About

Dweezil Zappa was born on September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, the son of the iconic musician Frank Zappa. Over the past three decades, Dweezil has carved out an eclectic and illustrious career that spans music, television, film, and entrepreneurship.

A Grammy-winning guitarist, Dweezil has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 2000 concerts performed worldwide. Known for his masterful performances and deep connection to his father's music, he's returning to concert stages in 2024 for the first time since the 2020 Hot Ratz Live! Tour, continuing to guide fans through the thrilling and sophisticated world of his father's music.

His virtuosity on the guitar is matched only by his prolific compositional skills, which have generated numerous original works spanning multiple albums including "Confessions of Deprived Youth" (1991) and "Via Zammata" (2015). Notably, his compositions have even been performed by a 100-piece orchestra in Holland, showcasing his versatility and command of orchestral arrangements. His music effortlessly traverses genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of rock, fusion, and experimental sounds, all while maintaining a signature style that is unmistakably his own. In addition to his solo work, Dweezil has collaborated with an impressively varied roster of artists, including Edward Van Halen, Deep Purple, Lisa Loeb, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai, among others.

In 2020, Dweezil further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the industry by completing construction on "Hikari," a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. As a sought-after audio mix engineer, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple's legendary album "Machine Head" in 2024, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education. He frequently shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching guitar, both through his own music camp, "Dweezilla," and online lessons. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with a diverse array of musicians all while honoring the legacy of his father, Frank Zappa.

In all his endeavors, Dweezil remains committed to upholding integrity and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity. As he continues to innovate and inspire, Dweezil Zappa stands as a true luminary in the world of music and beyond.

    Dweezil-tastic

by Mr. Qwerty on 10/1/19Bella Concert Hall - Mount Royal University - Calgary

Seeing Dweezil Zappa is an opportunity that comes around far too infrequently. He and his band are serious musicians playing the highly complex arrangements of Frank Zappa, and killin’ it while doing so. Please come back to Calgary soon!!

    Best band on the planet

by Sludge on 9/24/19LONDON MUSIC HALL - London

Scheila Gonzalez is the most talented musician I have ever seen perform live. The London Music Hall was a decent venue, but London Ontario is a dump of a town.

    Hot Rats !

by Altuna on 9/23/19Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Dweezil and Band did entire Hot Rats L.P. Arrangments were perfect and the band was spot on. After that covered an array of mostly 70's stuff including Flo and Eddie material done flawlessly !! Dont remember the multi- instumentalist's name(keys, guitar, pecussion , drums) but he did Franks vocals total justice...Dweezils extended solos were as if he was channelling his fathers spirit !!! Will see him if he comes around her again for sure !

Third Time for Dweezil Zappa at the Bijou!

by JB on 9/20/19Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

This was the third time we enjoyed an evening with Dweezil Zappa and his lineup of fellow stellar musicians. The Zappa experience is not to be missed! We saw his illustrious father Frank at the Knoxville Coliseum in the early 70s when an eighteen-year-old Steve Vai was playing guitar with the band and we have been fans ever since. Dweezil's meticulous curation of Frank's material is gratifying, thrilling, and amazing - I hope we never miss any of his appearances here! Bonus: Andy Wood and Ben Eller joining Dweezil's band for an impromptu "buddy-breathing guitar plug riff-off" was such a fabulous surprise! The Bijou has been the site of many wonderful hours of entertainment from an array of jaw-dropping musicians including Buckethead, Steve Vai, and Les Claypool to Tod Rundgren, Joe Jackson, and Adrian Belew - no wonder it's our favorite venue. Keep booking these great artists and we will be there! P.S.Could you add Mike Keneally to your list of awesome musicians booked at the Bijou? Not to mention The Aristocrats, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Joe Satriani...well, you know...I can dream, can't I?

    Dweezil plays Dad: Hot Rats

by 4-String Thing on 9/20/19Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

As far as the show, it was terrific! If you know this band, you are never disappointed. I wanted to extend a thanks to the crew working the front door. My brother has two prosthetic legs, and that night they were really hurting him. We asked the door guy if he could just come in and sit down until the house opened (about 10 minutes.) Without hesitation he let him in, and when I got in, he was already in his seat. Thanks guys! You made a great show that much more enjoyable!!
