Loved it. Wasn't sure how it would play out on stage, but was pleasantly surprised. Amazing cast but had hoped to see Topol.

Fiddler on the Roof on Tour
In Broadway terms, Fiddler on the Roof is a tradition unto itself. The much-loved story of Tevye the milkman's struggle to reconcile old Jewish ways with the modern world opened on Broadway in 1964 and held the record for longest-running musical — with 3,242 performances until it closed in 1970 — for nearly 10 years. The blockbuster won nine Tony Awards — including best musical, direction, and choreography — and has been revived on Broadway five times.
Producer Harold Prince hired director-choreographer Jerome Robbins to bring Sholom Aleichem's turn-of-the-19th-century Yiddish tales of life in the Anatevka shtetl, where existence is "as precarious as a fiddler on the roof," to the stage. Jerry Bock's music and Sheldon Harnick's lyrics illuminated the fading world of East European Jewry, while Joseph Stein's book brought a humorous taste of Jewish comedy's borscht belt. Painter Marc Chagall's blend of Jewish traditionalism and artistic modernism inspired the show's memorable look. Zero Mostel played Tevye, and Beatrice Arthur, of Maude television fame, portrayed Yente the matchmaker.
The most recent revival arrived in 2015, when director Bartlett Sher enhanced the show's authenticity with the help of Israeli-born choreographer Hofesh Shechter. The New York Times praised the new production as "superb" while noting how it recaptured the foot-stomping, hand-waving energy of the original.
Sher's revival, now on tour with Yehezkel Lazarov as Tevye and Maite Uzal as his wife Golde, is delighting audiences with celebratory songs like "Tradition," "If I Were a Rich Man," and "To Life (L'Chaim)," as well as beautiful melodies of love and loss such as "Sunrise, Sunset" and "Far From the Home I Love."
As part of a trend that began with The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof fans are dressing up as Anatevkans and belting out tunes during screenings of the show's 1971 film adaptation. Their participatory zeal reflects the devotion the musical has inspired and the power of its music.
"What can we do?" asks Tevye of Golde during a moment of doubt. "It's a new world." One solution is to return to the source for cultural renewal. We may not experience the same problems as shtetl Jews in 1905 did, but Fiddler on the Roof assures us that almost any difficulty can be surmounted with great music and exuberant dancing.

Fiddler on the Roof
by Michpolo on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5Although the show was very enjoyable - it's my favorite musical - Topol was missed. The voice of the actor who portrayed Tevye didn't quite resonate. Golda's voice was also a little weak. Not the best performance of Fiddler I've seen but certainly worth attending. I'm glad I went.

by UncleTommyD on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5ABSOLUTELY FANTASTICALLY WONDERFUL!!!! I would go again and again, everything about the show--the actors, the sets, the music--was PHENOMINAL!!!!!!
A great performance.
by skipjackie on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5We drove an hour and half, we would have turned around and driven back to see the Fiddler on the Roof again. My wife and friends enjoyed the great performance and wonderful music. Thanks to all for a wonderful performance!

by wrecks on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 4 out of 5really enjoyed the show. the only problem is your cell phone policy. which i know is hard to enforce. but when i pay for tickets, that i had to save up for. it is very distracting to have kids and adults texting all around me. very distracting and disrespectful of the actors.

by Musical2 on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5Topol made the play! His added comments and actions added a bit of humor to the musical!! His musical talent was the tops.
Fiddler on the Roof was OK but....
by stsusa on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5Most of the shows one sees at Shea's are at least OK, as was Fiddler on the Roof. However, some are excellent like"The Color Purple" or "The Jersey Boys".

