TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns to Broadway at last, starring Grammy® Award winner RICKY MARTIN (Les Misérables) and Olivier Award winner ELENA ROGER (Piaf), who will be the first Argentinian actress to play the role of Evita on Broadway. She reprises her remarkable portrayal that dazzled audiences and critics in London's West End. Also starring is Tony Award winner MICHAEL CERVERIS (Sweeney Todd).
The leading lady had a bizarre accent and sounded like a munchkin from The Wizard of Oz. Ricky saved the show.
We chose the 2PM Saturday matinee and were impressed by the entire ensemble energy! Eva was performed to perfection by the off-day understudy and Michael Cerveris was impressive as Peron(even though he had just performed in concert at 54 Below the previous night)!! Ricky Martin surprised me with his acting ability as I had only thought of him as a pop singer.
One of tha most beautiful show ever seen. Nice scenography, spectacular music sound. Ricky Martin superb performance. We really loved this show.
This was my 2nd time seeing the show and it was just as good as the last time I saw it. The show was awesome, Ricky was phenomenal and the cast was great. I had very good seats and enjoyed being that close to the stage to see Ricky and that beautiful voice up close. I am so sad it ended its run. Ricky was wonderful as Che. I was happy to see some Latinos in this Play, playing parts of Argentinians! I don't think another cast would have done it justice. Bravo for an excellent year to Broadway Evita.
I thought it was fantastic! The cast was awesome! A must see!
The lead actress playing Evita was difficult to understand what she was singing. She didn't seem comfortable portraying the lead role. It could have been better and with no help from other characters it failed to capture an audience.
Ricky Martín was the best in this show! We Really enjoyed all the show
The first time I saw Evita was with Patty Lupone and Mandy Patinkin when it first opened in the early 80's. I had the music on tape and listened to it frequently, so I knew the lyrics. This time I went with friends visiting from abroad because they wanted to see Ricky Martin as it was the end of his 10 month engagement. He did a pretty decent job even though his voice is not very powerfiul, his acting was good. The actress playing Evita was just terrible. Her singing sounded like one of the "Chipmonks" and a lot of the lyrics were just imposible to understand. Her stage presence was just not good and we felt she was badly miscast. There are certainly better singers out there. She was so small, we originaly thought se was a child. It was borderline comical. The actor playing Juan Peron was very forgettable and also miscast. The cast was very good. Sorry we spent the time and money.
One of the best plays that I have seen. The singing, dancing and set were amazing.
What a thrill to see the talented Ricky Martin "at home", on Broadway ! Elena Roger has a very different style to her singing but it grows on you and really fits the part Michael Cerveris is a consummate pro ! Today is the last day so I hope you got to see it ! :(
Enjoyed the musical! Only gave it a three because I felt that the artist in the role of Evita Ms. Roger was not up to par. On Thursday night her voice in the upper range was screechy and actually grating to the ear. The roles of Juan and Che were portrayed excellently. I also enjoyed the choreography throughout Evita. Talented supporting cast.
Overall the play was good though, I have never before left a Broadway show and felt I did not see the most talented performers in their field. Eva Perone's singing was verging on grating. Her range seem narrow. When she needed to project or hit a higher range her voice was tinny. It was disappointing that Ricky Martin did not perform but his stand in was talented. For the price of the tickets I expected more.
You could feel the passion of the actors especially the actress who played the part of Eva Perone. What a performance by Ricy Martin!
What a spectacular broadway show. I was so thrilled that I had the opportunity to see Evita. The cast, the stage, the costumes......everything was incredibly done. I loved Ricky Martin, of course, but also want to give credit to all of the other cast members. I would see it again in a heart beat!
great show BUT not a Blockbuster Music and staging beautiful Ricky Martin WOW
I saw "Evita" on 1/23/2013, and I thought the historical significance of the play was interesting. However, the individual who played "Eva P", was difficult to understand. The singing, the clarity of words of the songs necessary to convey the essence of the story was somewhat ineffective. In other words, her voice quality was squeaky. I would recommend this Bway show, however, the price for the show should be lowered.
1- Ricky Martin was Great!! Even though he did not dance much 2- Elena Roger was MISCAST -Good Actress , TERRRIBLE SINGER SCREEEEEECHES what were the casting agents thinking are they deaf 3- I thought it was going to be similar to the original 4- Patti Lupone in the role of Evita CANNOT be duplicated 5- Not enough dancing and singing, 6- overall ok show but not enough to recommend wholehearted 7- Elenas accent too thick to decipher
This was the poorest show of Evita that I had watched over the years. No comparison to the original presentation with Patty Dupont. The singing was very mediocre with the exception of Ricky Martin, no doubt the star of the night. The stage was poorly decorated and rigid. The characters didn't translate the sad and contradicting story of Evita that made this show so unique. In the original and subsequent versions they were showing some old films that gave the audience certain historical perspective of the real situation in Argentina during those years, it was now painfully missing. The real Peron was a tall, imposing dictator, so different than the portrait shown in this musical, it was kind of an anticlimax. The second part was much better than the first one and the singing improved significantly, still, I expected more. Thank you.
My friend and I went to see it. We really enjoyed and had a great time. Ricky Martin was excellent as we expected !
We loved the play and the amazing little power house Elena Roger.
