ERASURE IN CONCERT:

Nearly three decades after their debut, British synthpop duo Erasure continue to reign supreme on dance floors around the world. Combining the production skills of Vince Clark and the soaring vocals of Andy Bell, Erasure dominated European airwaves in the '80s and '90s with a massive string of hits that sound as fresh today as they did 25 years ago. Bell is a legendary live performer, maintaining an infectious energy and positivity as he lends his perfectly-preserved pipes to the love-drunk swoon of "Oh L'amour" and the uplifting message of "Chains of Love". The duo's unforgettable live shows never fail to spark impassioned dance parties among nostalgic fans, and their upcoming dates on the Violet Flame 2014 World Tour will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Erasure was formed in mid-'80s London by former Depeche Mode member Vince Clark and budding singer Andy Bell. Their 1985 debut album Wonderland failed to make much of an impact in Britain, but they hit the big time with their 1987 sophomore album The Circus, which remained on the UK Albums Chart for more than a year on the strength of hit singles "Sometimes" and "Victim of Love". The following year they achieved breakthrough success in America with the Top 20 hits "Chains of Love" and "A Little Respect", both from their third album The Innocents. That album was the first of five consecutive UK No. 1 records for the duo, a streak that culminated with 1994's I Say I Say I Say. With their 16th studio album The Violet Flame hitting shelves in 2014, Erasure will treat fans to a series of electrifying shows in support of the release.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Andy Bell is one hell of a performer and had a lot of energy to bring their songs to life...I remember looking around and seeing my fellow concertgoers smiling from ear-to-ear and having an amazing sing-along experience. Definitely money well spent."

"Andy and Vince were awesome. The new songs are great and it was a blast hearing the old songs once again."

"Simply amazing! Erasure kept the crowd happy and dancing throughout the whole show."

  • Erasure oh my

    by happyreaper on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Saw them in 1990, and again two nights ago. If you are a fan of this band, you will be thrilled. If not - they use a significant amount of prerecorded stuff, they've added two lovely ladies for the backup, and they are SPECTACULAR. The setlist is heavy on old hits, the new stuff is pretty great, Andy is campy as all get out. Recommended.

  • What has become of Erasure?

    by HUDSONKEN on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

This was one damn disappointing concert. Where to begin? The stage set could only be described as WTF? Futuristic shipwreck with gargoyles and some sort of celtic rose windows? Strange. The real problem of course was the music. Mostly an indistinguishable roar. Once the silicone ear plugs went in I could sort of hear some synth riffs and a bit of Andy Bell´s voice. Andy gave it his all, and Vince phoned it in. Even when Vince came downstage and strummed a guitar while Andy sang, there was simply no connection to the audience. A few highlights, THE INNOCENTS, DRAMA, and in an interesting move they let the very good backup girls shine on CHAINS OF LOVE. Too much of this concert was devoted to the new stuff which oddly enough has not been released yet. What I could hear of the new stuff sounded pretty boring.

  • Synthpop Revelation Chapter: Erasure!

by TheFinalMan on 9/15/11Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Andy Bell and Vince Clarke of Erasure were in top form and put on an incredible synthpop retrospective of their old hits combined with several new tracks from their forthcoming album. I last saw them on the "Nightbird" tour in Orlando at the House of Blues and this show was even more incredible. I couldn't stop tapping my feet and singing along to the musical sensation that is ERASURE. Andy Bell was such a ham, talking and commenting between songs as well. Hats of to Erasure for performing the B-side to their first single "Who Needs Love Like That"...definitely a deep cut that still holds up today. Great show! Pop perfection!

  • Erasure was phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely from the start to finish, GREAT!! the dead on music, quality sound, theatrics, totally entertaining! Whole crowd was into show, Andy showed suprise and loved it, and so thankful!! My wife stated it was a really good show, definitely makes you go away wanting more and feeling good!!

