EELS Concert Schedule and Tour

With their highly anticipated 11th studio album hitting shelves in 2014, Eels continue to carry the torch for funny yet emotional alternative rock. Packed with clever wordplay and eloquent observations about the comedy of life, songs like "Novocaine for the Soul" and "Your Lucky Day in Hell" garnered the band a serious cult following in the '90s, and nearly 20 years later they've lost none of their incisive wit. True to form, Eels' 2013 shows featured several encore fake outs that saw them repeatedly return to the stage after the crew had begun to breakdown, with all signs pointing to more shenanigans on their 2014 world tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by singer-songwriter Mark Oliver Everett, a.k.a. "E," in 1995, Eels' 1996 debut album Beautiful Freak was a surprise hit, making its way on to the Billboard 200 with catchy alt-rock singles like "Novocaine for the Soul" and "Susan's House." The band's overnight success landed them on tour with the likes of Pulp and Fiona Apple, paving the way for a string of acclaimed albums in the '00s. Following the 2013 release of their tenth studio album Wonderful, Glorious,  the band surprised fans with the announcement of another new album in 2014, coinciding with a summer world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Eels rocked Webster Hall. Great guitars and drums. amazing sound and lights. And E is always a blast! Fun show all around. These guys never disappoint."

"Great show, the band is really tight. E is dedicated to putting on a great show. They did a big encore at the end that was amazing."

"The Eels never disappoint. They always add a unique spin on their music and presentation"

    Eels St Louis

by BC on 5/7/19Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

Awesome show. E sang all the hits, and some deep cuts too. Prizefighter was tremendous, as was Fresh Blood. Band looked like they were having a blast, and all of us in the audience were right there with them.

by Goaltender5 on 6/11/18House of Blues Boston presented by Cricket Wireless - Boston

This is how concerts should be , minus the uptight policy about cameras. My onky suggestion for the band is to skip opening with 2 cover songs , you have so many great songs of your own , you coukd have done beautiful freak and susans house.?still it was a great show and superb job by the guys mixing the sound

    eels

by doctorofrock on 6/10/18The Fillmore - San Francisco

Deconstruction is right. Deconstructed his acoustic work, and reconstructed into thrash-let's get-out-of -here-quick eels covers. Meh

    Eels - San Francisco Filmore

by StJohnHalfpenny on 6/3/18The Fillmore - San Francisco

Tight two-hour set by a stripped down Eels quartet. E, The Chet, Big Al, and newcomer Little Joe.came to play and didn’t disappoint. (No Knuckles, no Butch, no Kool G Murder, no P-Boo) The song list was mostly from the past (many with typical Eels concert alternate arrangements), with some of the new songs mixed in. Great show with the usual witty insights from E. I try to never miss this band when they’re in town.

    good but not great

by Pondling on 6/21/14Apollo Theater - New York

The first time I saw the Eels with MC Honky ranks as one of my top ten concerts of all time. Hearing them with an orchestra set up only made me want more from a first time experience at the Apollo Theatre. The hugging in the aisles I will always remeber. However, it barely lasted an hour. For the money, I would expect at least a longer show. I want the full orchestra show at Radio City someday and would pay for it but they have to make it worth it.

    EELS were awesome!!

by WENDY24 on 6/16/14Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I must admit that I went to the show in hopes that I would see Steve Perry. :0) Though I was disappointed that Steve was not there, I was pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful and fun show that the EELS put on! E is a character and definitely gained a new fan that night! I will go see them again any time they are in my area!

Super performance with a super surprise!!!

by GiMarie on 6/16/14Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

From the moment the Eels stepped onto the stage, the magic started. Whether a long time fan or new to their style, this band draws you in because of their lyrics or the mulit instrumental tunes or maybe it's just their dynamic, nevertheless you will become a follower. Thanks E, Chet, Knucles, PBoo and Upright Al for a great night!!!

Mark is irreverent, always bantering with the audience. The Palace of Fine Arts is a great place for a concert, as the acoustics are amazing.

