About

University of Florida Gators Football at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

The University of Florida has a football team it can be proud to call its own in the Florida Gators. Florida competes in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference, and they're coached by Dan Mullen, who led the Gators to a 10-3 record, a Peach Bowl victory and a Top 10 finish in his first season in 2018. The Gators play at what is officially known as Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — far more commonly known as "The Swamp." Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was originally built in 1930, and renovations have increased its capacity to 88,548, growing with the team over the decades.

Florida Gators Football History

The University of Florida has continuously fielded a football team since its inception in 1906, with the notable exception of the 1943 season due to the outbreak of World War II. As charter members of the Southeastern Conference in 1932, the Florida Gators have long-standing rivalries against such schools as Auburn, LSU and Tennessee. The Gators have won three national titles (in 1996, 2006 and 2008) in addition to eight SEC titles and 16 divisional titles since 1991. Three quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy for the Gators, including future legendary Florida coach Steve Spurrier in 1966, Danny Wuerffel in 1996 and Tim Tebow in 2007.

The Florida Gators have intense rivalries against in-state non-conference schools Florida State and the University of Miami, along with other schools in the SEC, but their archnemeses are the University of Georgia's Bulldogs, who face Florida annually at Jacksonville's TIAA Bank Field. The Florida-Georgia rivalry is so bitter that neither school can agree on when it started, with Georgia contending that a game played against a predecessor in 1904 was the beginning, and Florida stating that the two schools first officially met in 1915. Florida-Georgia is one of the few remaining neutral site rivalry games in college football, and with divisional, conference and national title hopes often hanging in the balance, it remains one of the most important rivalries in the sport.

After waiting over 40 minutes to get into the venue; I was advised that my mobile tickets would not scan. I then had to walk all the way around the venue to the box office. However; the personal at the box office was very helpful. The box office had to print the tickets. I then had to go back in line to get into the building.

The wait and the hot dogs at the concession stand we’re terr

by P&B on 10/18/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

My grandson and I left 5 minutes before halftime to get hotdogs and a drink. We did not return until mid third quarter because the line was so long and so slow. The hotdogs were luke warm and not tasty. Sams Club has better and bigger hotdogs and a soda for $1.50. We paid 24.00 for four hotdogs.

    Great game

by Naty on 10/15/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

My friends and I had a ton of fun at the game. The electronic tickets were easy to use. I do wish ticketmaster would allow someone to buy more than 4 tickets per person because we had a big group and it was inconvenient to split up the group and buy tickets separately. That plus the rule that you can't leave a single seat in a row, made choosing seats more difficult than it needed to be.

Great game but students need to not stand on bleachers

by S. P. on 10/12/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

The game was a lot of fun. The stadium is amazing. Unfortunately, some Florida Gator students stood on the bleacher seats blocking the view of anyone behind them. The people behind them asked rather politely for them to not stand on the seats, but they refused. A whole section of people could not see the game. There were students who didn't even have seats in that section. Some people just left and probably went somewhere else as they couldn't even sit in their own seats. As far as the game, you can't beat the atmosphere, band and entertainment!

    Awesome Time!

by Jtfab5 on 10/12/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

Great time and super fun environment. Crowd is awesome and bathrooms are super clean. Food is overpriced for what you get and they need a better system to have people wait in lines without blocking the whole hallway.

    Great venue

by L. H. on 10/11/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

Other than the Apple wallet tix not working and thus having To download the scanned version from the website, the overall experience was great! Stadium was really nice and the staff surprisingly friendly for a college game. Everyone was nice! Stadium food was average/typical. They served beer and High Noons, which was a bonus :) Overall a great trip to UF.

by Shirley on 10/5/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

My husband bought us the tickets then sent them to me via email. I accepted them then they went into my Events folder till game day when I pulled them out for ticket taker to scan. Hardly any effort at all. We had a fabulous sunny day after a few rough days with Hurricane IAN.

    Awesome game and great seats

by Beerman on 9/20/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

Seats were near 50 yard line row 14 so close to the action on the field and sidelines. Weird that they sell beer now at the Swamp, would have been awesome to have had that when I was a student :-) Gators pulled it off in the end 31-28 and the game tying field goal missed, woohoo. Go Gators!!!

    Somebody got whooped last night.

by Yogi1966 on 9/14/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

Somebody got whooped last night. I had a seat in the middle of the Kentucky section. It was perfect and the game wasn’t bad either.

Alcohol not needed at Gator Games

by Kc on 9/14/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

I have been going to Gator Games for along time. We experienced so many drunk people arguing with sober people in the stand. The drinks were loud, cussing, and being so disrespectful. We had our 3 small kids with us and paid a good amount of money to have our kids subjected to awlful behavior from drunks. I do not know why they have to sell alcohol (well I know it makes lots of money) when they went years and years without selling it at games. It was by first time bringing all my kids the games and was very disappointed.

    TV Timeout effects

by Gator Mike on 9/14/22Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - Gainesville

Great to see the big crowd cheering the Gators on... The multiple 3:30 minute timeouts (some repeated within the same series) slowed the game down and the crowd noise level. The Gator video/entertainment team needs a better play list of upbeat music to keep everyone going during the 3:30 plus minute TV pauses. Kentucky played a good game but the Gators gave away 14 points and had 3 or 4 opportunities to pull away or get back into the game during the 4th quarter and fell short... Sad day for the Gators...
