About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

  • State Theatre perfect for Fitz

by Bearings on 10/29/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Great show by Fitz & The Tantrums. Beat Club was no real substitute for Capital Cities that was at all the other shows. Need better opening group. General Admission doesn't work well in this venue.

  • Fitz and the Tantrums were AMAZING

by BFortz on 10/29/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

My friends and I went to celebrate my 17th birthday and we all had a blast. The music was fabulous, the light show was the coolest, the people at the venue were so nice. I would definitely go to a concert at the State Theater any time!!

  • Amazing... can't help but dance to the music!

    by FATTFan534 on 10/29/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz & the Tantrums is by far the best show ever! No lie! As soon as they hit the stage and strike the first notes, you can't help but find your moving to the beats. They know how to get the crowd moving and participating along with them! Their cover of "Sweet Dreams" is probably the highlight of the show! Fitz and Scaggs have amazing vocals and the band is wicked good!

  • Lots of energy!

by RaRaRobin on 10/29/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

They put on a great show, they had great energy and it was a lot of fun. The only downfall is it was short, but they only have 2 albums so it makes sense. I would see them if you get a chance!

I have liked Capital Cities and Fitz and the Tantrums since I first heard them. They are both even better live. Fun shows, music is great live.

  • Fantastic show!!!

by JWishbone on 10/28/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Great show, tremendous energy from the band. They basically alternated playing one sone from the new album followed by one from the first release. Going into the show, I wasn't a fan of the new album but after hearing the songs live, I had to go back and give it another shot. Great energy between Mike and Noelle, they were playing off each other the whole night which is what makes for such a great live show. Highly recommend this show!!!

Capital Cities and Fitz & The Tantrums were amazing! Best concert I've been to by far!

  • Beat Club + Capital Cities Rocked!

by HarryBasagna on 10/28/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The opener Beat Club killed it, they have a real unique sound and really made it worth showing up early to the show. Capital Cities played all their hits, their performance was spot-on acoustically. Fitz and the Tantrums were a let-down for me, the band was absolutely amazing but for some reason the vocals were all wonky. Maybe it was the sound techs that night, maybe the singers just had an off night, but either way I couldn't stay more than 5 songs. VERDICT: go see this show for Beat Club and Capital Cities! If Fitz is having a better night than what I saw, they are probably worth it too.

  • Awesome show

by ECraw on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

All of the performances were awesome! Process of getting in the doors was simple and quick. Didn't wait on a line or anything. The line for the bar was efficient and we didn't wait for more then 5 minutes which wasn't bad at all considering how many people are there. Drinks however were the only downside. $11 for a mixed drink in a Dixie cup.

  • The FUTURE is BRIGHT for these bands!

by TBirth on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

We arrived early and were able to be standing 4 rows from the front. The venue was nothing special, but adequate. Beat Club was a great opening band, and got the energy going right from the start. Next, Capital Cities came on and took the energy up another level. We were dancing the whole time. Lastly, Fitz and the Tantrums came on and continued the party. This is my 4th time seeing Fitz, and it was a great show. All in all, this was a great show and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a fantastic time and dance all night!

  • Double Billing

by CityCommuter on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Fantastic concert with both Capital Cities & Fitz and the Tantrums both featured. Well worth the price of admission and more.

  • by Anonymous on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Best dance party ever- if more clubs played with Capital Cities and Fitz & the Tantrums, I'd never sop dancing.

  • Fitz & the Capital Cities

by Mrfunktastik on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Fantastic show by all. While I've known Fitz longer I was wowed by Capital Cities' performance. It was genuine and energetic and so much fun to be a part of - and their trumpet player kicked ass. Fitz is definitely the more experienced act, but I think that the air of enthusiasm around the newer Cities was palpable and infectious. The venue was quite good with adequate acoustics and space (I'm pretty sure the show wasn't sold out though). And I thought $7 pints of Stella was rather generous for a big music venue - not bad Roseland. If you get the chance to see these bands in your town (or here in New York) do it, but get there early and get close for a much more fun experience.

  • Dance party from start to finish....

by Canucken on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Just a flat out great time by all three bands that night (Beat Club, Capital Cities opened). Fun and dancing. As it should be.

  • Fitz and the Tantrums /Capital Cities were epic!

by Trihard on 10/26/13Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz and the Tantrums filled the venue with high energy, acoustical, rhythmic music which kept the fans rocking all night. Capital Cities was the perfect opening band since they too rocked the venue with amazing mix of sounds. We loved the combination of soul, blues ,pop,Philly influenced music with a modern twist. We have seen Fitz and the Tantrums three times this year and can't wait to see them again. We are also new fans of Capital Cities! Thank you for providing an incredible concert!

  • Capital Cities and Fitz were an amazing show!
