About

Erykah Badu, one of the world’s most revered singers, is widely credited as being the godmother of neo-soul. Badu’s blend of hip-hop swagger and smooth jazz draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and has earned her a total of four Grammy nominations. Pitchfork described the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s 1997 debut album Baduizm as an “existential anchor of the neo-soul movement.” The triple-platinum album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “On & On” won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Badu’s enduring legacy was cemented on the road, where she has sung to sold-out crowds on multiple worldwide tours. The R&B legend has released five critically-acclaimed studio albums, and has been featured on hit songs by Busta Rhymes, Macy Gray and Janelle Monáe.

  • It was a phenominal show.

by Noemi on 7/15/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah's talent shines even more when she is live in concert. Her talent to make neo beats and ecliptic sounds were and are still phenominal. The best part of Erykah's show is not just listening to your favorite songs but your favorite songs being remixed in the moment of her vibing with the audience.

  • Fresh to death

    by Dreamer420 on 7/15/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah badu is so real. Every performance, including this one, is touching, passionate, and soulful. In every performance, she creates a moment. She feels her music and so do you. The music is funky, her singing is radiant as always, and her performance is juicy.

  • Erykah is the best

by cristyw10 on 7/15/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu always puts on a good show. This concert was defintely not extravagent, but you don't really care because the entertainment is. Erykah always mixes in a couple cool, old songs and impovs certain moments, which makes it even more real. Ms. Badu is still the bomb. She is a must-see.

I've seen Fat Belly Bella a half dozen times and she's never disappointed. She gets better everytime I see her.

Great voice! She can make anything sound good! I think the acoustics could've been better. I felt like I was listening to a 5-star singer with a 3-star music system. Neverthless, Erykah Badu is an excellent entertainer and funny, too!

  • Erykah Badu at the Warfield SF was killer!

by AnotherDylan on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

This is my third Erykah Badu show, and with her leading the 10 (or so) piece band, and funking out, and improvising, and looking and sounding great, she and her band do not disappoint. Probably the top modern funk act touring the country today. And if you've never been to the Warfield in SF, put it on your list, the theatre is one of, if not the best in the bay area, and it's got history too.

  • Erykah Badu

by Rashea on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Erykah Badu was fabulous at the Nokia Live, however I would suggest that there be an opening act or something to fill the time between when the door opens and when the show actually started. But as always she was great!!!

  • Erykah Badu shines at the Warfield

by LaVic on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen EBadu at the Paramount several months earlier, I almost decided not to catch her show at the Warfield. Wow, I am glad that I changed my mind. The Warfield is a perfect setting for her show and it was great to stand with fans right up next to the stage where we could see as well as hear her. She has such a commanding stage presence and I've never seen her put on a better show. There was a great mix a music from all of her albums, including 2 from Worldwide Underground, an album I've never heard her perform live. Her voice was beautiful as always and she has so much showmanship, it's hard to take your eyes off of her throughout the show. I was amazed at how long she played---1:00 am before we were heading out the door. No wonder she is one of my all time favorites. Don't miss the chance to see her when she comes to town!

  • Badu is the best!

by TeeZy on 7/14/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Please don't sleep on Erykah. I hope she will eventually get the shine she deserves! We are looking at one of the best if not the best of our generation. "I understand the game...."

  • Erykah Badu for Bjork lovers!

by Roosevelt on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu has the same love and interest in world music as so many great artists. She blends her natural stylings with rhythms and sounds from around the globe. If you're an admirer of Bjork's attempts to challenge and stimulate the senses then by all means you should be a fan of Ms. Badu as well. Great live, you will leave the show with a feel for street beats and otherworldly sounds, in other words, all the wiser!

  • Erykah was up to her normal standard...

by Edgu on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

... As usual she was truly mezmerizing. Playing quiet moments for long periods then building, building, building the energy in the building before bursting out fully in voice or movement to an ecstatic audience.

  • OMG!

by drebaby on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Ms. Badu was unforgettable as always!!!!! I went with a friend who had not had a BADU EXPERIENCE up close and personal, and she is now hooked too! You see I picks my friends like a pick my fruit! If she didn't like BADU, she would have to go! ;) Can't wait until the next time. Thanks Erykah for always being fabulous you!!!!!

  • Off the hook!!!

by SirAlex on 7/14/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I saw her last year at the Greek w The Roots Band, and it was just ok, then here at "The Grove of Anaheim" She was awesome, she went off... My girlfriend and I really, really enjoyed that night! She played what seemed like 2 hours. The Grove is a sic place to see a concert. Do yourself a favor and check out your favorite band there!

  • Eykah Badu at Humphreys San Diego

by Margolane on 7/14/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

Was not very good. The audience was loud & unruly. There was little to no security. I've gone to Humphrey's dozens of times and is usually nice. This was terrible. Her music has also changed - very unfocused & out of the norm. Will never see her again...sad I was such a fan in the past

  • such a intimate show of Badu's work!

    by cwright04 on 7/14/09CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Prior to this concert, I hadn't seen Badu perform since early 2000. However, 9 years later...and she does not disappoint. This was my first time at the Nokia Theater and I was amazed at how intimate the venue was. I felt like I was at a private club watching her perform. It was an absolutely amazing performance!

She was the bomb. I wished she had of sung Honey and Baglady. But she still my girl . Second time seeing her and just as good as the first. You get quality everytime.

  • JANELLE MONAE!!

by aintgotno on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

JANELLE MONAE, GREATEST OF ALL TIMES...ERYKAH BADU CLASSIC,

  • One of the Best Concerts of The Friggin' Year.

by EverettKidwell on 7/14/09The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

First off she begins the concert with Janelle Monae who is an amazing performer with a unique act of her own....and lemme tell you..that lil' woman can sing! She has pipes like none other and even crowd surfed toward the end of her performance. She matched her vocals even better than on CD and skyrocketed the energy level for Eryka's performance. When Badu came out....the crowd was in complete unison with her energy, bringing everything to the table from past hits to her present New Amerykah Album. She involved the crowd with one of my favorite songs, Soldier and had the entire Warfield Theatre do some acapella at the end with the, "Yesserie" part. I gotta tell you I had her tracks playing for the next two weeks on my ipod and that concert made me re-appreciate Erykas personal translation of Neo-Soul.
