About

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

What a blast to see the unique, fun and musically elite soul pop band Fitz and the Tantrums. Forget that they have one of the best names ever for a group of their kind, they are one of the best acts to come around in a very long time. Bringing a sound that is so upbeat and romantic, people may have to toss their prozac. Couple this great act with the sights of the recently renovated historic Fox Theater in Oakland and you have a recipe for a spectacular evening.

  • Fitz & The Tantrums -- Enjoyable Dance Party!!

by gregb on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Seen Fitz & the Tantrums before and their energetic sound can rock the house. Their show in Oakland Thursday got rolling late but overall was an enjoyable evening because they closed the set with energy. To be honest, this was not my favorite performance by the group. There were two openers (both trying hard but unnecessary and time consuming). The audience was antsy by the time Fitz & the Tantrums came on at 10 pm. It was a weeknight. ...not an issue for me but a headliner should come on by 9 or 9:15 on a weeknight. While Noelle and the band came on strong, Michael seemed almost on automatic pilot early. No mention he was not feelng well, but seemed like a "phone it in" performance. Perhaps he needs to stop touring and rest and freshen up. I really believe if you are only playing for one hour and ten minutes, every minute on stage you should be into it. Even if you are faking it. The audience deserves 100%. That being said, Noelle was energetic throughout as was the band. Michael picked it up mid set and the show closed energetically like a Fitz & the Tantrums show should. The audience (many who were seeing the band live for the first time) was great...very responsive....cheering loudly...dancing and moving to the music...clapping when prompted. Overall, I enjoyed it as always but know it could have been even better

  • Fun band to see live!

I really enjoyed Fitz... they are very talented. Capital Cities was a lot of fun and got the place rocking!!! The trumpet player for them is amazing!!!

  • Great First Experience.

by MegPau on 2/27/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to several concerts but never a general admission. I had also never been to the Pageant. Thank God I decided to go. The Pageant is the ultimate place to go on the Delmar Loop. Go there at whatever costs possible. Fitz and the Tantrums is a must see. Their energy is incredible. They would make anyone want to get up and dance. Their songs are always catchy and easy to sing to. Their preformance is amazing. They are also a very friendly and gracious band. Go see them! Support them! They are awesome!

  • Incredible Evening

by Evaaaaa on 2/23/14The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

OH MY GOD. Both of these bands interact with the audience more than any band I've ever seen! The entire time, they're getting you to dance and clap and sit on the ground and jump and sing along. It was fantastic! However, the bearded guy (Sabu, I believe?) from Capital Cities wasn't at the concert because his wife was having a baby! Perfectly understandable, and since they had a computer with his audio and keyboard tracks, the overall effect was not lost! I didn't know most of Fitz's or Capital's songs, and yet the concert was completely incredible!!! Major props to both of these bands for pulling off a fantastic show.

  • We made that floor shake!

  • So Cool!

by Niomi5646465465454 on 2/21/14The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Capital Cities opened for Fitz and the Tantrums during this concert. It was really awesome. The "standing room" was large and the movement of the performances kept all the audience spaced out far enough that we werent stepping on each other. My friends and I could tell how much fun the performers were having and it made the night just that much more fun! Spencer Ludwig, the trumpeter from Capital Cities, and James King, saxophone player for Fitz, at one point had a duel of the air-instruments. It was /really/ really amazingly cool. I had seen one other concert with Fitz and that one, like this one, had very high energy and-- of course-- wonderful music. It was a lot of fun. I just wish they hadn't done it on a Tuesday night.

  • Capital Cities killed it

Fitz was a great, but CC owned the Chelsea tonight.

  • Fitz and The Tantrums KILLED IT!!!

    by Jjamz22 on 2/13/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Overall the show was amazing!! I didn't expect any less from the band!! Traveled from Des Moines, IA!! I've been to 2 of their shows!!! Hands down both concerts were amazing!! Seats were good, sound was good, and the beer went down well to!! Only down fall were the 2 chicks standing in front the entire time, making it hard to see if I was sitting down!

  • by Anonymous on 2/13/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

The show was good, however shorter than I had hoped for. Also, the sound was not to the standard that I expect from a good concert. It seemed too quiet at some points and difficult to understand the lyrics at others. But overall, a very fun concert.

  • by Anonymous on 2/13/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Both Fitz and the Tantrums and Unlikely Candidates were amazing. Obviously they sounded great, but were awesome entertainers as well.

  • Fitz and the Tantrums were FABULOUS!

by Anonymous on 2/13/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

Loved this concert. They were so good- all their music is so distinct. Excellent musicianship all the way around and TONS of energy. Only one slower song in the whole set! The only downside was their mix. The vocals sometimes got lost or sounded like they were in a can. It got better as the concert went on.
