About

Elton John in Concert

Sir Elton Hercules John, English singer, songwriter and pianist, has been a fixture of the soft rock and pop music scene since the early 1960s and toured the globe extensively in his decades-long career. John's 2016-2018 Wonderful Crazy Night Tour has taken him throughout North America, the Middle East and Europe, as did his 2012-2013 Rocket Man 40th Anniversary Tour and 2011-2012 Greatest Hits Tour. John's musical style is marked by his flashy piano work and distinctive lead vocals. He is best known for his easy-listening rock and pop tunes, though, he is equally accomplished at creating works for films and the stage. His live shows combine his expert musicianship with flamboyant costumes and infectious energy, creating an atmosphere that enthralls audiences worldwide. Elton John's musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades. He managed to have a charting Top 40 hit every year from 1970 to 1996 and has crafted timeless melodies like "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Crocodile Rock," and "Bennie & The Jets." He's been nominated for nearly 30 Grammy Awards, and won eight, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and a Hall of Fame award.

Elton John Background

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, in Pinner, England, John was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing piano at age four, and won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at age 11. After leaving the Academy in 1961, he made the decision to pursue a career in music and joined his first band, Bluesology. John met his longtime writing partner, lyricist Bernie Taupin, in the mid-1960s, and since then has collaborated with him on more than 30 albums. Classic albums like his self-titled Elton John and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player are considered masterpieces to many a rock fan, and works like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road catapulted John to his legendary status. Though John is an icon in the field of music, his worldly influence stretches beyond songwriting and performing. In 1992, he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with the express purpose of supporting HIV prevention, education and care for those living with the disease.

    Elton was FANTASTIC!!!!!!

    by Shiloh13 on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

Elton & The Band were beyond words. It was well worth the wait, as the lines getting into the TD Garden were excruciating!!! A lot of great old songs, ah.......... memories. His piano playing was amazing.... How does he do it for 2 & 1/2 hours?? Truly unforgettable!!

    Elton was awesome!

by LJLP on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

I've always loved Elton, but have never seen him live before. If you get the chance, don't pass it up! I've seen some artists in the past who play great songs, but just don't put their heart on stage. Elton John is not one of those musicians! It's obvious from his stage energy that he loves to perform! Every time a song ended, I assumed the show was over, but then he'd play another!! For THREE HOURS! It was amazing that he still had a voice left! And he played crowd favotites. It's no wonder the queen loves him! Well worth the ticket price!

Unfortunate example of bad crew ruining good show

by Anonymous on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

If I had to guess I would say they either didn't do a sound check or they had a shortened check. I have never been to a concert in a venue like the Garden where the sound was so bad, in fact I have never noticed the sound/balancing of instruments at a concert before this. In the first few songs the piano was not clear at all. Elton's mic was not clear initially either. That improved two or three songs into the show. The other instruments were poorly balanced with each other until late in the show. At one point the bongos were louder than the piano while the piano was being featured. They were also louder than the guitar at several points. At some point after the halfway mark I realized that I hadn't thought about how poor the sound was in a few songs. With a few exceptions the sound was pretty good after the midpoint of the show. Finally, and I realize this was probably limited to my section of seats, but there was a large shiny box behind the guitar player that reflected the spotlight right back at us for most of the show. It was so bright that the people around us were trying to digure out why there would be a big light aiming back at the audience. For much of the show it was painful to look toward the guitar player. Unfortunately, these technical issues marred a fantastic performance and set list. Otherwise I would have given the show 5 stars.

Elton John continues to rock in his 60's. His voice was a bit strained but the band offered up great harmonies to help out. Good seats for us! The people behind us were drunk and obnoxious though, and were certainly tone deaf from hearing their attempts to sing. When asked to quiet down they tried to pick fights. Sad way to enjoy great music.

    Elton played for 2.5 hours!

by dpsrams on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

Saw Elton John at TD Garden, Boston. Acoustic at TD sucks! However Elton & band played for 2.5 hours. Played many of the old favorites. For those going to see him be advised that the stage is set up where he is on the left side - not center stage. Those on the left will benefits the most. I also had a floor seat about 60 feet from stage. It sucks when everyone in front of you stands up so you can't see. I think I would have been better in the stands. Encore consisted of two songs. He also signed autographs for those in the front row area near him (like I said - left side of stage) at concert end. T-shirts sold for $40-45. That sucks!!

Seeing Elton John in person on stage was absolutely phenomenal. He is such a great showman and performer.. the big screens helped a lot in in watching the performance.

    Elton was fantastic!!!!

by Anonymous on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

I've been going to see Elton in concert since the 70's when i was in high school, and I have to say that this show was the best I've seen in years! He was unbelievable! His voice sounded the better than it has in previous shows. His set list was awesome, got to hear some oldies that I haven't heard him sing live in a long, long time. Look forward to seeing him again soon

    by AB12z on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

Sixty six years young and still at the top of his game giving us a three hour nonstop show with a great mix of old and new. He also did a nice tribute to veterans past and present.

    Still a great!

by terrilk on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

Elton John was wonderful! As so many have said, he played for almost 3 hours straight; both classics and new material. He even signed autographs before the last encore, which was the great "Crocodile Rock". Also, if you've never heard or seen 2Cellos, PLEASE look them up on YouTube. They opened the performance and played with Elton's band on several songs. Also, great backup singers and a wonderful and talented band. Just great!

Master showman, full of talent, amazing show!

by CTmagic on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

EJ played for two and a half hours straight! No intermission, no break.....just lots of piano playing and singing. Made it look so effortless. Stepped off stage for a brief moment at the end, then came back and played a 30-minute encore. It was incredible. Loved the camera on the piano that showed him playing. Band and back-up singers were also really impressive.

It wasn't amazing, but I'm glad I went

by Starvis on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

I'm glad I'm able to say I saw Elton John but it wasn't anything amazing. For that kind of money I'd expect a costume change or something. The music was great but I could get great music at home. I just wanted something "more". I'm still glad I went but I don't know if I'd do it again.

    Elton John was FANTASTIC

    by Di1961 on 11/15/13TD Garden - Boston

We had a great time. I was worried because we'd heard he doesn't do his old songs. Not true & he did at least 20 of his best. It was wonderful.
