About

Elton John in Concert

Sir Elton Hercules John, English singer, songwriter and pianist, has been a fixture of the soft rock and pop music scene since the early 1960s and toured the globe extensively in his decades-long career. John's 2016-2018 Wonderful Crazy Night Tour has taken him throughout North America, the Middle East and Europe, as did his 2012-2013 Rocket Man 40th Anniversary Tour and 2011-2012 Greatest Hits Tour. John's musical style is marked by his flashy piano work and distinctive lead vocals. He is best known for his easy-listening rock and pop tunes, though, he is equally accomplished at creating works for films and the stage. His live shows combine his expert musicianship with flamboyant costumes and infectious energy, creating an atmosphere that enthralls audiences worldwide. Elton John's musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades. He managed to have a charting Top 40 hit every year from 1970 to 1996 and has crafted timeless melodies like "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Crocodile Rock," and "Bennie & The Jets." He's been nominated for nearly 30 Grammy Awards, and won eight, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and a Hall of Fame award.

Elton John Background

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, in Pinner, England, John was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing piano at age four, and won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at age 11. After leaving the Academy in 1961, he made the decision to pursue a career in music and joined his first band, Bluesology. John met his longtime writing partner, lyricist Bernie Taupin, in the mid-1960s, and since then has collaborated with him on more than 30 albums. Classic albums like his self-titled Elton John and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player are considered masterpieces to many a rock fan, and works like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road catapulted John to his legendary status. Though John is an icon in the field of music, his worldly influence stretches beyond songwriting and performing. In 1992, he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with the express purpose of supporting HIV prevention, education and care for those living with the disease.

    Not enough Piano

    by Bubcub1622 on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

I was hoping to hear more of the piano and less of the supporting band. His supporting cast drowned out the piano, and his voice, which are Elton John’s trademarks. The band was so loud my head was throbbing the next day. I hope they turn it down and let us listen to the man and his piano.

    Great show!

by Stephen on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

I've seen Elton 4 times on this final tour and the show keeps just getting better and better. Incredible performances...incredible sound...and tremendous fun!

My 4th EJ concert and the worst.

by Strawberrygiraffe on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

No issues with Ticketmaster. The band drowned EJ’s voice, which I fixed by wearing earplugs then I could hear him. The bright, glaring lights that were periodically flashed towards the audience were blinding. I should have taken sunglasses. The Chase stadium facility is nasty. I prefer smaller venues. If this had been my first experience at an EJ concert I would have never gone again however, this was his and my last concert.

    Wonderful experience

by Jeff on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

A massive stage and venue. Well over 50000. The video screens and sound was awesome. I saw the Yellow Brick Road tour in 1973 at Big Surf on the beach with a small crowd. I feel like I got to complete a lifelong experience paralelling his career with the contrasting concerts. A wonderful experience.

    Elton Experience

by KKRuth on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

This was my first time seeing Elton John in concert and I loved it. It was non stop music the entire night. There did seem to be a problem with acoustics. It was hard at times to understand all of the words he sang. The energy in the audience was great and it was awesome to see such a legend in person.

    Captain Fantastic!

by Sooz on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Phenomenal! Everything about this was seamless from buying tickets, pre show information and seeing Elton! The show is 2.5 hours of electrifying splendor. Thank you, Rocket Man!

    Elton still rocks

by Joe R. on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Wonderful show. Elton and his band are amazing. The musicianship was top tier, highlighted by the man on the piano. Wow! The venue wasn't quite equipped to handle the capacity crowd, but that didn't take away from the experience of the show.

    Legend delivers

by Dale Reeves on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

The performance of Elton John was all I expected and more. He is still on top of his game vocally and has the energy of a teen. The band is TIGHT and engaging. All that said. The cavernous venue was quite a disappointment. The sound was LOUD but hollow and replete with echo, echo, echo. Add to that the $650 seats we had that were essentially on the floor, though behind a concrete barrier, providing a great sight-line to......the monitors. The only glimpse of the performers we had was when walking down the steps to our "certified platinum" seating. A $30 ticket would had delivered the same experience. Watching Elton John's last Phoenix appearance on TV.

    Great concert!!

by Katrinka on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

We enjoyed the entertainment! Elton John is a great entertainer! The videos during the concert made it even better! Past memories! I saw him 30 years ago. Just as good of an entertainer, but could tell he wasn’t moving as easily as he did back then. Of course none of us move as well now, as we do when we get to that age group!!

    Poor venue planning

by None on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

Elton John was amazing! The experience was unfortunately unforgettable in the wrong ways, subpar planning by the city as well as the venue. The traffic was not controlled to get to the venue leaving people stuck in traffic for hours. The venue was even more poorly managed. Putting merchandise right by the main entrance caused for crowds of people waiting in long lines near the main points of exit. The amount of people made it feel very unsafe and should there been a serious emergency I’m certain there would have been a very grim outcome. There was no crowd control. When you get in a crowd of people and the crowd is moving you vs you moving with the crowd it’s time to leave. We unfortunately didn’t stay the entire concert because of this, we were concerned for our safety getting out of the venue. I’ve been to large concerts like this before and there was no where near the disorganized that this event had at this venue. I hope someone takes notice of this and makes changes to prevent something catastrophic from happening. I likely will never go to another concert sponsored by this location

    Chase venue logistics are awful

by MB on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

The Friday night show made all floor ticket holders shuffle through a single gate (J). And at that one point of entry had about 8 people putting floor entry wristbands. You don’t have to be a process expert to understand what happens with that kind of poor planning. Thousands of concert fans missed the start of the show because they stood in line for over 45 minutes for that nonsense. No other gate had that experience. Chase venue planners should be beyond embarrassed and apologetic. Floor ticket holders should get partial refunds. Every single one of them would have been in any other seat in the stadium on time, with a drink and food in hand well before Benny and the Jets banged out. Shame on Chase planners.

    Chase Field sound quality

by Ken on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

We attended the Nov 12 Elton John concert at Chase Field in Phoenix. The concert was excellent!!!! But it was difficult to hear the lyrics. However, when we played back videos I took on my cell phone in the car ride back home, the lyrics were crystal clear. They were far superior to the live performance! Suggestion: take videos!!!!

    Elton John was so good

by Krissy on 11/15/22Chase Field - Phoenix

I believe he did 21 songs that he had on the Setlist. He did them straight through with no break, which is amazing and he was fun. He was cordial and he engage the audience. He talked to us he was just a delight. Love you, Elton