    Wonderful Glorious

by scooter59 on 6/15/14Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

I've seen eels many, many times before, but they have always been club shows with GA standing. This was the first time seeing Mr. E and band in a seated venue, and it was an absolute stunning evening of music. With the more subtle chamber pop songs from eels' most recent album, this was the perfect setting to hear the surprisingly intricate arrangements. This was the last night of the North American tour and Mr. E said he had that hanging over his head, but he and the band came through in a big way. After a full set full of new and classic material, the THIRD encore featured a guest vocalist by way of the band Journey, Steve Perry, who sang a mini set including an eels' song and three Journey covers. What an incredible end to the show, and the U.S. tour. Can't wait 'til next time.

    Eels were awesome, BUT...

by CremeBrule on 6/15/14Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

The entire time, I was waiting for them to play 2 of my favorite Eels songs. Their most popular, "Novocaine for the Soul" is one of them. Not only did they not play this song during the show, but they didn't even play it during the encore. We were screaming for them to play it. They also didn't play "Beautiful Freak" which is another awesome song of theirs made super famous in the movie, Shrek. Those 2 songs were the main reason I bought 2 tickets!! Seriously, they need to think more about their fans and what their fans want. I bet they're tired of playing those 2 songs, but it's what I came to the concert to hear, so was kind of disappointed. Great concert other than that!

    EELS amaze, as always!

by JDC818 on 6/14/14Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

What a beautiful night of music! Starting with Chelsea Wolfe, an ethereal beauty, with a hauntingly celestial voice, I was captivated by her, and her music. While I couldn't make out many of her lyrics, I got the feeling she was singing about something dark and deep, and I left the show knowing I will be looking into her music more. Kind of electronic, while folksy too, she didn't have a whole band, just her with her guitar, a violin player who hit great vocal harmonies with her, and a keyboard/guitar/effects guy. It worked. Now, on the E and the EELS. One of my long time favorites for many reasons, too heavy to discuss here. Dressed in suits, which complimented the beautiful Orpheum Theater, a fantastic group of musicians took the stage. Opening up with a version of "When You Wish Upon A Star", which really set the tone of the night, they played an incredible set of mellow, soul searching songs about anguish, pain, and loss that E himself was making fun of for being such a bummer, and for taking bummer to a whole new level. A collection of new material, and older gems that took me to levels of joy and despair on all accounts. This is not to say that the show was depressing in any means, E was in rare form, cracking jokes, telling stories, he even came out into the crown to give out hugs, He made his way up the center isle, out into the lobby and back down the side isle, receiving much love and respect form the admiring fans. Very cool E, I know that wasn't easy for him. He picked up the pace with a rockin' version of "I Like Birds", and whether it was planned or coincidence, it was cool how the lights went mostly green when he played "My Beloved Monster" (you know this song from Shrek). Closing the set with 2 new songs off of The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett album, E dispensed with the "encore charade" and came right back to the stage for not 1 but 2 encores, the first being 3 of his classic songs, and the second being 2 cover songs, Elvis Presley's "Can't Help falling In Love" which was just incredibly done, and Harry Nilsson's "Turn On Your Radio". After that it seemed the night was over, and that would have been a great night even had it been over, however, the night then turned EPIC, when E returned for a third encore, bring with him the one and only Mr. Steve Perry! And the crowd goes wild!!! Steve Perry came out for his third appearance on this EELS tour, which were the first times he had taken the stage in over 20 years! Leave it to E to be the one who made this incredible event happen. Steve Perry was jovial, telling stories and not missing a beat, singing first an EELS song that he felt a deep, painful connection with, as do I with the song called "It's A Motherf#%er". Hearing him sing that song, it sounded like it could have been his own, just beautiful. Then they did abridged versions of Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen" and Journey's "Open Arms" Steve Perry's voice is better than ever, and it was a very rare treat to see and hear, as he broke in a full version of "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin", now, those songs he had already done at his other 2 appearance with the EELS, taking nothing away, they were remarkable, he closed the show by singing, for the first time in 25 years, Journey's "Lights". Telling the story of how the song was written in Los Angeles, it was one of the greatest vocal performances I have ever been blessed enough to witness. The crowd loved him, he loved the crowd, there was a magical feeling in the air. Was an honor to be able to witness this legendary night of music, thank you E for all you are and have done for us, you have no idea of the magnitude of which you have positively affected my family!
