As a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Broadway theater, there are no words to describe my frustration and disappointment when I watched Evita. The leading role was performed by Elena Roger, who simply destroyed the songs. She had an annoying, pitchy voice that couldn't do less justice to a role originated by the amazing Elaine Page. Besides, she screamed most of the songs she supposedly sang. I just couldn't believe my ears. For the first time ever in a Broadway theater, I expected the show to end. As said before, I love musicals, Evita being one of my favorites since ever. I spent the last holidays in the USA with my family and looked forward to see another Andrew Lloyd Weber's masterpiece. The actress who played Peron's mistress, on the other hand, had a beautiful voice (singing "Another suitcase in another hall"), and I wondered why she wasn't cast as Evita instead. Unfortunately, there wasn't much I could do. I could either leave or accept the torture and wait to see if things would get any better – I wish I could say they did.
