers were the visual. One female dancer with a contemporary repertoire was underutilized. I could have watched her dance all night. The group of young men thrilled with head spins, leaps, kicking spins, and other choreographed moves. This is the kind of stuff you can find on street corners in questionable neighborhoods, but with difference music, All in all, it was a very good show.
