About

Austin, Texas...Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey over the course of more than four decades. Along the way, his creations have encompassed repertoire that cross pollinate genres which include rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical and even country. Inevitably, E.J. says it best in sharing, "It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day", he explains, "If it doesn't have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project".

During the pandemic, the Grammy-winning guitarist, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist released weekly donation-based "Mini Guitar Lessons" benefiting Food Banks across the country and worked in the studio on previously un-released tracks and new recordings. These tracks resulted in the release of 2 new albums entitled "The Book Of Making" and "Yesterday Meets Today" in July of 2022 on Blue Élan Records. The purchase of both albums includes the keys to a third album, "Takeouts" which includes unreleased and alternate recordings of songs available as an exclusive download.

Throughout his career, Johnson has approached music as a healing force, a way to enhance the listener's consciousness, and conjure joy and inspiration. More than a year into the Pandemic , and because of the Pandemic, he reflects that this approach has become reinforced and more enhanced.

The 2023 Treasure Tour will feature some of his previously unreleased gems, some older classics and some new soon-to-be favorites.

    Guitar Masters

by FPD41 on 10/4/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

"The Guitar Masters" Eric Johnson, Andy Mckee, and Peppino D'Agostino. Absolutely one of the best concerts I have ever been to! While I would have loved to have seen and heard Les Paul in person, I am perfectly content to have heard and met arguably his finest protoege and rountinely ranked #1 acoustic guitarist in the world Eric Johnson! The performance was outstanding, sound quality was superb and the performers were real gentleman. It was my youngest son's first concert ever and when you are able to meet/talk to, receive signautres from and have your pic taken with all of the performers, all on your first concert event, well the rest of the concerts he will see will pale in comparison and have high standards to meet! I know almost aeveryone who follows guitar music has heard Eric, but if you are looking for some of the best guitar music anywhere, you owe it to yourself to check Peppino D'Agostino and Andy McKee as well! FANTASTIC show!

Cool, Intimate evening with 3 amazing musicians

by eman118 on 10/4/10Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

I highly recommend this show if you've not experienced it. All three players show off their amazing musical prowess and allow their stylistic differences to blend extremely well. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this was a 100% acoustic show (other than E. Johnson playing some piano at times). I really enjoyed Andy Mckee's tone and use of percussive playing (ie: beating the crap out of his guitar!) to enhance his music. Bravo! When Andy strapped on a Harp guitar, he had me at 'Hello'!

    Best Of The Best

by Jasper175 on 12/28/09B.B. Kings NYC - New York

Can I say I have had to repurchase his CDs because I over used them. Word's can't describe his sound, but I think he took guitar lessons from God. I see him in NYC at BBKings and any other place he goes. He plays what's in people's hearts!

As expected, Mr. Johnson provide a wonderful experience. He played songs the fans all would recognize like Zap or Rain. He also did some cover songs from Jimi Henricks and Robert Johnson. It as a great concert and I am glad I attended.

Eric Johnson shrouded by poor sound

by phyrewurk on 8/31/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

First of all Eric Johnson didn't come on until very late, it was 45 min after the first band finished, half the house was asleep by the time he started! The gear was already there, they just had to clear out the first bands stuff. Eric Johnson's performance was amazing as ever, but the volume in the intimate House of Blues was excruciating! Even with earplugs my ears were ringing the next day. I hate to wear ear plugs because that muffles the highs, but I had no choice if I wanted to survive this show. What is up!? I know HOB is capable of good sound, I've heard it. I just don't get it. I also would have liked to have heard more of Eric's stuff featuring his finesse and creative progressions, but he chose to make this more of a blues night with several covers as well...I understand an artist's choice, but wasn't my favorite. The opening act should have been something other than a SRV starter kit. This crowd came to see an awesome player in Eric Johnson and was geared for that, so starting with another guitarist was not what I wanted to see...maybe a singer or keyboardist or even something acoustic? I will go to see Eric next time he is in town, providing it is not HOB.

    Seminar on guitar

by forrest4rest on 8/28/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

It was like a seminar on guitar sound and technique. Four amps all miked separately. The Gibson SG was nice to see and hear. I thought I heard some Who Live at Leads. I think they did a tribute to Entwhistle. The Hendrix and Clapton was nice to hear done HIS way. The bass player was also worth a show by himself.

    TBoneReviews

by TBoneTom on 8/28/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

I've enjoyed Eric for years now and he didn't disappoint. Someone once said that this great guitarist has more nuance in his little finger than most of his colleagues have in their entire bodies. Eric is so good that this is not necessarily a slight on his colleagues. It's great to watch the best in the world perform at their specialty and Eric still seems the best in the world. I bought a ticket for my son who is in his mid-twenties. It turned out to be a great evening of cross-generational sharing. Thanks, Eric, for once again sharing your extraordinary talent.

    Eric Johnson was classic!

by stratdr on 8/28/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I've seen Eric Johnson in concert so many times and he seems to get better every time. It could only have been better if he had played more blues! Understand, I'm not complaining, I've always been moved by his soulful style and tone with his blues playing.

    Eric Johnson is incredible

by Onawhim on 8/28/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The Dallas House of Blues is a great place to see a show. Eric Johnson ripped through his own material (which I didn't know besides Cliffs of Dover) and played Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Jimi Hendrix. The man is an incredible musician. Alien Love Child completes him; the rhythm section rocked.
