About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

The whole concert is so high energy, I was dancing the whole time with much of the crowd. They seem like genuine people as well - really appreciative of the fans."

  • Fitz and ZZ were great - sound system needs work

by BluesDoggie on 6/17/12Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Fitz and ZZ Ward put on as good a show as any brand act that has been in Columbus in years. That lineup worked well together. ZZ is going to be a star and Fitz should be a bigger one - they both have phenomenal stage presence and they work it hard.

  • Fantastic Concert!

    by Lara68 on 2/3/12Center Stage - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I have been regular concert goers throughout our 20 year marriage, and I have to say that seeing Fitz & The Tantrums was at the top of our list of best concerts ever. We saw them at the Center Stage venue, which was so much better than going to a huge arena like Philips. Fitz & The Tantrums really transformed the venue into a high energy, fun, dancing time for all. We did not sit down once. They were amazing performers and talked to the crowd. We could tell they were enjoying themselves, and love what they do. We did not want the concert to end, but they did play for a good two hours. We will definately go see them again, and next time bring friends with us.

Hats off to WTTS and The Bluebird for pulling off an awesome high energy show. Fitz and company were as everything I expected and then some. Great music at a small venue is always a treat. Michael Fitzgerald is a joy to watch. Added bonus as I became a Scars on 45 fan that night as well. Can't wait to see them again.

Fitz the Tantrums is a highly energetic band. They play their music with such a sense of pride. One can tell the band is happy to be on stage and that is sometimes hard to find in this day in age. As an observer Fitz & the Tantrums draws you in and makes you a part of the show like no other music group I've seen.

They put on an amazing show, complete with every song having a total jam-out session. AMAZING chemistry between the lead singers!

  • KPRI Holiday Soiree was a Holiday Treat

    by azim1195 on 12/7/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Great seats and great show. Lots of talent and energy. Two observations. 1) There was a male usher in the third level balcony that kept bouncing around along the rail and blocking views until asked to stand tucked into the stairwell where the other ushers stand. They can see guests coming up the stairs and use the little flashlights in the covered area without distracting from the show. They can also see the show from there very clearly. Anyway he moved after being asked to at the first intermission. 2) With ear protection, the sound at the top was fine. I had friends in the 10th row under the stage who complained regarding the oppressive sound that they experienced. They both complained of heads related the the volume of sound, for a day and a half. They had no ear protection. I have to wonder why it is so necessary to keep pumping up the volume. It really does detract from the pleasure of an otherwise really enjoyable show. On another note..... Lady's powder rooms were well stocked and clean. (least it seem we are unaccustomed to the ways of sound mixers and volume issues at concerts and other venues, we on average attend three concerts of varying size weekly. I usually observe that all is well then the artist gets a hold of the microphone and keeps requesting the sound "guy" to rise the volume until the artist who is on stage is happy. Sadly he/ she isn't in the audience and exposed to the result. Don't they notice how hard it is for people to stand or sit anywhere in front of speakers that are so ramped up??) Oh well that is off my chest. Happy Holidays!!!

  • Holiday Soiree Rocked!!!

by Anonymous on 12/4/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Mayer Hawthorne and the Fitz & The Tantrums were awesome!! They had the crowd out of their seats and groovin to the beat! They both really outdid themselves!! (Missed the first band, but I am sure they did an incredible job too!)

  • Holiday Soiree

by BuddyLeu on 12/3/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

Love you guys, the bands and relationship you cultivate with your audience. Unfortunately the horrible sound (system, accoustics, engineer?) made the evening a huge disapppointment and such a terrible way to showcase 3 fantastic bands with outstanding voices. Except for the songs I knew, the voices were so muffled, I couldn't understand any lyrics. Sometimes the music seemed completely out of sync with the voices too. Seems that someone tried to make up for the bad sound with volume which only made it worst. I felt terrible that I had convinced 3 friends to waste precious cash to join me. The one salvation of the evening was the positive energy of the bands and the audience trying to make the most of a bad situation. Please don't use this venue again........I certainly wouldn't go there even if it was free. (And the Spreckels is only a bit better). A real fan......... who rarely complains......... but had to do it this time.

  • KPRI Holiday Soiree - High Marks

by Katrinaph on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I had a fablous time at the KPRI Holiday Soiree. While all the artists were great I fell in love with Mayor Hawthorne!!!! I danced the whole time he was onstage (not long enough). Fitz and the Tantrums and Head and the Heart rocked the house as well! Great show - great venue! Hey KPRI - can you do a show just for Mayor Hawthorne???

  • Three great bands!

    by Rockersbornin71 on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Not that often that you can go to a concert and watch 3 bands that could act as headliners individually. My only complaint is that the audio needed adjustment, which seemed to improve during Mayer Hawthorne's performance.

  • Holiday Soiree

by KpriFreeq on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent, Mayer Hawthorne stole the show! What a funky confident guy, to get that crowd up and out of their seats dancing was great to see!

  • Fitz and the Tantrums Rock!!!

by Granuaile on 12/2/11Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

The Holiday Soiree had a great line up of musicians. I must confess that my friend and I primarily purchased tickets to the event to see Fitz and the Tantrums as we have seen them play twice before, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Scripps, and were blown away by their performance both times. Though they gave yet another amazing performance at the Soiree I thought the acoustics were poor and was really disappointed. The sound was so loud that it was distorted and unclear throughout their performance. I love loud music but whoever was in control of it took it to the extreme. During Head and The Heart's performance the bass overwhelmed everything and ruined what was a great performance by the band. Despite all of this, I hope KPRI continues to promote Fitz and the Tantrums and other musicians. You just need to be on top of the technical aspects a bit more.
