About

Florence and the Machine in Concert

There’s a reason why South London musicians Florence Welch and Isabella “The Machine” Summers, a.k.a. Florence and the Machine, have filled stadiums, amphitheaters, and concert halls worldwide to max capacity. Ask any fan and they’ll tell you that their lush, genre-defying indie art rock sounds even better live than on their multi award-winning studio albums. Indeed, their reputation for putting on phenomenal shows has fans eagerly anticipating tour dates and pouncing on tickets as soon as they’re available. Why such devotion? Florence’s energetic, fiery stage presence matches her signature crimson tresses, adding that much more drama to such orchestral gems as “Cosmic Love,” “Dog Days Are Over,” “No Light, No Light,” “Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up)”—just to name a few. What’s more, their artful, literary lyrics, soaring vocals, and theatrical concerts have caused critics to draw comparisons to Kate Bush and Siouxsie and the Banshees. However, despite their old school appeal, their style is fresh enough to attract fans of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Beyoncé (who also counts herself as a hug Florence fan).

Hands down one of the best gig's I've been to, and that's quite a few. I saw her in Glastonbury last year and it was epic. Florence got even better and her band's awesome. Her stage presence and vocals never fail to amaze me. She reminds me of Kate Bush. And I absolutely adore Kate Bush. Touching Florence just made my night, she went crowdsurfing. Tom Monger the harp player deserves 10 pints of beer. He was bloody amazing. Mad skills he's got there.

Amazing show! The lead singer was so cute and charming when she talked to the audience and yet so energetic and arty when she was singing. Loved the way she made the audience jump with her in the end. Go see Florence and the Machine!!

    FLORENCE IS BEWITCHING!

by iwantacat on 4/16/10Showbox at the Market - Seattle

the concert was amazing! Florence has such an engaging energy that makes you stand there in awe. There were a few really talllll people standing in front though, and that was kind of annoying. Maybe Showbox should slope the standing area a bit so everyone can see a bit better?

Wow. Florence, and the Machine for that matter, are the most amazing group I have seen perform in a long time. I would highly recommend seeing them as soon as possible.

    A force of nature.

by DShaft on 4/16/10Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Florence has an almost supernatural power in her voice, and to watch her sing is to reestablish a primal sense of wonder. Rara Avis. Her and her band deserve the widest of audiences, and I feel privileged to have witnessed their talent, power, and grace.

    Florence and the Machine, Amazing!

by undercovermom99 on 4/16/10Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Excellent show! Florence has a voice that was, strong, beautiful, flexible and easily rose above the dubious sound capabilities of the Show Box. Her band was spot on. She has great stage presence and interacted with the audience, at one point putting her leg on the barrier and reaching out to touch the audiences hands. Even my 13 year old daughter had an amazing time. Definitely will see her next time she comes around!!!

    Gotta See Her!

    by jboy21047 on 4/16/10Terminal 5 - New York

I got hooked on Florence almost a year ago when I heard her first single. She is an amazing performer with a beautifully strong and hypnotizing voice. Seeing her in person at a small venue is an experience I won't forget. She really electrifies the crowd and shows what a true performer can do to an audience.

    Florence was fantastic!

    by AllisonB24 on 4/12/10Terminal 5 - New York

We got there a few mins after the doors opened and managed to get a spot close to the stage! We were like 3 feet from Florence, which was awesome! She really projects a sense that she loves what she's doing, she seems very genuine and sounds fantastic live (like the album but better!). Her costume was very cool--she looked like a mythical creature! My boyfriend and I had a great time and left with grins pasted to our faces. Go Florence--can't wait for the next album.

Having never seen Florence and the Machine and being a new artist the expectations were low for her overall performance and ability to capture the audience. However, as she walked out to the stage the audience was immediately mesmerized by her beauty and confidence. She owned that stage. She started the night off with "Howl", which was a great way to captivate and draw in the audience. After that first song, the entire crowd was hooked and wanted more. Her stage version of "Drumming" was absolutely stunning and unforgettable. The music behind all of her music is so melodic and beautiful that is difficult not to love every song already. However, her lyrics and amazing stage presence create such a fantastic atmosphere and mixture that the entire show was illuminating and wonderful. She was by far one of the best leading women performers I have seen in a long time. I absolutely would go see her again and cannot wait for new material!

    Way too short

    by Lizzy232 on 4/12/10Terminal 5 - New York

That was the shortest show I've been to in NYC. The band was excellent, but they played for just over an hour! Very, very disappointing.
