Thought it was a play I was taking my best friend too. It’s her favorite Christmas movie. Spent over 200 dollars for two tickets and a screen came down to watch the movie like we watch it at home. Yet the orchestra played all the music. Really. Wish I could get a refund. We were very disappointed thought they was acting on stage
The show was fine, but I don’t think I, and quite a few other people at the show, realized that it was just watching the movie with an orchestra barely being noticed playing the movie score. When you hear “in concert”, you think maybe the orchestra will do something interesting or have a singer come out or really anything? But instead, they sheepishly played the score to the movie while we all just watched the movie on a fairly small screen for the space.
I thought we were going to watch a show on stage, not the movie on a big screen. The ad was misleading, and while I should have looked at the fine print more closely…it also should have been way more clear that this was just a showing of the MOVIE. Very disappointing.
We go to the Saenger 2x a year to see plays. At Christmas we always try to catch a Christmas play. This year they had Elf w/ a live orchestra. It was fun and very relaxed. There were lots of little kids there who seemed to love it. I’d recommend going to one of these movie+orchestra showing at least once!
Got scammed trying to buy tickets on line so it was a very expensive rerun of an old movie.
It was only after I bought tickets I realized this wasn’t a musical but a symphony playing to the movie. My kids were a little disappointed but the symphony was amazing. I probably wouldn’t have bought tix to this if I knew we were just watching a movie we’ve seen a thousand times.
Not at all what was expected. I feel duped. They played the movie and had an orchestra play the music. Not worth the $80+
Waste of money even the kids wanted to leave. 700’dollars to watch the movie
I so enjoy taking my family yearly to the Wang for a Christmas show. This year we experienced Elf in Concert. Let me first say, almost every person sitting around me thought this presentation was Elf the live performance. I have seen , White Christmas, The Grinch, The Christmas story and Cirque Christmas. All 10+ ratings. This year I felt it was overpriced for basically seeing Elf the movie on the big screen. $152.00 per ticket. Quite a price for a movie. Yes, the Orchestra was wonderful, but almost overpowered by the movie audio. I am sorry to write this review, but perhaps next time you clearly indicate this is just the movie version with some music.
This was mot what was advertised. It was awful. It was just the movie on a big screen mot an actual musical VERY MISSLEADING
I didn’t realize they were screening the movie Elf and playing orchestral live music to the movie. Had I realized this is what the show entailed, I’d have passed. The music talent was very good
Theater is beautiful! Staff were so polite and helpful! Music, orchestra, we’re excellent!
This was a total waste of money! Not what I thought it would be. All they did was play the movie on a big screen while someone played a violin. Waste!!!!
This could’ve been a great experience with our family, but it ended up being a very frustrating experience. ALL ages of children were allowed, resulting in crying, talking during the show, lots of in and out down the aisles. I could hardly focus. The 9 month old baby behind me was very distracting. It honestly makes me not want to attend any family friendly shows at the Saenger. In my opinion, there should be a minimum age for all shows, but anyone under 8 cannot uphold the respectful courtesies of a theatre. $385 for an unenjoyable experience.
See above. Better if it were a play. Movie audio lost most of the time by orchestra band.
It was so fun and put everyone in the Christmas spirit. The LPO was fantastic and added such a richness to the movie experience.
Gorgeous venue, was a little disappointed to that it was the movie being shown with some live music in the background that was hard to hear. The orchestra was beautiful and we wish we heard more of them. Ended up leaving at intermission as it was an unexpected showing - we anticipated something different as advertised as a “musical”
This was not a play or live action theatrical performance. The advertisement for the presale did not accurately describe that the event would be watching the movie Elf on a large screen with subtitles as a live orchestra played the movie’s soundtrack on stage. Many people left at intermission. I was almost one of them; however, we stayed for the kids. I will be scrutinizing future event advertisements to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
We thought we were going to a play. It was the movie elf with an orchestra. Complete disappointment. I would have never got second row to a movie. terrible.
