About

TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored." Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls "THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!"

  • Very good performance, could use more authenticity

by Soona on 10/8/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The cast was very good!! Acting was good. The dancing and singing were phenomenal. I would have liked to hear more authentic sounds -meaning Argentian accents could make this so much more powerful. This did not take too much away from the show, but something that would have made this a great show!!

  • Evita men better than women

    by KMA8 on 10/8/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The choreography was outstanding and the male singers, especially Che, were great. I was very disappointed in the enunciation of Evita's lyrics. It was impossible to understand her throughout much of the play. Part of this was that the orchestra was too loud, but it isn't an excuse.

  • "Evita" Shines Brightly!

    by SJS9504 on 10/8/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Granted, I may be biased because the role of Eva Peron is a dream role for me, but this was by far one of the most incredible pieces of musical theatre I've ever witnessed. We were there at at matinee with the alternate Eva, played by Desi, and she was fantastic. Lucky enough to score front row center seats (which NEVER happens!) we were able to see every inch of the stage, all of the performers, and the orchestra pit if we stood up and looked over the rail. The costumes were spectacular, the facial expression and commitment of the actors was utterly phenomenal, and the music was exquisite.

  • Evita was delightful

by sfdm on 10/8/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The outstanding voices, led by Tony nominee Josh Young made for a wonderful theater experience. The greater emphasis on dancing from earlier versions was a nice addition as was the song from the film, "You Must Love Me". Krystina Alabado was amazing in her solo as Peron's mistress. She is one to watch.

Loved the performance! It was a great play to see.

  • Evita was a dark horse I didn't see coming

by thetwoj on 10/8/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The tickets for Evita were gifted to me. I admit, I had no real interest in seeing the show, but who says no to free theater tickets? I was blown away after the first song. I had no idea this show was this good. Oh, and the talent on this tour was mind blowing. I see a lot of musical theater, this production of Evita is now among my top 5 best shows I've ever seen. Bravo!

  • Hated it left at intermission

This musical was awful the music of Andre Loyd Weber was of course amazing but the singers were not strong we went on a sat night so I assume it was not the B team. But it was so bad theater was not even half full. Big pass'o'la save you pennies for when Wicked blows back into town

The staging and lead female were disappointing, not bad, just not as good as the last time I saw this play

I thought the theatre and the cast did an awesome job. so did the orchestra. Everything was perfect!

Theater was beautiful , if you like the music you will enjoy it

  • Evita: ok performance

    by ishtar27 on 10/7/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Having seen the movie and loving the music, I had high expectations for this musical. Unfortunately they were not met...this was the movie on stage although not as animated. The lead for Evita was screaming at portions during her songs which was hard on the ears. In fact, the young girl who sang one song solo had a better voice than who they cast for Evita.

  • Great performance!

by Evitafan on 10/7/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The cast was great, costumes, staging-- everything! I loved it and would surely see it again. The staff at the Oriental were very courteous, but inside the theater it was freezing cold! I'm not sure if it's because it was only about 1/3 full or what (that in itself was disappointing to see so any empty seats on a Friday night!). But overall, great show.

This is the third time I've seen Evita over the years. Josh Young was without a doubt the star of the show. I was also impressed with the pit band -or more accurately-orchestra was outstanding . I was a little disappointed in the set, and thought that the cast could have a few more members.

  • evita was amazing and unforgettable

The show was unique and entertaining. The stars were so talented and put on a great show.

  • Very good ... enjoyable... but

by AJSP on 10/5/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I felt ... (though I know partially) that, in general, a musical needs to lead the audience and tell a story. I did not think the production did this. For example, les Mis ~ I had not read the book before seeing the musical.. the the musical led me to understand... Phantom, Cats, Ballet production, etc. Each told a story... Evita finally got off the ground 1/3rd through... I was skeptical with the opening .. the 'images' and 'reels'.. uh, .. I felt, "so what?" I could look that up in books or see from other sources. I needed the 'Production' to tell me the story. - reels and photos: a bit of a let down. Musically - Very good orchestra. I would have to check the arrangement compared to the original as occasionally a quite well integrated sense of 'Venezuela'-style dotted sections ... however, in other sections, there was a 'vey american' / almost flippant air about the musical section ... I began to feel at these times lost as to what any of what I was hearing in conjunction with what I was seeing had anything to do with the 'flavor' of what the story should have / could have been about.

  • Evita in Chicago

by denverpeg on 10/5/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Very enjoyable production, even though the theater (oriental) was freezing. The theater staff needs to be more aware of the comfort level. There was no one in the production who did not meet high expectations. The staging was good, voices were good, Narrator (che?) excellent. One gal, the one who played the girl Evita kicked out of Juan Perone's house, was outstanding. I want to see her in more productions! Wonderful voice and presence.

  • Evita

by Mittze on 10/5/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

It was a wonderful afternoon. We were worried that with the understudy it would take away from the play but we were really wrong. She was terrific, as was all the cast. We also enjoyed Che as his range was incredible! Wonderful show from start to finish..

  • Never tire of seeing Evita

by karsmeej on 10/5/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

3rd time we have seen Evita over a period of 35 years and still love it. Talented cast, very good voices and acting. Love the music. The orchestra did an amazing job.

  • TIMELY STILL APPARENT

The show was well done and uncannily relevant to today as the government in broke and going in deeper

  • Excellent!

by Babadonna on 10/4/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

From the time the curtain went up till it went down, we were riveted to the stage. Beautiful staging, dancing and of course, the music and singing. Outstanding and if we could afford it, would see it over and over. The music is in my head and I can't get it out.......and don't want to!
