About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

  • Fitz & The Tantrums are great!

    by Bird21 on 11/20/13The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

If you like real live music with outstanding vocals then you need to see Fitz & The Tantrums. The music is a mix between Motown and modern pop music with a driving beat, old school instrumentation, outstanding vocal harmonies, catchy melodies, and contemporary lyrics.

  • by ShowsTOgo on 11/19/13Egyptian Room at Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible show and amazing bands. Opening band, Beat Club, was incredibly good and would keep them on my radar. Capital Cities made everyone move and dance. Amazing tunes and they get the crow dancing. Fitz & The Tantrums was great, the chemestry of band members is incredible and makes the crow feel like part of the show.

It was a great show! I have to say I enjoyed the Capital Cities the best. The trumpet player and the bands energy was amazing.

by ConcertRatsMom on 11/17/13Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I looked forward to seeing Fitz & the Tantrums and they didn't disappoint. Capital Cities we a fortunate bonus. I was impressed by the added opening act The Beat Club as well.

  • Fitz and The Tantrums one of my new fav bands!

    by mom2kdz on 11/17/13Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

New to the band but a solid fan! They we're awesome! They are great live ~~ don't miss them!

  • by Anonymous on 11/17/13Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Capital cities beyond exceeded my expectations. The energy coming from each member of the band was very exciting and I've never been that interactive at a concert before. Fitz and the tantrums however fell a little short when the lead male singer had to read the lyrics to each song off of a piece of paper on the floor of the stage. Ruined it a bit for me.

  • Amazing for Capital Cities and Average for Fitz!

    by Pdawg66 on 11/14/13Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Capital Cities is a great live show. The brass player is off the hook and he really gets into it! I could have listened to Capital Cities for another hour but Fitz was the headliner. They have good energy but not my thing.

  • High energy performance

by davejl on 11/14/13Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Great show with an energetic crowd. Both bands filled the room with sights and sounds.

They are so much fun. Their set was very plain, but their music and personalities definitely made up for it. They are very friendly with their fans!

  • Fitz was great

by Dollssue on 11/10/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful show full of energy...would see them again

  • by Anonymous on 11/7/13Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Capital Cities is way better live -- they have a live horn player who just KILLED it during their set. They were really engaging with the audience and made you have a great time. Fitz and the Tantrums were also good (although not as good as Capital Cities). The female in Fitz steals the show.

  • Rocked my socks off!

by Kateniss on 11/7/13Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the show! Fitz and the Tantrums were amazing, I danced all night. Capital Cities were also great, I hadn't heard more than 1 of their songs before the show but I'm sure they will be a success. I can't wait for Fitz and the Tantrums to come back to Atlanta.

  • late but worth it for the price

by lassifer on 11/5/13State Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

The start time was changed to an hour later so we figured there was no opening act but we were wrong and had to wait another hour and a half for the real show

  • Fantastic

by phillyQT on 11/5/13The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Both bands delivered high energy and over the top performances. Spencer (Cap Cities) killed it on the trumpet. Was so surprised two big bands toured together. Was def pumped about it. Hope they come around to Phila again soon. Also - great venue, love the E factory, good size. Viewed the concert from up top and could see everything perfectly

  • An awesome show

Both Capital Cities and Fitz and the Tantrums were awesome live and the sound at the Roseland Ballroom was great.

  • great energy!

by forcemotrice on 11/4/13The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Both bands brought it on Friday night. Amazing energy, crowd was feeling it, and everyone sounded great. Concerts like this are the reason people love going to concerts.

  • Capital Cities Rocked; Weird acoustics for Fitz

by LisaDilys on 11/4/13The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Opening band was OK, a little all over the place musically. Capital Cities was awesome, so good - - so entertaining! Loved them, they had a great energy. I want to see them again!! There was some kind of issue with the acoustics when Fitz and the Tantrums were playing, like a weird vibration, as if you were riding on the highway with a window open on one side of the car. That really distracted from the show for me, so much so that I ended up moving to the back of the room where the effect was less intense.
