About

Dweezil Zappa was born on September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, the son of the iconic musician Frank Zappa. Over the past three decades, Dweezil has carved out an eclectic and illustrious career that spans music, television, film, and entrepreneurship.

A Grammy-winning guitarist, Dweezil has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 2000 concerts performed worldwide. Known for his masterful performances and deep connection to his father's music, he's returning to concert stages in 2024 for the first time since the 2020 Hot Ratz Live! Tour, continuing to guide fans through the thrilling and sophisticated world of his father's music.

His virtuosity on the guitar is matched only by his prolific compositional skills, which have generated numerous original works spanning multiple albums including "Confessions of Deprived Youth" (1991) and "Via Zammata" (2015). Notably, his compositions have even been performed by a 100-piece orchestra in Holland, showcasing his versatility and command of orchestral arrangements. His music effortlessly traverses genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of rock, fusion, and experimental sounds, all while maintaining a signature style that is unmistakably his own. In addition to his solo work, Dweezil has collaborated with an impressively varied roster of artists, including Edward Van Halen, Deep Purple, Lisa Loeb, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai, among others.

In 2020, Dweezil further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the industry by completing construction on "Hikari," a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. As a sought-after audio mix engineer, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple's legendary album "Machine Head" in 2024, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education. He frequently shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching guitar, both through his own music camp, "Dweezilla," and online lessons. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with a diverse array of musicians all while honoring the legacy of his father, Frank Zappa.

In all his endeavors, Dweezil remains committed to upholding integrity and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity. As he continues to innovate and inspire, Dweezil Zappa stands as a true luminary in the world of music and beyond.

Excellent show at the House of Blues Dallas. Dweezil Zappa and his band are extremely talented musicians. It was quirky, cool, and just overall a killer show. We are so happy we went. I almost bought the front row tickets. During the show, my husband said he wished I had.

Hot Rats is the theme for tonight. Wonderfully played in its entirety. And lots more prime tunes to fill out the night. Almost makes me forget that a girl 3 seats down blew lunch all over and passed out in a sea of beer. Dweezil had us going!!!

    A must see band

by m. on 2/18/20The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

This is by far my favorite touring band. I never miss. They did not come to the San Diego area this year so I made the trek to the Canyon in Agoura Hills. The show was fantastic. It amazes me that this band just keeps getting better. A Scheila Gonzalez sax solo is worth the price of admission but Dweezil always blows me away with his skills. I took my nephew and his girlfriend for the first time. After two hours he said his brain was full. I get it. Franks music is very dense and can be overwhelming after a while. I never get tired of it though and these performances keep these important works alive. I’ve seen this band at least 15 times now. Depending where I am sitting I focus on a different player at each performance. This time watching Kurt on bass was a great treat. My first event at the Canyon and it was good. I think the coach house in San Juan Capistrano (a similar dinner venue) is somewhat less crowded at the tables and the sound system a bit better. These shows are always loud and I bring ear protection, but this one was so loud the sound from the in house speakers blared to the point of distortion. Even if you don’t know Franks music this is a band you should see. The musicianship of the players is just too good to miss.

    No assigned seats

by f. f. on 2/18/20The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

There were no assigned seats and it was not informed when I bought the tickets. We were 4 people that ended up seating apart which ruined the idea of enjoying the show together. 1 star As for the show, great trip to the memory line. Sounding like Frank is impossible but they are good anyways. 4 stars

    Blessing in disguise

by The King on 2/17/20The Rose - Pasadena

Great show, great food! If you don't mind being packed in like a sardine. Right up front! But I literally had to lift my chair up above my table to turn it 90 degrees so I could straddle it with one leg on each side. Couldn't stretch my legs out at all. And if you needed to go to the men's room? Good luck. there was no room for exit! It seems they would fare better to charge more for food and tickets. And spread the seating out a bit. Luckily Dweezil and crew made up for it! Especially Sheila Gonzalez. On point as usual! I've seen this band perform at numerous venues. They are always worth the price and the drive from home. But "come on"? That seating arrangement is ridiculous. Had I not turned my chair prior to the start of the show. I would have been limited to watching two of the six members of the band. Or gone home with a very stiff neck.

    authentic zappa but acoustics sucked

    by Nine6Teen on 2/10/20Neptune Theatre - Seattle

the drum and bass drowned out the more flavorful horns, keyboards. Despite the incredible arrangements, the dynamics were all the same ,,, loud and rock. too bad, because the musical talent was stupendous.

Why it take so long to discover the music of Zappa?!

by Ron Baker on 2/9/20The Egyptian Theatre - Boise

I say this because it goes beyond his dad. Dweezle Zappa left a lasting impression on me for his talent holding a guitar in his hands. His band played with precision, fun and most importantly truly being in sync. I was amazed by not only the recreation of the album HOT RATS, but the sheer joy these musicians showed playing these songs together. From the thundering drums to the beautifully played assortment of saxophones, this band was nothing short of a pleasure to experience in Boise. I would stand in line for another ticket to seem them play again. A must see group. Cheers to making this Boise fan of music a convert of Frank Zappa's music and an appreciator of this group. Grateful. Hope to catch you again in my lifetime.

    GREAT SHOW venue not so

by Larry on 2/9/20Neptune Theatre - Seattle

As usual, Dweezil did not disappoint!! Would be a 5 star if I it was just for his show. They could however, find a better venue for the show. More seating would be nice, it was good to see an area marked off for people who required seating and was not upstairs. Consider the Admiral Theater in Bremerton as well as a Seattle show.

    Dweezle Rocks

by Heisenberg on 2/9/20Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Dweezle's a great performer, and his ensemble is very impressive. Scheila Gonzales is an incredible musician in her own right. Her saxaphone is impeccable, and she also plays the flute, keyboard, clarinet, and guitar. Gonzalez won a 2009 Best Rock Instrumental Performance Grammy Award for the group's recording of "Peaches en Regalia". This tour celebrates the 50th anniversary of Frank Zappa's album Hot Rats. According to Dweezle's website, the album was dedicated to him by his dad in 1969. The show lasted well over 2 hours, and was a great blend of Zappa's hits in addition to the Hot Rats work. Some had never been played live. Go see Dweezle honor his Dad's legacy and you won't regret it.

    Zappa concert

by Norwester on 2/9/20Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Dweezil Zappa and his band put on a tremendous show! The crowd were obviously fans of his Dad and appreciated every rendition of his fathers work! The smaller venue gave a nice vibe to the event. The lighting was effective in enhancing the music with the exception of the bright white lights shined into the eyes of the crowd every so often!?! Overall a very memorable event that will mesh nicely with past concerts I have attended.
