About

Erykah Badu, one of the world’s most revered singers, is widely credited as being the godmother of neo-soul. Badu’s blend of hip-hop swagger and smooth jazz draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and has earned her a total of four Grammy nominations. Pitchfork described the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s 1997 debut album Baduizm as an “existential anchor of the neo-soul movement.” The triple-platinum album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “On & On” won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Badu’s enduring legacy was cemented on the road, where she has sung to sold-out crowds on multiple worldwide tours. The R&B legend has released five critically-acclaimed studio albums, and has been featured on hit songs by Busta Rhymes, Macy Gray and Janelle Monáe.

  • Amerykahn Promise Delivered!

by Tobasco on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Erykah a few times before, and this was by far the BEST show ever! It felt more like an experience than a concert. She sounded GREAT, she looked great, the band was insane, everything was on point! As soon as I got home, I went on-line to see if she had any additional shows in the area because I wanted to see her again, the next night if possible! Seriously, it was THAT good! She covered a LOT of her material, with a couple of surprising exceptions, but I won't ruin it for you. If you have the opportunity to EXPERIENCE Ms. Badu, don't sleep on it. Take advantage of that PRIVILEGE!!!!

  • Erykah was Incredible!

by CCtickets on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu is always full of surprises! From her amazing live band, to navigating the drum machine and dropping knowledge all at the same time. The girl is BAAAAAAD!!!! After performing for about an hour, she went off stage fooling most people into thinking that was the end of the cosmic journey, but after leaving us to groove to the band for about 20 minutes she came back out and ripped another set! If Erykah is ever in a city near you, she is definitely worth whatever the ticket price is, real music by a real artist. And if neo-soul isn't your thing, don't worry she rocks old school to new school, rock to hip hop and all the way back again.

  • Girl is off the chain!!!

by PDXJam on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

She gave an awesome show! Came out in a gold swim cap and ripped the stage. She performed for almost 2 and half hours. She sang all the old stuff. Just banging all night long!

  • Baduism

Fun show, small venue, diverse crowd, creative artist...You have to like Erykah to appreciate her show.

  • Incredible show

by amen on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu puts on one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Her costumes were amazing! I would describe her as somewhere between a science fiction diva (alla 5th element) and an African American Edith Piaf. And she is very obviously a classically trained dancer in addition to an amazing vocalist.

by SterlThePearl on 7/14/09House of Blues Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I have always enjoyed Madam Badu's music. After this show, I am one of her biggest fans. She is BADD!! She rocked her songs, a beat machine, other people's songs and showed just how deep she is in Hip Hop. She rocked some songs only "hip-hop heads" knew and broke into a Super Crazy Freestylye while keeping her Powerful Woman Image. She is multi talented and has an ubelieveabley incredible stage presence. I rocked from the beginning to the end of the show. "HOTT FLAVA" is the show of Erykah Badu.

  • Badu kills it as only she can!!

    by BigWood76 on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu at the Nokia was just what I was looking for. No matter what seat you had in the house, you got a good view and vibe from the stage. She came out as if she WAS the Mother of the Mothership. She stayed interacting with the audience and played almost all the joints I wanted to hear.

  • Awesome experience

by ECOLON on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu is one of the last of the original "neo-soul" catergory and she proved it at this show and others that I have seen. She gave you visuals and made you stop and think about life in it's present, and taking a tri back in time to the day's when blue's first took shape, and taught us to never forget who we are and where we came from, and never forget that love conquers all. Add a dose of humor and you have a great show. The club Nokia was a terrible venue, the sound quality sucks, the speakers kept on scratching, and the microphones buzzing...same thing when I saw Prince play there. I have seen her in better venues "Greek Theatre" to be exact. I say that she is worth every penny!

  • Miss Badu

by Tenda on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great! Even the opening act (Janelle Monae) was tight! She had so much energy and a beautiful voice. Erykah's voice was on point, new material still kept you engaged, outfit was out there but it's Erykah that's to be expected.

  • Erykah Badu at Club Nokia

by Stevwes on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah was fantastic!!! Her voice was amazing, the band was tight and the back-up singers were incredible. Great showcase of old and new material complete.

  • I recommend watching her at least once!

by PEN6111ns on 7/14/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

It was my first time ever attending an Erykah Badu Concert and all I can really say is that it was definitely memorable. The venue added to the intimacy of the concert as the bayfront, being outside and underneath the stars and the human scale of closely built structures created a keen spot to listen to her unique vocals. Badu interacted on a personable level to her fans. Her presence was inspiring, as she sang soulfully and triumphantly her melodic vocals and crazy beats. I enjoyed her concert, especially being in such great company I was. It was great!

  • Erykah Nadu @ Club Nokia

by KneeSocks on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great show. She absolutely killed it on stage. I have always enjoyed Erykah Badu's music, but she turned me into a bona fide fan. The venue was great also. Small, initmate, good view of the stage, and great acoustics. The bar is cool too, although expensive. I would definitely see her again, and I would definitely recommend Club Nokia.

  • Erykah Badu magical in concert

by Nicolada on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I have EVER been too. Absolutely incredible the energy she has on stage and how it permeates through the audience. If you have a chance to see her do not pass up the opportunity. I was a big fan before and now obsessed! Baduism!

  • Worth the wait

by Vaniche on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

She was an hour late coming out but was well worth the wait.

  • Erykah best show I've ever seen!!

  • Erykah was Awesome!!

Loved the show - Erykah was great. Must see her perform live!

  • Badu is Bad meaning GOOD!

by GSpot on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Miss Badu 5 times now and it's always amazing and always a little different. She was on fire at this show starting with her entrance outfit - crazy blinged out sunglasses over a fitted silver leather cap, and a brightly colored kimono. About four songs in she dropped the kimono and was wearing an amazing dress that looked like Alexander McQueen. Her voice and her band were in top form and she was even goofing about after she almost spilled her tea on her laptop because the cap wasn't screwed on properly. She did this old school hip hop medley infused with her own song and keep asking the audience "should I take you waaaay back?" before she busted into some Biggie or NWA. I never heard her do this number before and it brought down the house. She is a consumate performer and I eagerly await each show - not to be missed.

  • Erykah on point, venue was real lame

by clubnokiasuxass on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

The show was awesome, went with my girl and had a blast. However, the venue and staff at Club Nokia were the worst. I'm talking about 2 bartenders for over 100 people in line. Not Cool!!! Then the seats are so small any time some one wants to get up you have the whole row standing up. PLace is really booty. Do not support venues like this.