by DawnKW on 11/23/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5We attended Fidller on the Roof yesterday- unforgettable even after all these years! I saw it on Broadway and to see it again, in my hometown, was a great experience and as good as I remembered!
Fiddler was Stupendous!
by ethanrude on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5I have always just watched this musical on DVD. I was awestruck at seeing it live! It was so much like the DVD as far as keeping to the original content and character likeliness. Seeing the llive performance brought it more to life than on screen. The actors really made it happen. It is sad that this is the last tour, but as they say in the Good Book..."TRADITION" it will be ever changing! Thank YOU Fiddler on the Roof!
Fantastic Fiddler!
by AndreaB on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5This production was amazing. After my initial disappointment that Topol would not be performing, I decided to attend anyway. It was wonderful. John Preece was Tevye! He was funny, touching, everything you could ask for as Tevye. The entire cast was outstanding. The acting, voices, music, dancing, just the best. I laughed, cried and was totally lost in the story and production.
Fantastic!! exciting!!! must see!!!
by tink17 on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5We had a wonderful time at Fiddler on the roof, It was very entertaining and was beautiful to watch and the music was a delight. I would recommend this to everyone. I loved it so much I would go see it again. Well worth the money. We sat in the back of the house in the orchestra section and the view was great.
Fabulous performance
by fiddlerlover on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 4 out of 5It's great to see "the show will go on" Certainly we are disappointed not be able to see Topol Nevertheless, the story was well told and full of humorous moments Thumbs up to the cast for a marvelous job.
Fiddler Dissapointing
by BryanDunham on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 1 out of 5Fiddler on the Roof at Shea's Performing Arts Centre was very disappointing. First Topol dropped out. I would not have purchased the tickets had he not been the star. We have seen better performances. His replacement was OK. The staging was very simple, not what I would expect paying this amount of money for. The show lacked energy and vitality. The dream scene, which is the best scene in the whole play was very disappointing. Tevea's wife was truly awful in her singing talents! We should have asked for a refund!
Fiddler on the Roof ROCKS!!!
by canalmama on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5Loved this musical, so well done!! The new Tevye just as good or dare I say better than TOPOL? Yes indeed, I laughed, I cried, it was a most memorable musical event for myself, mom, sister, and daughter, we all LOVED it!!! Scenery, lighting, costumes, and the dream sequence were all beautifully orchastrated, and cast was extremely talented! Five stars for sure!
Fiddler On The Roof
by Nannymcm on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5This has been a family favorite since the movie first came out but the first time I've ever seen it done live. It was outstanding!!! The music and the singing were right on and the actors/actresses were wonderful. I was disappointed when I learned Topol wouldn't be playing the lead...but the actor who did was by far the next best thing. I would recommend this play to everyone and hope that it comes back to Buffalo next year. I would love to see it again.
Fiddler not up to par.
by curtaincall on 11/22/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5It was disappointing that stagehands were visable during performance and distracting. This classic musical could have had much stronger people in the cast from the lead,to the matchmaker to the rabbi. At times it seemed like they were not terribly excited about their roles. Hats off to the young people who played the daughters and new husbands. They were outstanding. Sheas looks beautiful as always, but I have seen high schools do Fiddler better.
Always a great title
by Sunrise5222 on 11/21/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 2 out of 5I have seen Fiddler in the movies and three times in a play. First Play was high school and I must say it was great. Second time was small town play. The main actors were good and the actors who had small roles were just were just ok., however I was glad I went. I expected more from the play from Shea's. It was not bad but the whole thing lacked a certain spark. The actors were their in body, and voice but not soul. It would have better to have asked for my money back and stayed longer at dinner. It was ok but certainly not what I expected from Shea's.
Sadly lacking
by Phlipside on 11/21/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - BuffaloRating: 3 out of 5Of the shows we've seen over the last couple years at Shea's (Rent, Wicked, Chorus Line, Avenue Q, Jesus Christ Superstar) this was the second most disappointing. Not to say that it was a bad production but it was lacking. The cast as a whole was vocally uninspiring in song (a few showed flashes like the actress playing Tzietel), the choreography would have been fine for a high school production but not a national touring company. Too many of the characters stayed at simple one dimensional portrayals. The actor playing Tevye handled the comedy quite well but his singing was short of the standard and his movement was likewise. Several key scenes (like the visit from Frumasarah) lost much of their punch because of the vocal shortcomings of the cast. The staging was outstanding and the show itself is good enough to make for an adequate evening at the theater. The worst show we ever saw at Shea's was the recent Jesus Christ Superstar which was simply awful due to the poor casting in the lead role. This show is leagues better than that but was still quite disappointing.
