About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

The whole concert is so high energy, I was dancing the whole time with much of the crowd. They seem like genuine people as well - really appreciative of the fans."

  • Fitz and the Tantrums is the show to see!

by mbak on 2/12/11Bunkers - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

fitz and the Tantrums is a must see show. The two lead singers have chemistry, energy, great moves and fresh lyrics; they take the audience on a ride that keeps people singing, shouting, dancing and engaged. Think David Byrne with a soulful pop sensibility. The girl is like a ramped up battery with no hint of drugs, just wild abandon and moves that are too good to be true! The band is tight. There is a cool hipness without an an ounce of arrogance - the entire show was a joy!

  • Show of a lifetime at the Newport, Columbus, Ohio

by vascmedRN on 2/2/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The show was completely amazing, and I would venture to say one of the most memorable concerts I have ever attended. Noelle Scaggs came out onto the stage on fire, and even though suffering from laryngitis at the time, you would've never known it had she not mentioned it. Michael Fitzpatrick's voice was velvety and the connection between he an Noelle was undeniable- their voices created a harmonious sultry love affair throughout the show. From the ballad, "Tighter," to the upbeat "L.O.V," I found myself wanting more... After the show, Noelle and Fitz spent time with fans while selling band apparel and albums- They generously autographed albums and took pictures with anyone who asked. You got the impression that they genuinely care about their fan base and realize that their success is in large part determined by the connection they have with those who buy and listen to their music... If you EVER have a chance to see Fitz and the Tantrums, do it- you WON'T regret it!!!

Great music. I enjoyed both Fitz and the Tantrums as well as the Phantods. I might even go see the Phantods this Friday at Lobo.

  • Tantrums were good... Phantods were great

by TheoSchranner on 2/2/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The theatricality of the Tantrums really sets them apart from most other groups. I enjoyed their show. The lead-in band, the Phantods were amazing. I was very impressed with them.

Wow. Fitz (is that actually his name?) puts on one hell of a show. He's a combo of David Byrne and Daryl Hall pumped on caffeine. Great voice and stage presence. Their songs are melodic without sounding the same. Too bad Newport's sound system was lacking Monday....or maybe it was just their sound guy. In any case.....they rocked the house!!

  • sooooooooooo good!

Show was better than I even expected to be. I would absolutely see them again!

  • Best Event of the Year!

by ClaireB on 2/2/11Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

It may have only been 31 days into 2011, but this was the best concert of the year. The opener (Phantods) was pitch perfect, hitting every song note great. Fitz and the Tantrums came out and it was like they were there to party. They brought their A-game to Ohio! They seemed so humbled by the sold out show, bringing out their own cameras to take pictures of the crowd repeatedly. The encore with "Money Grabber" was one of the most fun times I have ever had at a concert. AMAZING SHOW!

  • Welcome to Boston

by SeldomSeenKid on 1/22/11Brighton Music Hall - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What a way to kick off their initial visit to the Hub, and a great way to continue to break in the Brighton, Fitz & the Tantrums rocked the house....The opening act Jordan Valentine and the Sunday Saints started the night off nice with a great performance, they're a local act and I wish them well and great success. The night continued to get better with Fitz & the Tantrums taking the stage, these guys can play ; I've always been fond of the brass; and that guy was on, and the band sounded tight. Fitz and Noelle fronted the band with tremendous energy, its too bad we didn't get the full effect of Noelles' voice, she was battling laryngitis, still they sounded great; Fitz was really giving it his all. The crowd was great and really showed appreciation for them and the band for us; they sang their album, mixed in a cover and a couple songs old and new, the chants of "one more song" led to a impromptu encore, where they sang a newly minted song..... At the end of the show they announced they would like to meet everyone that came out, so they had a informal meet and greet at the back, giving out autographs as well.... Overall experience excellent.....

  • Hooked on Fitz and The Tantrums!

by Joicie on 1/21/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORKRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing, awesome, brillant! I can't say enough about this band. After seeing them on a late night tv program playing Money Grabber, I was hooked. I can't remember the last time I LOVED every single song a band played. They get the crowd going with their own current, yet reto style. Their music is amazing and the lyrics are catchy. (Lyrics we all can relate to). Their music crosses generations and appeals to all. Fitz and Nicole have a good chemistry. I predict that Fitz and The Tantrums will make it big! I can't remember having so much fun at a show. It's rare that y a band produces so many hits. Wow! I can't wait to see them again!

  • Great nite out!

by EchoParkDenizen on 11/20/10El Rey Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The band kept the pace fast except for a couple songs. They did a great job of keeping the crowd moving. They played their entire 1st album and threw in a few new ones on the way which were also quite catchy. Highly recommend checking them out live.

  • Epic!

by HammaHamma on 11/11/10The Crocodile - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz and the Tantrums were absolutely extraordinary! This is not a genre of music that is played much anymore so it was such a thrill to see a young band in their prime knocking this stuff out of the park. The singing was top notch, nearly every word of the lyrics could be heard clearly and the two singers have excellent voices. The band was tight and professional and sounded great. There was not a poor song to the night. You know it's a great band when the cover song in the encore is great, but not as good as their original stuff. There is nothing more damning of a band than to sit through their set unmoved until they pull out a cover in the encore that makes you sit up and take notice - take notice that the cover is a much, much better song. These guys were great, I would see them again in a heartbeat. I drug six friends to the show on the hope they would be as good as their potential and I was not disappointed. Everyone had a great time even though none of the others had ever heard their music before. Catch them next time if you can!
