About

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

    Better than "Cake or Death?"

by Quenchers on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

So Fantastic! (obviously) This was his first show for his new American Tour, so we got to hear jokes that he wasn't sure would work... it was cool to see him second guess himself at times and make notes of the kinks or say, "well, I'm not sure how to end that scene." Highlights: Latin is hard scene where Eddie portrays 2 Roman soldiers trying to convey the message "Alexander is coming!" in 5-7 minutes of fakish latin. God lives on the dark side of the moon with his pal the squirrel, "Oh man! it was terrible!", a velociraptor wearing a cap disguised as a human, and a giant squid who journals throughout the course of history. Overall, his routine was more of a call for peace and human harmony, verses religion and fundamentalism. This was a refreshing and unexpected bout of activism on the part of everyone's favorite action transvestite. "Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story" - premiering Feb 2010!

    Laughed so hard I cried...

by Blacklilly on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

Eddie Izzard always amazes me on his history knoledge. And the fact he takes that history and makes it funny is the reason he is one of my favorite comics of all time. I am so thankful he came to Chicago; I had wanted to see him for so long, I even took the night off work! The only thing I thought was strainge was the seating. Why would you section off all the strait on seating - even though there were jumbo moniters for people to see the show. At any rate, the show was amazing, and I can't wait to see him again!

    Eddie is Mad!!!

by DanitaCabernet on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

GREAT show! As usual, intelligent banter and very dry sarcasm/wit to make his point about the absurdities of life. He didn't cross dress this time -- and I think there were many of us in the audience who missed this part of his act. However, he was on stage a full two hours -- with a 30 minute break. There wasn't as much edge to this particular show, but still funny and well worth the time. Thanks for the memories Eddie!!

I am a big long time fan of eddie and I was thrilled to be there. I am not living in chicago but the center was easy to find and our seats were easy to find. I have been in prettier theaters but it was serviceable. The people around me were having a great time too. well worth it. eddie was inspiring and i felt lifted.

    Eddie Izzard is brilliant!

by eccomusica on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

Eddie Izzard is a master of smart, thought-provoking humor. Whether he is talking about the history of civilization or riffing in a patois of Latin, German, French and English, he keeps his audience engaged and rolling with laughter.

    The Unstoppable Izzard

by JuliaRatt on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

Chicago was Izzard's first stop on his 2010 US Tour. The first show is always the rockiest, with new jokes being tried for the first time (for a European playing an American audience, that can be doubly difficult) and the patter being ironed out in front of the first live audience. Even with a few seconds' hesitation and the occasional "huh?" moment from the arena, Eddie Izzard was at his hilarious best and gave a stellar performance. His energy, his audience rapport, and his ability to seamlessly blend classic themes with all-new material remain unparalleled in the comedic world. This was a show I'd been on the edge of my seat to see, and I was definitely NOT disappointed!

    Eddie Izzard Chicago

by ksPz on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

The first half of the show was slow, but the second half was classic Eddie. Definitely some memorable jokes in the second half. My big problem was that a few of the jokes were told in his "Stripped" tour so we received a double dose of 3-5 jokes. I'd still go again, I just hope the jokes are new the next time we see him. We will see him again.

    Eddie always delights

by Honeybunski on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

If you are a fan, then you know what a great experience Eddie's live show can be. He is as clever and sophisticated as ever. I also want to compliment the venue. I was on the main floor "ice," but with the gigantic videos and lighting, I felt like Eddie was standing in front of me the whole night.

If you don't know who Eddie is, YOU NEED TO!

    by Blueoctoberfan2 on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

I've been to countless comedy shows in my lifetime. That said, I've never been to one in an arena such as the United Center! I was worried about how a Comedy show would be pulled off in such a large space. Would we get the same intimate feel that makes Stand up work? Well, Eddie made it work brilliantly! His show was 2.5 hours of SMART comedy. I'd go again tonight, if he was here.

by StJoan on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

The man is indescribably hilarious and intelligent. His bit on software upgrades alone had me gasping. If you can't see him live, get his DVDs - ALL of his DVDs. He is not to be missed.

    Eddie was awesome

by tequilaria on 1/9/10United Center - Chicago

Show was great, the tweets before and during intermission were fun, as was the fan camera. Even though he is performing in a big theater, the performance did seem quite intimate - and thus, the tour name was bang on spot. Needs bigger selection of souvineers. Other than that, a great evening.
