TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns to Broadway at last, starring Grammy® Award winner RICKY MARTIN (Les Misérables) and Olivier Award winner ELENA ROGER (Piaf), who will be the first Argentinian actress to play the role of Evita on Broadway. Ucky

by R788 on 4/9/12Marquis Theatre - New York

Dances were great. Staging worked well. Che and Evita were miscast and neither actor was able to fill those roles. I was very disappointed.

    Evita

by mattstarr on 4/9/12Marquis Theatre - New York

I have seen this show 3 times since 1980. This is by far the best production I have ever seen. The staging is amazing. The voices are outstanding. Ricky Martin's narration of the story is crystal clear. What a performance!

    Evita was "un Evitful"

by Fenwaypk13 on 4/9/12Marquis Theatre - New York

Evita was average at best. Saw it this weekend with two other couples and all agreed it was fair at best. It would not rank in my top 50. Ricky Martin was charming and sounds like Ricky Martin, but Elena Roger was barely adequate. Other than "Don't Cry for Me" she seemed incapable of hitting the notes and maintaining the pace. We saw three shows and this was at the bottom. Rock of Ages and Newsies killed Evita! Thank goodness for Martin.

    Eva Lead is Terrible

by SanDiego987 on 4/9/12Marquis Theatre - New York

The lead, Elena Roger is just downright terrible in the role of Eva. Easily the worst lead in any Broadway show I have seen, or any musical anywhere. I don't say this to be hurtful, but it is really unbelievable that she was cast in this role. Her voice is shrill, she screams the powerful lines, and at times I seriously was laughing as she sounded like Rozanne Rozanna Danna singing. Actually, it may have sounded a little more like Gilda Radner doing Barbara Wa Wa singing. Hard to say. The music is so beautiful that it sometimes was able to squeeze past her flaws and still provide some enjoyment. The rest of the cast and production are excellent and I would still recommend this show for those who love the story. I agree with some other reviewers that Ricky Martin plays Che in a more playful role instead of the angry one we are used to, but it works for him and he amazed us with his transformation from his latin-pop days to some serious Broadway chops.

I flew from Miami just to see Ricky Martin in this show and it was all worth it. The show was great, and Ricky was perfection. Amazing scenography, choreography and music.

    Disappointed

by Jeremy76 on 4/8/12Marquis Theatre - New York

I have never seen the movie nor any other productions of Evita before, my friends have said what a wonderful show it is. I saw Evita this past Friday night and I could not get pass the main lead and her voice. I love Broadway shows, but her voice was horrible and ruined the entire show. The rest of the cast was great and if you are a fan of Ricky Martin he was great and is literally in the show for 95% of it. I just cant get pass the main lead.

I've waited 33 years for this show to come back to Broadway, and I wasn't disappointed. Ricky Martin was great and carries the show.

    Evita still needs work!

by Janaconda on 4/8/12Marquis Theatre - New York

We went to see the show on Friday 4/6/12 and were disappointed by the singing of the Evita herself. Having seen the original production on Broadway in the 70's we were anticipating a much better performance from the lead. Her voice at times was difficult to listen to Ouch! If it were not for the great performance of Ricky Martin as Che I would have rated the show only one star. Dancing was good along with the chorus numbers but Evita needs serious work with her vocals - this being the first performance after the official opener we surely expect much better!

    Evita was a miss

Disappointing. The role of Evita was weak especially when there is such depth of talent available on Broadway.

by miklde on 4/8/12Marquis Theatre - New York

we thought ricky martin was great as che - we did not like the actress as evita. we did not think she was cast correctly - she did not have the presence that is required to pull off the part. we left after the intermission of the play.

    Excellent

by Expector on 4/8/12Marquis Theatre - New York

Overall, it was a musical banquet. Definitely Rick Martin performance was the best. His onstage charisma creates the key that capture the attention from public. I'm Puertorrican and I'm not a fan, but Ricky really make me feel so proud.
