FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

  • Bands Great, Balboa needs to upgrade sound system

by keySD on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Fitz & the Tantrums and Mayer Hawthorne were both absolutely outstanding. Love the vocals, the energy and the talent of the musicians. Unfortunately, the sound system at the Balboa seems to need some upgrades. Despite the inviting venue, the sound was a bit distorted.

  • Fitz and The Tantrums worked the crowd 2 a frenzy!

by bohodreamgirl on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The Head and The Heart and Mayer Hawthorne were the perfect predule to a FITZ!!!!!!! This is the 10th time I have seen Fitz this year!!! They NEVER disappoint!!!!! Young, old and in between dance the entire time!!!! Everyone was dancing with everyone having an absolute BLAST!!!!!

  • All 3 acts rocked it!

by rburcham on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great show in an awesome theater. All 3 bands were incredible. If you ever have the chance to see Fitz & The Tantrums DO IT! They are a great live band.

  • Toooo Loud...poor sound mix....

by CrashSymbol on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

I had great seats...row G...right in the middle. Great artists, but the sound quality sucked big time. It was way too loud and the mix had the vocals way under all other sources. i.e. you could not hear the vocals well. I moved around the theater trying to find a better sound mix, but it was worse under the mezzanine and just as bad in the balcony. Too bad, as I had to leave during the Fitz set cause I COULDN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fitz and the Tantrums... best show in a long time!

    by Yvette91601 on 11/29/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I go to a LOT of concerts. At least two or three every week. I first heard of Fitz when I lived in Los Angeles from a friend; loved them so much I drove to Santa Barbara to catch them at the Velvet Jones. I was instantly hooked. I came home (to Ohio) and heard Fitz would be playing at Newport. I HAD to go, got a ticket for my mom and i, and before I knew it, the show was sold out. This band is so refreshing; class act for sure! So tasteful, music for all ages, great energy, and they draw an amazing, interactive crowd. Such a positive and fun show, you will not leave this concert without a smile on your face! Fitz and the Tantrums are a MUST see; they go back to real entertainment. It's literally the crowd, FATT, lights, and the music. There are so cover-ups, no videos, or over the top tricks.... just plain out good, classic entertainment! The band are such nice people too- make sure you stay 10 minutes after the show and meet them!

  • FATT is awesome!

by KCheyenne on 11/22/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was awesome. Just enough to make it awesome but not too many. Great seats (or standing room) regardless of where you were. FATT had an awesome, high energy performance. I enjoyed that they actually came out for autographs and photos with the fans! Amazing! :)

  • LOVED Fitz and the Tantrums!

by Floorboards on 11/21/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

High energy, great sound, well-known Fitz tunes and few new ones - all great. Capped off the evening with a great cover of Sweet Dreams. Flute solo was jarring but every other instrumental was excellent.

it ROCKED!!!!! can't wait for them and Walk the Moon to come back!

  • by Anonymous on 11/20/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I had never heard of F&TT before... we went to see the opening band Walk the Moon, but the Tantrums were FANTASTIC. Loved their stage presence. Proof that a good bass player = good band. Blew my face off.

  • Incredible, Unforgettable-- GO SEE!!!

by NatJO on 11/20/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was fantastic! The band was interactive and gave such an enthusiastic performance. They also stayed after the show and met with every single fan that waited. I got pictures with the band as well as my poster and vinyl signed. Go see it. They're top notch. Favorite part: During the encore they played Moneygrabber and they stopped it and made everyone "get low" then they started playing and we all exploded and jumped up and down the rest of the song. Priceless.

  • Fabulous Fitz & the Tantrums show!

Concert was really fab! Band even hung after and signed autographs and took pics with the fans! They were super cool! This was my second time seeing them and I can't wait to see them again. Can't wait for them to make another album.

this concert was ineffable! purely amazing! i love that they stayed around to personally meet each fan that was willing to wait around. they are very personable and i will forever be a loyal member of their fanbase because, of not just how incredible their music is and their incredible motivation on stage, but because they appreciate their fans like no other band! i loved the concert.. 2nd time i saw them and it will not be the last. you are missing out if you dont see them

by MegKess on 11/20/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I've ever been to!! There was so much energy from the band and they gave an extreme amount of love to the crowd!! I will never forget meeting Noelle!! Everyone should see them live, it's an amazing experience!!

  • Fitz and The Tantrums

by rockinmary on 11/20/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show. They are first and foremost truly talented musicians. Fitz can sing and groove; Noelle does just as well. Dave King is awesome on the sax. Saw them in CHicago this summer; they were amazing-really played to the crowd. So nice of them to come and meet their fans after the show--takin their time. An inspiration to all who are thinking about a music career.

  • LOVED FITZ!!

by shooch on 11/18/11St. Andrews Hall - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Fitz & The Tantrums Wednesday night in Detroit and all that I can say is WOW! We had SUCH a great time. I love their music, but I really loved them live. They are SO high energy that it is completely contagious. Awesome, awesome show. Thanks guys (and girl)! We loved it!

  • Fitz = instant dance party!

    by dancedmyheartout on 11/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen Fitz now twice and even though their set list doesn't vary much (they only have one cd right now), each time they put their hearts into it and it's one of the most fun bands to see in concert in my opinion. They even did a few new songs, which are awesome, and are a good sign for a new album. The second they started playing my feet just couldn't resist dancing! Too bad not as many people around us were as into it as we were, but a few more dance parties broke out on the 2nd tier balcony with us.

  • by Anonymous on 11/14/11The National - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

Great venue and concert. Crowd was an interesting mix of above 50 year old and mid-20s. Still a fun time and awesome music.

  • by Anonymous on 11/14/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

They had a very good opening act and their show was excellent, awesome, fun, etc.