  • Erasure shines again!

    by DrEmerson on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

26 years later and Andy Bell and Vince Clarke continue to make magic. While the sound system at Terminal 5 was loud in such a way that the music was not always easy to follow - any problem with lyrics was solved by the audience who shouted the words to all of the songs except for Alien (a gem on the forgotten Loveboat album) and the five new songs... Vince was his stoic self in a cute hat and Andy's voice sounded as good as ever and it is clear that we don't need to hear him autotuned (just a better sound system). In fact his rendition of Oh L'Amour gave me chills...Outside of the sound system the only two complaints I have are: 1) I wanted more than the 90 minute set so we could hear more of the back catalog outside of the singles and 2) Andy seemed distracted. I look forward to the new album which has more of a dancy/electronica (thanks to Frankmusik) sound than is typical of erasure. I like "When I break it all down" and particularly loved the new track "A whole lotta love run riot." In fact outside of the new single, that track caught seemed to catch everyone's attention. Frankmusik sadly sounded bad and really not a great opener. He sounded better to me on his 1st studio album. His music is electronic and fun but misses the depth/range of erasure. Of course I am not sure who would be a good opener for erasure at this point...

  • Erasure packs a punch!

    by Miguelazo on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Andy is a man that is without a doubt the heart and soul of Erasure, every bit the Freddy of Queen, add a bit of Cher, and he fully engages the crowd with a wink here and a dance there, his persona is well complemented by his enormous vocal range. Every new song was followed by a classic oldie, so the one new one old was mostly enjoyable. The new songs aren't any bad either. Vince's presense was great in the guitar playing duo, but for the most part he stood in the back. The backup singers are superb, great interaction with the crowd. Note that the ticket said 7PM start. I got there at 7PM and was still able to grab a taco and a few drinks. They started letting people into the concert hall at about 730PM. The opening act was at 8PM. Erasure must have been out a bit after 9PM. Went through 1030PM. All the good songs were played, Andy's energy was outstanding. The backup singer were all smiles and coordinated dance moves. Overall outstanding!!!

  • Erasure better than ever

Andy & Steven never disappoint. Wild, free & not missing a dance beat. New album seems interesting as well. Crowd at terminal 5 rose to the ocassion!

  • ERASURE was as vibrant as in the 80s

    by walvarez on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

ERASURE together with PSB are my two favorite synthpop bands of all times, and they haven't disappointed me yet. They keep the same essence as in the 80s and early 90s. I'm glad that I got to see them both live since I didn't get this opportunity before.

  • Magic, pure Magic!

    by Dagmar626 on 9/15/11Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From the moment they all walked on stage to the sad moment they walked off, it was a magical moment. Andy looked amazing, and sounded even better. Vince is just genius. The girls? Well, the girls are always the cherry on top of the scrumptious dessert. Thank you so much. It's Friday and I'm still high from the show. Please don't stay away so long. I absolutely love the new stuff!

by swurlgurl on 9/7/11The Ritz Ybor - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

Overall it was a great concert. The vocals were spot-on, lots of energy from Andy and the setlist was great! Even the new songs were nice. If you're a fan of them, they should be on your bucket list of concerts to see!

  • Off the chain!

    by Skipster74 on 9/6/11Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! The only nit pick is that the backup singers just were not comfortable moving around, but this is only the 3rd stop on the tour so I guess they're still figuring that out. Beyond that, Andy and Vince were just bringing it and the energy in the place was hot.

  • Erasure Tomorrow's World is a wonderful place.

by KKMMEE on 9/6/11Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Erasure's older music is still relevant and shook the venue to it's foundation with the crowd's reaction. I can already hear the mixes of the songs from their soon to be released album on the dance floor. Andy was energetic and engaging as ever. And his voice is spot on! It was great to see Vince pop out from behind the gargoyle for a couple of songs. This was my 5th time seeing Erasure in concert. Though, the last time I saw them was the Wild tour , nothing has been lost. In fact, this may have been my favorite show of the 5.
