TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."  Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls “THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!”

    Bjcc Sound System

by E. on 1/23/19BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

Overall I enjoyed the show. Sets were nice, costumes appropriate and cast enthusiastic. Solo songs were, for the most part, great. Some group songs were difficult, if not impossible to understand what was being sung. I was not impressed with the Evita role. Some of the high notes she screeched (not sung) were literally physically painful to my ear. The sound system sounded harsh and tinny.

    Boring and hard to follow

    by C. A. on 1/23/19BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

Every single word was in song form and a lot of it unintelligible so it was hard to follow the story line. Our seats were also high up in the balcony which meant we couldn’t see half of the screen which the set relied on as a backdrop. We left after the first act!

    Evita

by Queenie on 1/21/19BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

Staff at the venue were awesome!!! The screen used in the production could not be seen where we sat, so the top of heads were cut off and images pertinent to show content could not be seen. Play itself was average.

If only we could of heard it.

    by R. K. on 1/21/19BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

The sound system was the worst I have ever experienced when seeing a show. The performers voices would echo between speakers or the volume was so low you hear or understand them either way. About 20% of the crowd didn't return after intermission. The performers were performing their hearts out so kudos to them! But it was a shame since you really couldn't understand what they were saying. I give 5 stars to the performers and ushers (for having to deal with all the complaints).

    Evita (off Broadway)...

by M. on 1/20/19Pensacola Saenger Theatre - Pensacola

The company was good, not great. Some cast members did not project their voices well. The sets were good, not great. The dancers were excellent for a touring group.

Play was great! Talent exceeded expectations.

    by C. M. on 1/20/19Pensacola Saenger Theatre - Pensacola

The balcony patrons could not see any of the pictures of Evita throughout the play. Crew needed to adjust the sets for all patrons.

    Evita falls short of expectations.

by Boowah on 1/20/19Pensacola Saenger Theatre - Pensacola

We recently traveled to Pensacola Florida to see the touring company of Evita at the Saenger Theater. The theater was beautiful and the ease of sparking and dining before the show was wonderful! Pensacola is a beautiful city with many cultural things to offer. This production of Evita was not one of those things. We were seated in the balcony and from our row Q we were not able to see the top 1/2 of the video screen used in the production to further the story with images of Peron throughout history. It seems traveling shows need to take that into consideration when designing a set. The lead characters in this show fell well below expectations. The actress who portrayed Evita could not handle the vocal challenges of this roll. She did not have the flexibility in her vocal range to sing the high phrases and then immediately transition into the low register. It’s is a challenging roll. She at times was screaching and seemed to be belting and yelling. It was unpleasant. We felt she was an immature actress at best and maybe the whole company was a new group just starting together. All of the leads frequently missed lines and dropped the end of their phrase making it difficult to understand them many times. The orchestra was lack luster and no one seemed to have any energy especially in the 2nd act during the sing “money money money”. The cast only consisted of 21 actors and the “crowd” scenes didn’t translate so well with so few people. The ensemble however small did an amazing job with their song and dance! They were truly the star of the show!

What's new Evita? A Musical Biography of Eva Peron

by DapperDanD23 on 5/4/17Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

Before I watched this musical, I knew nothing about who Evita was or why she was important. So I watched the 1996 movie musical starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas to get a feel for the musical first before going to see the show. Evita tells the life story of the woman who would become Eva Peron, one of the most famous political figures in Argentina's history. The costumes and the sets were amazingly detailed and the singing was very loud and expressive. The actors were very intense in everything that they said, sung, or danced in, which really showcased their talents and passion for their craft. The voice that amazed me the most was that of Che's, I don't know how the actor can sing multiple shows a day like that and not loose or damage his voice. This is a rock opera musical, so most of the songs have a rock element to them. Personally I enjoyed the sounds and music of Argentina better than the rock elements but I understand why that choice was made. Overall, while Evita wasn't bad, it wasn't my favorite musical that I've seen either. If you like learning about history, or watching revolutions and uprisings, rock style music, or want to see something different than your standard musical, then check out Evita and ask her what's new.

    Amazing

by KatieUpland on 4/12/17California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Lived up to my expectations, and I'm very scrutinizing. I've seen Evita over 20 times. All the primary roles were portrayed excellently, in fact all actors were excellent.

    Skip this one

by lABCxyz on 4/10/17California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

The sound was horrible. If I had not seen the play previously (in LA) I would not have know what was being sung. The acoustics were terrible, making the voices seem harsh and the words garbled. The sets were fine - but overall a long night and not particularly enjoyable.

    Very good new production

by Kodiak on 10/22/16Fred Kavli Theater - Thousand Oaks, CA (near Los Angeles)

This Evita lacked some of the pizazz of the original productions that came to LA in the late 70s and early 80s. Obviously cut backs on cast size, costuming, and orchestra, but also they cut out a very fun choreographed section on "Peron's Latest Flame". Now the cast just stands and sings to the audience during the tune. Anyway this cast is just excellent. Evita is wonderful and gets down the feisty and power hungry Evita spot on. The true gem is Ginsberg as Che. I've seen Evita about 15 times since it first came to LA and he's one of the two best Che's ever. Marvelously powerful voice and perfect inflections on his sarcasm, cynicism, irony, and disgust with what his character witnesses. Just a great voice, hitting every note from soft and quiet to loud and desperate. You'll love this cast. Saw this in Thousand Oaks, CA last weekend.

    Do Cry for Evita, Argentina

by CheEvitaLover on 8/26/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

This was a poor production. The lead, Desi Oakley, did not have the range to sing the role of Eva and the pacing of the entire production was so slow as to lull one to sleep. The over all cast was made so small that crowd scenes (On The Balcony of the Casa Rosada for instance) were more like a very small family get together and totally unbelievable. I've seen 7 other productions of Evita so I do know a good performance of it. The direction had singers punching a single word here of there to convey "emotion", leaving the audience to wonder why that one word was shouted so loud when compared to the rest of the song. In spite of this, I did admire the new sets. Still somewhat minimal, they added a little more color to the set versus the old production. I also truly admired Josh Young as Che - he gave a great performance. In short, save your money for another road show. This one is only half ready to be seen.

    Can't Stop Humming the Tunes!

by Auburn03 on 8/26/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

Really loved the show. Excellent performances, but did have a bit of trouble understanding the words in some of the songs. The second half was much better regarding this criticism. Would love to see it again if it were in the budget. Too bad the theater was only half full. People really missed out, but it is a busy time of year. One thing that did irritate me that has nothing to do with the performance was after I bought my tickets I was sent an email that tickets were now 25% off. Having just bought 5 full price tickets I would rather have not known this information.
