FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS IN CONCERT:

Retro indie-pop group Fitz and the Tantrums are keeping the Motown Sound alive and well with their modern take on classic soul and funk. Combining call-and-response vocals,  backbeat tambourines, and vintage-inspired instrumentation, the band's electric live shows are equal parts shimmy and shake, inspiring nonstop dance parties as fans sing along to infectious pop masterpieces like "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League." Riding high on the success of their sophomore album More than Just a Dream, Fitz and the Tantrums are set to treat fans to another round of unforgettable shows on tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael Fitzpatrick formed LA-based Fitz and the Tantrums in 2008 after purchasing a Conn electronic organ -- an instrument that would prove vital in the development of the band's retro sound. The group performed their first show just one week after their first rehearsal, underscoring an effortless chemistry that was readily apparent on their 2009 debut EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. After touring with Maroon 5 and performing at SXSW, the band signed with Dangerbird Records for their 2010 debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces. The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing the group as one of the most promising rising talents in indie-pop and paving the way for 2013 sophomore effort More than Just  a Dream — a Top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

  • Fitz rocks

Such an amazing live show... If you like their music on the radio - you won't believe the live experience. They are a phenomenal act...beyond just a normal 'rock band' show...these guys are true entertainers and so talented. One of those shows that has the entire audience swept up in the experience.

  • Great show, great band, ok sound

    by Nightfly3000 on 4/8/14Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Boy do they put on a great musical show. Too bad it was almost ruined by the overuse of sub. The hair on the back of head was moving it was so overwhelming. Otherwise great night and Bad Suns brought their A game as well.

  • Fitz and The Tantrums were so energetic

by OooshOoosh on 4/8/14Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

They just kept the energy up the entire night. They also interacted with the audience and made a such a genuinely fun concert. I truly enjoyed it, and everyone around us was having such a great time too. It was such a positive vibe.

Their energy was great on stage. Noelle Scaggs really stole the show! She was pretty incredible. They sang all the hits and then some. The crowd was also really fun...

    by Fanatic408 on 4/7/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Plenty of space to dance and enjoy my evening with friends and family. Too many people around me smoking--pretty sure I walked away with an unwanted contact high... :( Fitz and the Tantrums rocked the house and such great energy!

  • Fitz and the Tantrums was awesome!!

by lohobster on 4/7/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I think that both the band and the location made this such a great concert. I love the Fox Theater in Oakland, it's so retro and cool! Fitz and the Tantrums is such a talented band! Love the energy they project and the music is great a little rock, funk and alt all mixed together! The opening band Bad Suns was fantastic, I didn't really know much about them but I am now a huge fan! Unfortunately I was late and missed the first opening band but I heard they were good too.

  • Fitz, Bad Suns, and Nightmare and the Cat Rock!

by Goldenbearboy on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The Fox Theater in Oakland is one of the best places to watch a band play, and Fitz and the Tantrums were amazing! I have never been to a show with more energy and happiness. From the time the openers got on stage (Bad Suns and Nightmare and the Cat) until we gave up on begging for another encore from Fitz, there was nothing but sing, dancing, and fun. Cannot wait to see any of these bands again at the Fox!

  • Fitz rocked it

by bcleazy on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The band was amazing live - they sounded as good, if not better, than their albums. The energy was impressive, the venue was just right, and the music was rocking.

I would recommend seeing this band and would love to see them live again! I do not regret buying these tickets. My friend and I had so much fun dancing and singing along even though we were not very close. The opening acts were not the greatest.

Fantastic show, the band was full of energy and the songs were great. Love the interaction between Noelle and Michael. James King sizzled on the sax.

Were they lip syncing ? I thought the show was very boring. Was hoping for a better time. Good thing I knew a worker at the show. Made the time go by faster.

  • Amazing fitz

    by Shanay14 on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

They were an energizing , up beat band . The crowd was equaly enjoyable . Just a great night . The Fox is by far the best venue in the Bay Area . I have attended 3 shows in the past year with my 9 yr old . Every time we have had an outstanding Experience . People standing around us were very accommodating to my daughter, and Made sure she could see . Their friendliness made the 10:00 start of the main band Tolerable . Once they got onstage , they did not disappoint !

  • Sincerity rocks

by Wintermade on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz & The Tantrums has quickly become one of my favorite bands. They embody old-school R&B and bring in the fun dance elements of the '80s - thus conveying both nostalgia and contemporary main-stream music. Fitz is also one of the most gracious and sincere front men. His lack of ego and his earnest appreciation of his audience makes this band sincerely likeable. he acknowledges that without "you, the audience" they wouldn't be there. I've seen him walk out and go into the audience to take pictures with fans and shake people's hands. I find this incredibly rare for a musician playing to more than 2500 people. And finally, the fact that he acknowledged he was in Oakland and NOT San Francisco scored major points with this Oaklander.

  • Fun Show

    by Newfan1010 on 4/6/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Fitz and the Tantrums are a talents band that is fun to watch live. These guys really know how to get the house on there feet and dancing. We had a blast. The Fox theater was a good place for this type of band. Lots of room to move around and really get into it. Thank you guys for putting on one of the best shows I've seen all year.
