    EVITA was GREAT

by Negron65 on 1/25/13Marquis Theatre - New York

Ricky Martin was great in EVITA. It was a birthday gift for my mother who turned 72 on Wednesday, January 23rd and a memorable one. She loved it and I as well. I'm glad I was able to give my mother such great gift.

    Totally underwhelmed!

by UWS89Greg on 1/25/13Marquis Theatre - New York

While Ricky Martin performed reasonably well, I remain perplexed at the overall casting for the show. I was happy Elena Rogers wasn't performing this night, because she yell/shouts, rather than singing. Makes me appreviate Madonna's talent even more from her movie portrayal. I understand why the show is ending this week!

Ricky Martin was great in Evita. I wasn't familiar with the story behind the play and found it very interesting to learn about that time in Argentina.

    Good job on Evita

by Mailboxhead on 1/24/13Marquis Theatre - New York

This was a very good rendition of Evita. The sets were limited (I expected more for the fact it was on Broadway) and although the cast was good, they weren't amazing. Ricky Martin was very entertaining but his voice just doesn't make Broadway. The best piece of the show was "Another Suitcase, Another Hall" by Perone's mistress. Awesome voice, Awesome job. Powerful like Broadway should be. Overall, A good show to go see. Not a let down at all, just not quite as great as I hoped it would be.

    Very disappointed

by sonoprofessor on 1/24/13Marquis Theatre - New York

Rickie Martin was great. I wish I could say the same about the leading lady. The first time she opened her mouth I thought it was a joke. Unfortunately, it was not. She was very nasal and everytime she hit the high notes I cringed, it felt like fingernails on a chalk board. The actress that played Juan's mistress had the voice of an angel and should have been playing the lead.

    EVITA

by Josie1919 on 1/24/13Marquis Theatre - New York

The lead actress who played EVITA, Elena Roger, completely ruined this show for me. She was a horrible, horrible singer and screeched through all the high parts of the songs. She also rushed many of the songs and made the orchestra music seem like it was "off" because of it. She had absolutely no stage presence and was most unconvincing in the role of EVITA. Her lack of emotion made e the character come off almost as cold and unemotional, making me long for the perfection, which was Patti Lupone, playing EVITA in the 80's. While I think Ricky Martin did a great job and so did the rest of the supporting cast, I could not enjoy myself or this production. I was literally cringing in my seat and bracing myself for the next high note Elena Roger would attempt to sing. Very disappointing as EVITAand its score is one of my favorite of all times

    Evita was an excellent show!

by raillmt on 1/23/13Marquis Theatre - New York

Dissapointed that Ricky Martin's understudy was appearing, although he was excellent! The female lead playing Eva Peron at times was a bit raspy and shrill! Overall the show was excellent!

It was supposed to have Ricky Martin but it didn't

by CarolinaCastaneda on 1/23/13Marquis Theatre - New York

Even though the show was good, one of the main reasons why we decided to go to Evita was to see Ricky Martin. When we got there they said the actor for Che was someone else. We were very disappointed.

    Frustrating

by Anonymous on 1/23/13Marquis Theatre - New York

As a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Broadway theater, there are no words to describe my frustration and disappointment when I watched Evita. The leading role was performed by Elena Roger, who simply destroyed the songs. She had an annoying, pitchy voice that couldn't do less justice to a role originated by the amazing Elaine Page. Besides, she screamed most of the songs she supposedly sang. I just couldn't believe my ears. For the first time ever in a Broadway theater, I expected the show to end. As said before, I love musicals, Evita being one of my favorites since ever. I spent the last holidays in the USA with my family and looked forward to see another Andrew Lloyd Weber's masterpiece. The actress who played Peron's mistress, on the other hand, had a beautiful voice (singing "Another suitcase in another hall"), and I wondered why she wasn't cast as Evita instead. Unfortunately, there wasn't much I could do. I could either leave or accept the torture and wait to see if things would get any better – I wish I could say they did.

    Very disappointing

by STLHills on 1/23/13Marquis Theatre - New York

We traveled 1,800 miles to see Ricky Martin who was a no show and the woman that played Evita had the shrillist voice and couldn't understand her. I should have known when the mezzanine level was only 30% full.
